Toytec Shackles are squeaking like crazy!! - '08 CM

About a month ago I had Toytec Shackles installed on the top setting. They ride great. However, after about a week they started creaking/squeaking like crazy. The sound is so awful that I can't ride with the windows down, lol. I took the truck back to the shop and they tried repacking them with grease. Again, they were quiet for a week (to the day) and then started to squeak. The truck went back a third time and they tried packing them with marine grade grease, and again, after a week (to the day) they started squeaking again. I am wondering if perhaps I need new bushings (they used the old factory bushings, or does anyone know if an alternative type of bushing is available? It is not the bed bolt as I discovered here in my search. I have already investigated that as a possibility.

you Sure it’s not rubbing the bolt. Mine didNt appear so the naked eye bug was in fact rubbing.

 

Yes, I'm positive. Trust me, I wish that was the problem!! I'm also on the top setting which places is far enough away from that bolt. Thank you though

This is what I ordered recently. It should be the bushings that toytec uses.

 

I sent them an email and this is the response I got:

"Hello and good morning Doug!

I do apologize for the inconvenience of the squeaky upper frame bushing! One thing I would personally recommend doing would be to insure that they are doing their final torque while the weight of the vehicle is on the ground, not in the air on their lift. That is one very common overlooked "install error" I have seen a lot of people do... Having the vehicle in the air and torqued down tight will cause the bushing to then have a "binding" effect once the vehicle is lowered back down to resting/ final ride height and then will cause the bushings start to squeak very bad/ loud.

The only bushing I would personally recommend replacing them with would be Toyota OEM bushing. I have yet to see a bushing stand up/ be comparable to the OE bushings."

Try backing the nut off. They might have tightened them too much and it’s binding on the bushing. With that being said, the toytecs don’t like the oem leaf bushing. The teeth in it dig into the shackle and can shorten its life and albeit limit the suspension. Replacing them with polys will make a world of difference.

 

I’m assuming they mean the top bushing. They sell poly bushings with their shackles so I can’t see how they would say they are junk. Even so, they would literally take 10 mins to replace if need be.

 

We tried that too. They put the truck down and tightened them to specs. They work well for exactly a week, and then the sounds comes back. I might have to try those poly's and see if they help. Thanks!

They made a noticeable improvement in the way the rear suspension feels. Makes it feel much more compliant and transition into and out of bumps is a lot smoother.

 

There must be a typo in that email since the OEM bushings suck and ToyTec knows that too. That's why ToyTec offers the poly bushings! Quite frankly no make of shackles will fair well with the pos OEM bushings. It's always best to upgrade to poly bushings whether you are adding aftermarket shackles or keeping the OEM shackles to help mitigate bed bounce. I ran with ToyTec shackles on my 07 for almost 4 years with zero issues using their Energy Suspension poly bushings.

No typo ... straight up copy and paste. David, who replied here on this thread is the same David I've been emailing with, and who sent me that email (unless there is more then one David at Toytec). I haven't been on in a while and am thrilled he replied here. I'll call tomorrow and hopefully I can get some direction on this. I love the way they ride, just can't stand the squeak and creak, lol.

Did you end up fixing the squeak? What was the ultimate solution? I just installed Toytec shackes and they are squeaking like mad too. Verified they aren't hitting that bolt up top.

 

Was there grease applied on poly bushings during installation?

 

Yup! I used the grease that came with the bushings.

 

Was final torque done at static height or at full droop?

 

Static height, sitting on the ground.

 

I may loosen them, jump on the bumper and re-torque to see if they need to settle or something.
