Official Tundra Wheel and Tire Setups - Pics and Info

I seen some stuff about 3 and 1 I have a 2 wheel not 4x4 looking to raise it a little and put some bigger more aggressive tires on.. Would that work for me or should I get a 3 inch lift? Thanks.

Ok, new to the forum, lots of great info. I recently bought my first Tundra, a 2010 SR5 Crewmax 4x4. I am doing a 2.4" level lift and will then put on new tires and wheels. I am staying with the stock 275-65R18's but was wondering what if anything will be needed to be done with the wheel offset? From what I gather the stock rims are a +60. Will the 2.4" lift bring the hubs under the truck enough to warrant changing the offset or will the +60 be ok yet. Reason I ask is that I can get a real good deal on some new 2014 TRO take-offs from the local dealer, which are still the +60 offset. They had a custom TRO set up there with a 3-2 lift and still had the stock rime on it that did not appear that the rims sat in under the fenders too far. I figured that the 2.4" lift should be even less of an affect then the 3"? Any thought greatly appreciated.

 

Super, thanks for the info. If anything bigger at all I would just go to the 70 series vs the stock 65 for a little more height. That tire is listed at 33" so I don't think there would be any trimming of inner fender stuff involved.

 

Im looking to replace my stock tires with some 33's and retain the stock 16in. rims. I have a 3" spacer lift on the front and a 1" block suspension lift in the rear. Has anybody put on the 285/75 R16 tires who has the same amount of lift and backspacing that I do? If I can't quite run those i'll (disappointingly) go with the 265/75 R16 which gives me an extra inch of tire. Thanks for the help.

 

I recently installed the 2.4" Pro Comp Level Lift and oh ya, lifted it for sure. Does need the alignment though, the wheels need to be stood straight up again. Resembles a Ford right now if you know what I mean. Will have to wait until the alignment is done but the way it sits right now I will have to put in the 1" rear blocks. Now for the tire size. If I choose to stay with 18" TRD wheels (+60 offset), does anyone know if a 285 tire will fit in wither a 65 or 70? If not I will most likely go with the 275/70R18.

 

I just put Discoverer S/T Maxx 285/70r/17 on my 2006 tundra, 3 inch lift. Guys at the shop said they would fit no problem. Get home and find out the noise I was hearing, which I thought was just new tire noise, was actually them rubbing on the plate just above the front suspension coils. Is there anything I can do to fix the problem? Or do I need to size down?

 

I have a 2005 Tundra SR5 2WD, currently have stock rims with 265/65 tires.
I'm thinking about adding a 2-3" leveling kit. What's the max tire size I can have without rubbing and changing rim size with a 2 and a 3? Also, I want my tires to have a wider stance just a little where it's noticeable but not too crazy.

Looking for new wheel's for my 2014 with the TRD Big Brake Kit with 20" rims. I understand that the TRD kit limits my choices.

Thanks for your comments. I ended up trying several different things but finally settled on new wheels and tires and a 2.5 inch leveling kit. We installed Matte Black XD 20" Monster Wheels with a +35 offset and 285/65/20 BFG All-Terrains. I am trying to decide if I should remove the XD caps, but when I take the back ones off, it is all rusty looking in there. Any input would be appreciated. Check out the pics below...

QUESTION: will BFG 305/65/17 fit on a STOCK 2010 RockWarrior wheel?

The stock tire is a BFG 285/70/17

The Evans Tire shop near me says the BFG 305/65/17 will work.

Two Discount Tire shops nearby say this tire will NOT work.

Okaaay... so I guess I need to become the expert? To the experts out there, who is correct? Is Discount Tires being overly cautious, honest? Is Evans Tires just trying to get my business?
They said they would get the tires in and test fit. No obligation. But they were certain the 305/65/17's will fit the wheel. I'm not concerned about rubbing.

 

The difference in the two tires circumference is almost nothing. The 305s are a hair smaller in circumference, but a wider tire. Less than an inch wider. You are looking at about 12 inches wide. They will most likely work, but may rub the upper control arm. Yes discount tire is usually conservative though. The tires will definitely fit the wheel, its just a matter of where the rub. These tires aren't even 33s, more like 32.5.

 

If they rub, you can always do like csuviper and add spacers.

 

OK just got a call from Discount Tires HQ... I was told the manufacture of the BFG 305/65/17 says these tires are designed to fit a wheel width of 8.5" - 11". The 2010 RockWarrior wheel with is 8". Hence Discount says NO, they won't fit.

They also agree, many people install them anyway BUT they may be more prone to problems, and IF these folks have problems, BFG will not stand by their warranty. But I'm just going by what the consumer says and I haven't found anyone complaining yet (but that doesn't mean there have not been problems). Evans Tires said they'll stand by their warranty (so I don't deal with BFG at all).

Ok so now I'm looking into 315/17/70's which I hear will fit (don't know what Discount or BFG says). But after looking at some pics, I think this tire look a little too big for my taste... looks a bit odd to me... maybe better suited on a RW that is lifted (which I don't plan on doing).

I'm new to this forum also. What is the biggest tire I can put under my truck without rubbing or major trimming? It's a '14 Crewmax. Just had the leveling kit put on by the dealer, 2.5" I believe, and my poor little tires look sad. I am looking at wheels that have a -12 offset and 5" backspacing. Would a 305/55/20 fit? Thanks

 

Did you have to cut anything or modify anything?

 

They will fit without rubbing the control arms, but you may have to use a heat gun and massage the plastic wheel wells to get rid of rubbing. Any more than the -12, you may have to chop the body mounts. Do you have fender flares? They will be sticking out pretty good with that offset. Probably a couple inches.

 

Hmm... No I don't have flares. What would you guys recommend then as far as size goes? I'm ok with very little mods but don't want to get too crazy. 285/65/20??? Probably too tall though...

 

The tire size is perfect. Its the rim offset that you may or may not like. Without flares, a +18 or +20 is perfect. But... if ypu really like the rim and can't get it in that offset, its still going to look good. In my opinion a 33 inch tire is perfect. The 285 isnt going to look that great. lots of guys do bigger tires, 35's, and they look great, but you will just have to decide what you like. Here are pics of a guy with 305 55 20s on +10 offset rims. The difference between these and your +12s wont even be noticable so this will give you an idea.
