i have state farm. they are garbage. my truck sat at body shop for three weeks untouched because insurance was saying that what the body shop wanted to fix was unnecessary. truck should be ready by next friday. but the insurance is holding some of the payment because they dont feel like it may need to be buffed after paint. which means my truck will sit yet again until an adjuster comes back out to see if it needs to be done. so annoying.

I have State Farm as well, to me it kind of seems it depends more on the person that you're having to deal with. Actually, I called them today with a question and it was a great experience, but the individual that I deal with I've known since she was in high school.

I recently switched from Geico to Progressive. Progressive grandfathered in my time with Geico (who wasn't bad) with better coverage and $300 less per year.

Been with them about 4 years. Decent service through 2 accidents, one mine(16yo girl totaled my Tacoma) and one with my Fiance(streetbike 'didnt see her' and pulled out in front of her causing $14K to her Mazdaspeed3 that she had at the time. Both times they've held solid on our side and fixed shoddy body shop work on the Mazda, and when the other insurance company tried to deny their party was at fault when my Tacoma got totaled.
Only real complaint with them is that they bumped my policy by $60/mo..... supposedly due to changes on my credit report(there were none) and also just for moving across town. We currently live in a 'less safe area' even though previous was at an apartment complex where all vehicles were outside all the time and now we have a Townhouse with a 2 car Garage and everything. Didnt make sense to me but they couldnt reduce my rate back.

Edit: Also have 2 street bikes on a policy with them. Somehow they are about a 1/4 the price on the bikes as all the other companies I shopped around with. Our rate on them just dropped to only $73/mo for both bikes.

Allstate. I had two claims almost back to back (one for accident and another for clipping a Honda Civic and damaging its front side) and their service was excellent and even though I was at fault, they did not even raise my rate. I've been with them for about 9 years now.

AAA for decades. Liked them better when we could simply walk into the local office...now they are pretty much like every other company, but OK to deal with.

I've always had State Farm and (knock on wood) have never had any issues with them. I use them for everything (home/auto, etc...) Honestly I think it's all about your local insurance agent. I've had great agents who have gone above and beyond when I have needed them. If you're not happy w/ your agent then I would either check with a different agent or just shop around. No sense staying w/ an agent you don't like or a company for that matter, but I don't think there's a "dream insurance company". I'm sure people have horror stories with ALL of them.

well they have been giving me the run around. state farm finally came to an agreement on the repair with the body shop. but just to still be annoying they want to inspect truck after paint to see if it needs to be buffed. just so they can waste more time. however i should have my truck back early this coming week. i havent decided if i want to switch insurance. id like to bundle everything and apparently some insurance co such as farmers dont cover home insurance in LA.

I had Allstate for 10+ years, solid service but rates kept going up. They rated my '12 Taco almost the same as my '15 GX460? The GX cost 2+ times the Taco...I have everything from home, umbrella, and auto with them.

I moved to StateFarm about a year ago and my auto premium is about $300 less for 6 months (same 250000/500000/250000 with $500 deductible), Umbrella is 20% cheaper (same coverage) BUT my home is $600/year MORE. The reason I moved because State farm Home insurance is listed as "Tier 5" while Allstate is "Tier 3" (they might use different term here). That is enough for me to move. Service has been great so far.

We've been with State Farm for 30 or so years now. They paid off quickly when the kid ran into my house and did damage to the tune of about $17,000 (actually, he hit the truck I had at the time and shoved it about a foot and a half into the house) and paid well on a hail damage claim on my wife's car. No complaints with the price or the service.

I've had State Farm for 30+ years and they cover my cars, home, umbrella and life insurance. I've had claims for hail damage to the house and cars as well as a few accidents and windshields. In most cases, they did well and when they didn't, I just called my agent and asked him to intervene. I remember one situation where my GTO needed a new bumper cover, hood and paint due to a front end collision in a parking lot; crumple zone stuff. All was fine until I went to pick it up. The shop told me that State Farm would only replace one of the grill inserts since only one was broken and to replace the other was "cosmetics". It looked like crap. Called my agent and asked him if he wanted to lose me over $65? Of course it was replaced.

Nah, this is what I'm telling people when I reach a certain age...."old? I'm simply a little more seasoned" LOL

I've been with GEICO for a few years coming from State Farm. Much better experiences so far.

For the retired guys with USAA, do they still call you by rank and name? Whenever I call, it's always Sgt ...., but I wondered if it would stay like after retirement. I like it, the people are very friendly, some of the best customer service you can get IMO.

Depending on where you live your account may be outsourced to another insurance firm on their approved contractor/vendor list. And I don't think the subs will have all that info.
