Diff drop and carrier bearing drop.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is it exactly I need if I’m doing the 1.5” rear shackle?? Is the cb drop a must do?

 

I’d say yes and the guys at Ekstrom Design (Coachbuilder) can help confirm. I have one of their drops on my truck when I installed their 2” shackles

 

Same. I think it was a 3/4” spacer so if he is going with something that gives him an inch and a half of lift he might need a 1 inch spacer?

 

Yep, or close to it. My spacers are 1.25”

 

OK I just went out and checked. I have the +2 coachbuilder shackles and it came with 3/4” spacers for the carrier bearing.

 

Maybe mine are different because of my lift

 

He probably custom sized them according to any other factors about your lift.

 

I am pretty sure he did. He asked what all I have on there first. Either way rides perfectly

 

So, would a rear 1" shackle lift need a Carrier Bearing Drop kit spacer?

 

Does anyone know the bolt size and thread size for the carrier bearing? I believe the bolt is a 14mm, not sure about the thread though.

 

The head is 14mm. Bolt diameter should be 10mm, but I’m not positive on thread pitch. Likely 1.25. How thick of a spacer are you planning to install? I ask because the stock bolts are pretty long…. I just spaced my CB down 3/4” and the OEM bolts are plenty long. I’m pretty sure you could do up to an inch thick space with them…. I put a dab of red Loctite on the threads when reassembling.

 

I’d swing into any decent hardware store and pick up some 1/2” plate washers. The ones I used are about 1.75” steel squares and 1/4” thick. 1/2” hole in the middle. I stacked three and put them between the carrier bearing housing and the crossmember that it bolts to.
Use a jack or jack stand to loosely support the driveline and this will be easier than any other kid you’ve ever done.

i have a 2007 with about 260k miles on it.

Roughly 2 years ago i replaced the driveshaft which was totally shot and did the OME lift at the same time. Ended up with about ~2-3in in of lift. Along with the diff drop i added spacer to the carrier bearing (about 1in but i will get under the truck and measure tomorrow). For the past few months i've been hearing a ding when i get going and few days ago found that the 2 yo carrier bearing is now shot, see the picture.

Wondering if anyone has experienced this. The inner race is offset in the housing by about ~0.25in down.

I see some folks here are running without the spacer at all, others are dialing it in by angle? Any recommendation? Do i need to add another 0.25in to my spacer to get this aligned properly?

 

All tundras and tacomas come with a 1 degree rear shim when you lift you will need to increase that shim angel to prevent vibration . I have already chased that rabbit . I increased from the 1degree to a 2 1/2 degree and vibration is gone . That was on a Tacoma but the tundra has one I just have not leveled mine yet to a 1.75 in the front only so I’m not sure that small level will cause vibration . Hope this helps
