05 tundra shifting issues

I have a 2005 Tundra DC V8. When i drive going up to 2nd or 3rd gear and let off the gas but not completely, the truck feels like its in between gears and eventually will rev up and then engage into a lower gear. Happens almost every time. 125k on truck, ive owned it for 4 months. Ive had the transmissions serviced by toyota and ive changed solenoids and valve body. No electrical codes. Disconnecting battery for half an hour fixed the problem for about a day. I dont want to spend more money on this truck but i dont want to sell it. Please help

 

What did Toyota say about this problem? They did some service why? And why still a problem?

 

Toyota said they checked with a computer and nothing came up and said road test found " a few hard shifts" so they said a start would be flushing the trans.

 

So they ‘flushed’ the engine? And the problem was till there and then they moved onto installing new solenoids and valve body? How many miles on your truck?

 

Mine did this. I had lost some transmission fluid from a leak. I did a flush and fill. Got about 3 quarts out and put 4 new ones in. Havent had a problem with it since. GL.

 

Where was your leak? And did you correct it?

 

After toyota i went to a transmission specialist because its closer. He noticed the valve body had wear so he repaired it with a shift kit and changed a "SL Solenoid" 125,000 miles. Last week i noticed a leak on the main plug so they fixed it. Same problem before and after

 

My leak was the extension housing seal. (Where transmission meets the driveshaft) I replaced the seal recently but I dont believe the leak is totally gone. It seems that I may actually have a leak coming from the yoke and not the seal. Turns out I can use some JB weld on the yoke to fix that leak. I will be doing this in the next couple weeks if I see the leak is definitely coming from there.

 

Check your fluid levels in flat ground with truck running. Hopefully it's just low

 

I'll add that mine was doing the hesitating in 1st gear and I never experienced it in 2nd or 3rd at all that I know of.

 

Disconnect the battery again overnight this time. Both cables. Touch them together for 30 seconds. Press your brakes for 30 seconds to fully drain system after disconnect. Let sit and report back.

Sounds like your original disconnect helped but the ‘shift 2-3 gear problem’ returned. Could be you need to adjust your pedal push/foot push on the throttle to the truck as its a newer vehicle to you.

Not much else to tell you as 2 set of experts have done your service and they do this for a living.

 

You cant check the fluid its a sealed transmission. Transmissions if full of fluid it had a leak and was refilled a week ago. Its only a problem when i start to let off the gas after accelerating its like the truck doesnt know that i want to stay at that speed

 

You can check it. It's more involved than just pulling a dipstick but doable in the driveway.

Id feel confident checking the fluid im just sure that its not low fluid because it was acting up even after just being refilled

 

I’ve got a shift flare from 4th to 5th when the trans is cold. From what I was told it should be fixed if I do a shift kit. Apparently this trans is known for worn accumulator piston seals according to my trans guy

 

Finally got a CEL today, shift solenoid E.

 

Do you know if the dealer checked the transmission ECM connector for corrosion? That is a known issue and can cause all sorts of varying issues and not necessarily the same issue all the time...

 

Solenoid didnt fix it. Needs rebuilt. Had nothing but problems with my toyotas. Buying a cummins

 

Anyone have a pic of this connector? I tried disconnecting a connector on the passenger side of the transmission few month back and the thing would not budge. Didn’t force it as nothing is broken. Wanted to grease it, but no go.

That link makes sense and is in line with my theory on many of our problems being electrical corrosion related and not mechanical. No pics available though.

 

That's cause the Solenoid may not be the problem...your tranny ECM connector, if corroded, can throw all manner of codes when things are malfunctioning, not because the are bad, but because the communication is $#@&(+ed....check it, it's not hard to do and a nearly free fix if the corrosion isn't terrible.

 

And as you quoted he seems to be "already there" on a different truck. While I understand frustration I never understand abject indifference to help.........that HE ASKED FOR.

I'm guessing it can't be rebuilt. The valve body in the transmission looses the snap ring race.

 

Cummins is fine. The problem is the dodge connected to it.
