Yes, a physical switch for the 12v constant feeding the HU.

Well I had a hunch, I can’t explain why I tested this but my spider sense was tingling.

My FCAM for some reason still has 12V when the system is off and after the sleep function of 30s kicks in. I disconnected the power cable in the engine bay and my battery has been holding solid at 12.20v for over an hour.

I’ll check it again in the morning after taking readings (about to go drive) and compare. I expect .01 to .02 loss or volts due to constant 12V for memory (yellow wire)

Big issue now is, how does Dasaita fix this?

If anyone has a chance, I’d like to see if your FCAM power lead still has 12V after the system supposedly is full off

It was my understanding that the front camera gets power through the head unit from the canbus. What did you have to disconnect in the engine bay?

EDIT: I guess you are trying to find out if the FCAM power lead (from head unit) is still supplying 12v even after it is off.

I just updated my wife's CX-9 Android firmware from 8.0 to 9.0. It was very easy:
    • Load IMG file to root of SD Card
    • Load in Map SD Card Slot
    • HU will prompt for update but you will Cancel
    • Instead go to System Settings and Update through there.
This was the video they sent me on instructions and it worked like a charm. Just FYI if you ever decide. PS i also updated my wife's HU with a new MCU update as well.

    Cheers

    Tin

I have not installed the front camera so I cannot test this out but the way you explained, it sounds like you have two power sources running ur fcam. Power at the HU and power at the battery, correct? I don’t think you will need to hook up both power sources, only need the power sources at the HU. If you connect it to the battery, then the fcam is constantly on. I think u should be fine now that u disconnected the power at the battery

Correct, I was testing to see what was still on when the system was completely power off, doors shut, car “asleep”

My F Cam gets its power directly from the head unit via the F Cam yellow power wire. Even after everything had gone to sleep and shut down I was still getting 12 V for no reason

I disconnected the power in the engine bay because that is where I put the end of the power cable from the head unit, it’s not powered via my battery.

Simply put I unplugged the power at the camera. This way when I know the truck will be used consistently, I can plug it back in until dasaita sends me a fix (new harness?)

Edit: Do you guys think me wiring the FCAM power wire into the red ACC wire would still allow the FCAM to work when the car is on, but kill voltage when its off? I dont know if the FCAM app is power sensing? If it doesn't detect power to the yellow FCAM wire, will it not work?

Interesting, so you had to supply power to the FCAM yellow power wire from the engine bay? I’m probably a little confused because I haven’t installed a front camera yet. The actual head unit install didn’t entail any work in the engine bay for me. My cam should be here this week and I’ll try to install it this weekend.

The RCA cable and the power cable are one. So I had to run the RCA out to the engine bay with the power cable to the camera.

It connects to the FCAM yellow power wire behind the head unit

Edit: Checked voltage this morning and while not as bad, still went from 12.39V to 12.26V - so I am probably just going to cut the constant 12V from the harness and wire it into the ACC line - I will lose my Android clock each time (thankfully Audio settings are saved to the memory) but since I use CarPlay - clock is pulled from my phone.

Dasaita did admit that the FCAM harness wire should not be supplying a constant 12V wire - they might be sending me a new harness as this might be defective.

And as if I am not having enough upgrade issues, just had to replace my pass side HID bulb again! First one was wrong temp (4300K instead of 6500K) - second one died within 3 days (won't ignite) so I just put a third bulb in.

Looks great! You’re going to love it! Let us know if you happen to find any hidden gems.

Also curious, does the truck still beep when you lock it? Mine does, but some have reported that theirs stopped after install.

So I tested the fcam wire today and got 4V when HU is completely shut down and 12V when HU is on or on sleep mode. I’m not sure if 4V will cause any issue later on when I install the front camera. I’m assuming you got 12v regardless if the HU is on or off?

@VTYOTA can you test the fcam power wire to see what voltage you get when HU is off?

I don’t think the FCAM app is power sensing like the reverse camera, so I think you should try splicing the front cam power wire into the red acc wire.

Yep, 12V even after 30 min

I’ll try splicing into the red ACC wire. I may have to do the same with the main power wire as well

Yeah mine still beeps with no issues. My remote start works fine and beeps as well. And just for everyone else ... I can confirm that the HU works with the FRAC harness too.

So, I did a rushed install last night.

Initially had an airbag light, but that's since disappeared, so I think were good there.

However, none of my steering controls work. There are a couple plugs from the HU that don't connect to the trucks harness, is that typical or am I missing something?

Also have a front cam I'll likely be installing this weekend or next.

Most importantly, any apps I need to download that I cant live without?

OK so to make the steering wheels controls work you have to go in to

    Settings > Car > Factory Settings (Password is 126) > Canbus > Select Type 08 Toyota Camry_Rav4 > Apply > Exit
FYI after you do this your truck my not beep with locking/unlocking. Thats what mine did.

But yes there are a few things that do not connect to the HU.

i believe 2-3 plugs will not be used from the canbus harness. The harness is universal for most Toyota vehicles so not all plugs will be used.

I downloaded Pulsar Music Player(free version) last night and is way better than the music app that came with the head unit. This is if you wanted to play music from a usb drive. Intuitive and minimalistic.

I figured out how to run a wire with a diode to the red acc wire to have the HU turn on with my remote start. If anyone has remote start and wants to do this, I can post some instructions. This solved the cold boot time for me.

Worked for me, and it seems as though my truck still beeps with lock and unlock, so I'd call that a win!
I would definitely be interested in this. I've got a remote start myself, but at least with the 9.0, the boot time really didn't seem all that bad.

Sooooo.....Where does the Mic plug in? I'm not sure I need it though, as I had a phone call today and the person on the other line said it just sounded like I was holding the phone a bit farther away from my face.
Does anybody know how to prevent the music from stopping when putting it in reverse? Or doing a full screen mirror from an Android phone to the stereo?

Mic plugs in on the rear of the deck. you'll see a small whole just to the bottom left of all the connectors for the HU

There is a setting to disable the music stoppage in reverse. Its under Car Settings ... I forget where it is ... it also allows for option of lower volume by db in reverse too. I'll check tomorrow for exact location of settings

So I will be installing my front camera hopefully this weekend, but I'm not exactly sure how to wire it all up. This is the diagram that is provided with the camera.
I assume that I don't need the trigger wire (B) since it will not be used as a back up camera? Then do I just connect the red wire to the head unit FCAM power and ground the black? I think it might be easier to just do an Add-A-Fuse in the engine bay, but I am not sure.

Howard ... you are correct, you dont need to tap into the reverse or else it will only come on when you are in reverse. you only need to connect the rca cable to the input female of HU and as far as power. negative can be a positap into the negative of the canbus and positive you can posi tap into any power source for acc or even the canbus positive 12v source.

i would just get two positaps and tap into the canbus.

Shouldn't have read this thread. Really tempted to see if I can get this working in my first gen now, even though I have absolutely no reason to do so.
