The rear shocks are done. I only gained 1/4" in ride height which is surprising.

This long flex head wrench I bought made this job a breeze.

The only casualtie was my bump stop. Apparently it was hanging on by a thread. Guess I'll be buying those wheelers after all.

    Really? Why?

I'm undecided on AAL. I may just wait and get new leaf packs eventually. 17 years.. How much longer are they really usable? These are the questions that keep me up at night....

Same reason you ran into. Couldnt get the shocks tight. Had to cut out the old shocks with a sawzall. B
Unbolt the passenger side of the bed and raise it with 2 bricks to torque the shock down.
    20181124_124241.jpg

If you do go with an AAL get a progressive one. If you go leaf pack, keep is posted. I'm not aware of any available for our trucks. Plus I heard pairing shocks to custom packs can be a pain.

Its funny you say you gained 1/4” in rear ride height. I think mine rose 1/4”-1/2” and wasn’t expecting that.

I noted this when hooking up my trailer as the mount needed to be lifted higher than normal.

Someone said ‘shocks don’t add lift’, but I swear it did on mine. Don’t have the measurements to prove it, but it happened for sure.

Try epoxy on that bump stop.

    Pics of wrench?

Well now that I'm checking again it says to expect 0-3" of lift with these rear shocks. Doesn't make much sense.

As for the wrench, I ordered this. The swivel head made the difference. I just held the shock with a pair of vice grips as @Darkness suggested.

You sure it says it'll add 0-3 and not good for 0-3? The second means they have enough travel for lifts up to 3"

If you guys lifted your truck to work on shocks it might have sat taller momentarily. Springs are what hold the rear up, if you lift your truck up it will stand a little higher until you drive it around.

This. It will work for no lift or up to 3" lift but by blocks only. Those are not recommended for add a leaf or full leaf packs.

If you want wait until @Durobumps comes out with their first gen kits. I'm waiting so I can test them out shortly. I met them and got to see their products first hand at Tundras to Sedona. The 2nd and 3rd gen guys were raving about them

Exactly. No biggie. Just an observation.

I think the rear rose and offset my front ‘one notch up from stock setting’. Its as if both front and rear ends rose equally and gave me the same rake (which I like the rake vs. level look).

    I’m happy with it.

Yes fronts first then rears. He talked about a u bolt flip too. I'm really excited to try them out. My wheelers after a few years are really soft now. The duros are more of a progressive bump

Post up whenever they are available. I’ll check out the specs on their site if you can link it.

Hoping for a simple direct screw in type like OEM with no stupid allen wrench bolt/key to wrestle and have to drop the LCA. Also, some kind of warranty as its designed for 1st Gen and not an afterthought like those others where the angle is not proper. Like to have a set of 4 as per OEM set up.

Oh for sure. I'll be surprised if they aren't angled. All of theirs are vehicle specific. My brother got a set for his 3rd gen 4runner and they are angled. I'll update everyone once I know more

Did a bunch of stuff today. Sealed off the leaking windshield with silicone, tightened u bolts on one side that somehow worked loose, pulled a quart of diff fluid out and replaced it, and took s look at my rear brakes. They’re actually in really good shape. Gonna try bleeding again tomorrow to see if that gets rid of my occasional shudder.

I wouldn’t recommend jumping it with those 35s I accidentally did that when I had ifs and destroyed my fenders ( it did fix the rubbing problem).

You won't get a torque wrench in there, tighten until it's difficult to spin the bushings with your fingers. They should be slightly compressed, but not bulging.

The shocks are useable with a 0" - 3" lift. You won't get a lift from them, except I have noted that with high pressure gas shocks, you may get 1/4" or so over your old , sacked out shocks. Not sure it really lasts though.

Ran the truck on the rack. Left front wheel bearing is making noise, no play. Kinda to be expected after the hit it took.

Another 130 bucks in Toyota parts
