Dyno testing supercharged tundra 2017 VS 2018 not the same tune!

Today I had my tundra dyno tested. The results came in about what I expected at a normal elevation. What was interesting was also this week (on Monday) another tundra just supercharged last week was tested on the same dyno. The owner asked me why I was back - I had no clue what he was talking about, apparently the other truck was also white platinum crewmax w/ black wheels. Not to often you get an apples to apples 2017 vs 2018 tundra non flex fuels. Only difference was the 2018 had the new tune that was just released (from what the owner of the race shop told me) from Magnuson. Same tech same process same dyno different results! 2018 tundra results were disappointing as his max horsepower on all 5 pulls was 397. Maybe the tune from Magnuson isn’t dialed in yet for the 18...as his power was behind mine by almost 8% at the wheels compared to the 428 pull I got.

What elevation was this test performed at? Also, were both trucks completely stock, other than the SC?

At sea level, those numbers are on the lower side.

 

Not really an apples to apples comparison. Too many environmental factors here too. Like ambient temp, humidity, not to mention fuel differences.

 

I figured a SC would get around 475hp or better at the wheels. (550 less 10 to 15%).

 

The OP stated that the 2018 that was previously tested, put out under 400 at the wheels. Even with environmental factors, I would be questioning the Testing facility, or giving Magnuson a call about those results (assuming a stock truck, minus the SC).

 

Tire slip and/or safety system intrusion with subsequent throttle valve modulation.

 

Also are both trucks the same size tires and exhaust?

 

Both trucks Stock leveled tundra platinums sc even same color with factory wheels and tires. The weather was about 3 degrees different that week sunny 73-75. Elevation is about 600 feet asl. Owner of the shop did the tests on both trucks. Note this was also done on a dyno jet not a mustang so it’s a fact the values will be lower on the test. Never the less it’s pretty interesting!

 

Can anyone point me to threads with dyno results on Magnuson sc Tundra’s? I found a lot of “will post results” but cannot actually find any posted....

 

This might be helpful for anyone thinking about supercharging before increasing tire size and adding exhaust mods.

 

You run a Magnuson TVS 1900, correct?

 

Supercharger makes 550HP and 550 ft lbs of torque at the crank. With a 21% driveline loss for our trucks, it should be 434 hp @ the wheels which is around what you are getting.

I feels bad for the 2018 guy. He should get in touch with Magnusson.
