Hi guys can someone help me out my truck is having trouble to start at cold mornings

My truck is having trouble to start when the engine gets cold but i starts and runs fine when it heats up

 

Coolant temp sensor?

 

I allready change the coolant temperature sensor and the temperature sensor basically both would it be timing?

 

A better description of the problem would help.

 

Weak battery?

 

Not much info given but first thing first scan the vehicle for trouble codes, battery and starter load test, clean throttle body check data on ECT when cold and hot check and clean MAF just a couple things that come to mind. Once I had a hard cold start on a 2000 Accord and it was a bad Bank 1 air fuel ratio sensor

 

Mine started doing long starts also. The computer was reading pump gas at 70% instead of 10%. Had it reflashed and it's good now.

 

ECU controls the entire starting process, including enriching fuel-air ratio for cold start based on ambient temp. You have great suggestions thus far...sensors provide the only info the ECU has to work with. Scan for codes.

 

I have replace the battery fuel pump coolant temperature scensors the starder is still good

 

I had an issue with cold starts earlier this year. I ran a couple treatments of Seafoam through it and started using mid grade fuel. I haven’t had any issues since. The issue could definitely be a sensor or maybe dirty injectors. What exactly is it doing?

It takes a long time to start when the engine gets cold or its cold outside it stutters for a long time but it dosent start. Ive changed the spark plugs the coils coolant temperature sensor the engine temper sensor fuel pump ..but when the truck heats up it runs and starts like nothing

 

I’m not the most mechanically inclined, but that sure sounds like it could be a fuel to air issue.

 

But what could it possibly be ive replaced every main component that the truck needs to start its just weird do you think it could be the timing ?

 

Try cleaning Throttle Body then disconnect battery touch both positive and negative terminals together for 20 seconds start the car but make sure all accessories are off including a/c let it idle for 20 min so it can relearn

 

Coolant temp sensor have been common on Toyota’s being bad it can give false readings to the computer and going into a rich condition I know u have changed it but I been a tech for over 30 years and installed plenty of defected new parts

 

Why so many 2nd and 3rd gens in here?

 

Try replacing the fuel pressure regulator they are great at causing an extended cold crank issue on your gen

 

@773_eddie why touch the cables together?

 

2nd and 3rd graders still have 1st grade knowledge.

 

Wen u disconnect the battery and touch both positive and negative cables together for about 15 seconds it clears and drains the powertrain control module you do that after any repairs so it can relearn

 

I always just d/c the negative and hold the brakes for 30 sec to drain it.
