The Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) sensor is behind the solid logo. If you were to install a video camera there it would interfere with TSS.

Take a look at the link below. It’s a license plate frame camera. That might make things a little simpler.

Anyone around the Houston area install the FRAC recently and willing to help a fellow enthusiast out? I’m betting the install will be 2-3x faster with someone who has done it before rather than going solo. I’m in the greater heights area near 610 & Shepherd. Beers on me!

My front camera quit working recently. So, 1 of 3 things came to mind as being the problem. 1. HU 2. Frac harness 3. Camera.
HU still functioned in all other aspects so crossed that off
I've got a lot of confidence in the quality of Lou's work, cross that off.
    Camera, meh,,,, most likely suspect.
Replaced camera and sure enough fixed the problem.
Thanks for a great product Lou!

Trying to figure out what camera I want for the front, I have a pro grill. This one seems to be popular: https://www.amazon.com/NATIKA-Backup-Camera-Waterproof-Reverse/dp/B07H852D49?crid=B49EOE2YDAXS

I'm curious if anyone has been able to see the bumper corners with any of these cameras yet? If I park in an angled spot I have no idea where the front corner is if there is a wall or something there. I suppose just seeing the middle of the bumper might get you close enough.

This camera apparently sucks. I bought one and gave it to my installer and it lasted 10 minutes. They opened it to try to see what was wrong but it just would no longer function.

They donated a much higher quality one from their inventory at no charge.

Now we just have to figure out why the Sirius XM portion of the head unit has disappeared.

Interesting. I just installed this Nakita two weeks ago and have had no problems. Maybe you got a bad one?

I mentioned in my post that after the install, XM radio disappeared from my screen. The place that did the install doubled checked the install, spoke with Lou, and it would appear that the harness is at fault. Lou is prepping another one to ship out for the installer to replace (no additional charge to me, they were very cool about it).

I did have the installer rearrange some of the factory switches, so that the camera switch was easier to see/reach.

I 3m double side tape two of my cameras on two different Tundra’s with no issues. Both have metal winch bumpers though

Very good to know. I used 3M adhesive tie-wrap anchors behind the grill to secure my camera wiring and it seems to have lasted as well. Plastic surface with a little cleaning prep.

I installed this Nakita camera with a metal bracket on my steel bumper. I worked well for a few months. It stopped working last week after I sprayed the grille to wash the dried bugs. I think protection from the elements is a must. I will relocate my next cAmea somehow higher and behind the grille. Also, I will see a way to seal it with some kind of tape. I don't think any of these cheap cameras will last long though.

The Natika is advertised to have an IP69K rating. That's the top of the line rating for dust and moisture "Ingress Protection". Either they're lying about the rating (very possible) or the quality control is not what it should be. I have had my IP67 rated camera (from iNewcow) installed since I first designed the FRAC harness and have had no problems with it. Wow... that was 2 1/2 years ago!

Looking at the Natika user reviews on Amazon, it looks like there has been a rash of poor one-star reviews in the last few months, yet last year there were almost universal 5-star comments... something seems to have changed for the worst. At least it has a 2-year warranty!

Tex, what model iNewcow do you have? I'd like to only have to do this once and not replace cameras all the time :).

I have the embedded logo camera from them. Its linked below in the "products Discussed" window. Obviously this fits in the grill logo. So if you have a PRO grill or the TSS, this camera won't work for you. There may be other versions of the iNewCow cams on Amazon. Just make sure it's designed for front-end installations. Some cams are rear view only and will give a mirror image in the display.

Putting a front cam in. Not a frac. Just running one to my Tesla unit.

Where can I grab 12 volts under the hood easily? Only want it hot when in accsy or running position. Heading to the store to get an inline fuse.

Edit: Nevermind. Found this. Take a fuse out, put this in. Out fuse back in. You have hot wire to use.

What is the optimal camera height for our trucks? On my 2016 I had this camera mounted on a pro grill below the Toyota and it was decent.

My 2019 pro grill shows up today and want to build a bracket to hide the camera but still have a great view of the front bumper. Thanks!

The higher the better, but you need the bumper in the frame to judge distance.

Below is me parking a little over a foot away from a coworker and 9 or so inches from my side of the yellow line:

    20181119_064612.jpg
You can see from the camera, it looks like I'm right up on the yellow line, but I'm not. The bottom of the camera image is the grill showing up and NOT the bumper (I would have to move the camera out of the front plane of the grill to avoid this).

    20181119_064425.jpg
Below is the mount location on an unlifted 2017:
    20181118_154812.jpg
Summary: I should have gone higher and looking downward than trying to make it look pretty.

Can this harness be configured to work with different HU's? I'd love to get one and install, but I also know that some day I will want to install an aftermarket HU with wireless car play.

    Thanks.

As long as the Aftermarket HU is installed with plug and play harnesses, the FRAC Harness will work with it.

The new hu will have to have to be capable of displaying a camera as well.

So my camera won’t work with the 2019 pro grill. Thinking I’m going to have to try a flat base adjustable mount which means I’ll have to pull the entire damn dash apart again to change the cord- they don’t look compatible

What are your before and after camera brands? You might be able to utilize the RCA and Power already running to the HU with your new camera.

That looks like a plug that is common on most camera brands. You might try plugging it into your new camera and see if it works.
