6112 Setting and Tire/Wheel Combo Thread.

It rides phenomenally to me. So much better than stock. Those shocks are monsters. Way bigger than the 5100’s which I’ve ran on previous trucks. They ride way better than the 5100’s in my opinion.

 

Which stock shocks are still on the rear? I do no off reading but am unsure to just do 5100’s or put the 6112’s which might be overkill

 

I’m not really sure what your question is but I’m still running the stock shocks in the rear. I’ve heard of people running the 5100’s in the rear with the 6112’s but I think a lot of people run the 5160’s which are the 6112 equivalent for the rear I believe.

 

You stated you kept the stock rear shocks. I was unsure what came with your truck, thats all. My SR5 has the Billstein 4600 all the way around.

 

I think all stock shocks are 4600
5100 rear allows up to 1" more of lift
5160 rear allows up to 1.5" more of lift
5125 rear is 3-5" more of lift

Not sure if bilstien makes anything that goes like 0-2. Or 2-3 range . Anyone know?

Got some big wheel envy at the northeastern meetup with all those big tires, but with this size tire I love the drive and look.

It doesn't look nose high to me in the pics, but I also have my 6112's at 1.9" on same size RG's with a driver side shim and at certain times it looks nose high. Not always. I've measured it multiple times and it always measures as having 1/4-1/2" rake. Have you measured yours?
I may end up going with a +1 shackle in the rear as well.

 

That is not correct. Only Tundra's with the "TRD Off-Road" package get the 4600 rear shock. The black shock that come on non-TRD Tundra's are just some generic shock made for Toyota by ?

 

I measured it initially and it appeared to be .25” to .5” lower in the front. Maybe it’s just an optical illusion. I’m gonna give it a week or so to settle and then revisit it.

very nice! about to set mine at 1.3 on 275/70/18s as well. Any rubbing or removing besides the front little aero flaps?

 

I don’t know. About 15-20 years ago I called Bilstein and asked them for a rear shock recommendation for a lifted 1st gen Tacoma. That was before they had any specifically for that application. Their tech was very knowledgable and recommended a shock designed for a different vehicle that shared similar length and mounting requirements and a valve setting that would with the weight and leaf spring rate of my Tacoma. They ended up working great. So long story short, I’d call up Bilstein and see what they say.

 

I have the same question. I have 6112s at top setting and @coachbuilder +3 shackles for the rear due to a rack system and @decked system (extra weight issue) Nothing installed yet though. I am debating if I should go with the @toytec boss shocks because they say they support up to three inches of lift. Whereas the 5160s say 1.5.

If anyone knows the answer to this, that would be a big help.

 

Sorry for the late response. Last I checked I had .75 of a inch rake. Looks dead level though.

 

Had to take a grinder to the skid plate because there was some rub when reversing. Probably could have cut a bit less but cleaned it up and hit the naked edge with some rustoleum

 

Dang! Not what I wanted to hear lol. May have to size down to stock size. Would really prefer to not have to cut or trim anything.

 

What offset are your rims? As a fellow cavalry member, great looking truck!

If your running the stock skid you only have to bend the back edges up or down. If you run something like RCI they are made to handle larger tires etc. And as a huge bonus add better protection and easy access to the oil filter.

 

Stock is great if you don't mind the look. Great gas milage. Great on pavement. Great off the line. Nobody will look at you funny...or at all. I joke. But seriously, you aren't trimming anything structural. It's a 5 min, do it yourself job. Cutting through 1/16th" sheet metal...All you need is a $35 grinder from Harbor Freight. Or the other option is as @gjcarving says - you can bend it up, or you can always run an RCI if you don't want to trim.

I upgraded suspension mostly for drive improvement, not to flex my bro lean. The second setting sits the truck at a front height that all trucks should look coming off the factory floor. I wanted a proportioned look, with a slight rake, and a larger tire. It's my daily driver. And in the 2.5 years I've put on 50k miles, so I can't go too crazy on size.

If I go with bigger tires than the 275/70, I'll raise it up but I don't want to be the guy who drive around the malls looking like they skipped leg day.

And right now, the drive is amazing.

 

I was just giving shit haha. But it would be impossible with only 3inches if lift to look like you skipped leg day that’s not much at all

 

I'm just pissed because in Massachusetts we're not allowed to lift it more than 2"

I’m pretty sure SCS wheels are +25 on the Tundra.

 

I have had no issues with my setup
6112’s on top setting 3 Coach builder shims 2 on drivers side 1 on passenger side
5160’s in the rear with +3 coach builder shackles with leaf spring spring bushings
Supreme diff drop on stock Uca’s
Running 35’s Toyo open country AT2’s on factory platinum wheels with 1 1/4” bora spacers. Only issue Mass inspection gave me was for my tint SMH!!!

 

Chris forgot to share with you to get diff drop off you go top setting. It's $50 extra bucks. Noone does it hardly and I'm sure many will say not necessary but after my CV boot tore 50 miles into my 6112s on highway driving it's worth the peace of mind.

 

If you’ve had the inspection after the new camera systems, that’s great news. Especially with wheel spacers. Your truck looks awesome. Have you touched your exhaust?

Nothing to the exhaust yet, planning to do the TRD pro end pipes with the BA system. The inspection was last August when they implemented the camera’s

 

Yep all I did was bend mine up a bit...took 10 minutes maybe. I figure I'll end up replacing it at some point anyway as it is about the flimsiest skid plate I've ever seen.

 

I thought this was some sort of joke until I looked it up. wow. do they actually enforce this law?
