My first truck... Yeah, I'd say that yours is totalled. My 2¢, take it to reputable body shop and make sure you see what the total value to fix would be. My SR5 trdOR '14 wrecked in '16 with low milage was paid out at 38k. Told me it would be 32ish to fix. Definitely strip your aftermarket goodies off it they're not trashed. If they are, then leave them and get paid out by insurance.

Now I own another Tundra. NHTSA can say what they want, but I felt pretty safe regardless of the trucks "rating". Tundra will eventually redesign the truck to get 5 stars on the underwater slalom hood crash test.

Glad you're okay, which is the biggest deal. Hope you can get the new tundra of your dreams as I did.

I didn't get a full report (OH-1) in Ohio for mine, but different factors determine what forms/level of report a crash would need (without going into it, I'm sure jurisdictions/states/etc. are all slightly different).

The key factor to me would be to minimally get a call or run number from the police. Report it to your insurance company and remember that YOU pay your insurance company. I've seen and heard horror stories about insurance companies making people run around and get reports/documents/etc. It's a no injury crash, should be their bread and butter.

Sorry about your accident but glad everyone is ok. Hopefully you can get the police report. Did you get the other drivers information?

I had a friend who had their family involved in major accident in the Laredo, TX. The police never filed a report either. The insurance company won’t finish the claim without a report of the accident. Worst part is the other driver was at fault and the police won’t give them the name or information of the other driver. Definitely not legal but sometimes people are paid off.

Thankfully everyone is ok. Sucks though. My last accident was in 2002, t-boned into a building. I wanted it fixed but the frame was bent every which way so there was no way. My suggestion, document every mod/upgrade that is damaged or can't be moved to a new vehicle. Pictures, receipts. Insurance companies work to give you the least they can; they are never on your side no matter what they say in the commercials. I had a Snugtop (that was damaged), new battery, new tires, new shocks and I wasn't going to walk away from all the money I had spent the previous month. They were dicking around with "we're not sure she's insured..." and "this isn't covered" and "they say it's your fault" even though I had a witness on the police report that stated she ran the red. I hope it all goes well but dealing with insurance companies is like getting into an accident all over again.

Might be looking at getting a Tacoma or forerunner maybe a tundra if I get a deal. I just paid it off dont want to have to start halfway again. But been looking and I might be able to get a 2016 Tundra, it'll depend on the insurance company. Geico has been good to me for years, so hopefully the same continues.

After any accident in Texas, you will get a form to complete to tell your version of events regarding the accident. This is SOP. I believe this form is by and for the insurance companies to hassle out who's going to pay for this fiasco

Receiving this form to complete does not mean that the police did not also file a report after taking statements from the drivers. My experience has been that "peace officers" in Texas will even file reports on accidents on private, but publicly used, property. I've had them file a report on an accident I had in a Walmart parking lot.

Edit: I've seen a Tundra with damage similar to yours, and it was NOT totaled, but I don't know if the airbags deployed.

I talked to the cop, gave my License and insurance and that was it. After the vehicles were gone and mess cleaned up they left. Didn't ask what happened, what led up to the accident. That's why I was kind of curious usually they ask. I gave the story to the insurance company already via phone and a recorder. I'll call tomorrow and see what's up and of they did make a report.

The truck started right up after and no fluids were leaking. Majority of the damage was the plastic and you could see in the pictures it was everywhere. I'm going tomorrow to pull out a few things. Got to put a broke radio in there so I can get me Tesla unitnout and the sound system, and a few other totaling around $1500 or so, hoping my air compressor is good.

Anyone from Texas know if the Insurance companies that declare a vehicle a total loss having to pay the Sales tax, registration and title fees when purchasing another vehicle. Be doing research and came a across this, apparently they almost never mention this, I'm going to ask tomorrow when I see the adjuster.

Talked to the Adjuster, they have valued my vehicle around 28500. Which is pretty good considering I paid 36000 almost 5 years ago. They are sending someone else out there to make sure they got all the accessories that I placed on my insurance 6 months ago.

In my experience when a vehicle is totaled out, the insurance company is required to reimburse you for the taxes and registration fees you paid to register the vehicle for the current year. In scenarios where the vehicle is bought back from the insurance company, they are not required to reimburse the fees.

My guess is that you will get 6.25% on the $28.5k and thats it.

Suppose to drop the kids off, then go PT. People down here in Killeen drive the same way wet or dry roads it doesnt matter. The main intersection of Fort Hood St and Veterans Memorial is horrible almost always an accident when it rains.

Here are some more photos in daylight hours. The adjuster says I may be getting 28500 for the Tundra. She is having someone else looked at today ro ensure I'm getting the right price, hopefully a little more. The police are finishing the report today as they said it yesterday.

Not pretty at all. Lots of damage to several key areas. Yeah I don't see them fixing that. $28.5K is good. Even better if they are able to up it a bit more!

Ended up getting $30300, it was sad to see old blue at the tow yard in that condition. I paid a total of 40500 in California, so not to bad after 5 years. I got a 2016 Tundra Limited Crewmax, there is so much room inside this thing.

Looking at this truck and the damage on the old one I'm suprise how little damage I received compared to the forerunner. Guessing someone was watching over us that day.

Congrats on new truck. Just did a similar move even to the same color. Total loss double cab to crew max... How did you get the price up. I tried with mine and they held firm/didnt move at all.

Did you pull any of your aftermarket parts off?

Geico has been awesome throughout the entire process, got a rental reserved within 30 minutes after calling them. I just asked them about what the breakdown was, but she did have someone else look at it just to be sure I was getting a fair price. My estimate for repair was $23940. They also completed my payout for the truck and car seats on Wednesday. I took off my ARB air compressor, ditch lights, brake controller which I'll be selling soon, Afe intake, and few others
