Recall: Pre-Collision System (PCS)

Glad mine was fine a few weeks ago.

 

Had my truck in for the other recalls about a month ago. Also had a front end alignment done because of installing my lift (5100’s at middle setting with 1 Coachbuilder shim each side). On a side note, they didn’t charge me for the alignment They order the sealant for the front sensor and I had that recall done today! Nothing was said about my lift!

I still have to do mine, I have the Bilstein 6112/5160 combo at higher setting and I won't let them turn the PCS off, that's one of the reasons why I bought a 2018 and not a 2017, besides I have never had an issue with the system and everything works as expected.

 

It doesn’t stay off. Turns back on every time you start the truck. So you would need to turn it off every time as well. I would tell them that they better not put that f-ing stick on my dash.

What’s funny is that I’ve had fewer issues with the system after I lifted my truck. Was in the dealership 5 times to fix the PCS before (12,000 miles) and only twice after lifting (9,000 miles).

 

Hold the phone: you mean to tell me they will fix the TSS sensor if we sign a waiver and disable the PCS for out-of-spec (i.e., lifted) trucks? So the benefit of the "fixed" sensor with disabled PCS is...radar cruise??? Strike two, Toyota.

 

From my understanding it says you cannot use drcc. So what will the sealant fix if the radar is completely disabled?

 

I like your circumstances because they clearly document that there was fault prior to installing the lift.

I don't think that mine will ever return to a dealer...

 

I got another false ‘BRAKE!’ alarm today, truck didn’t brake for me just tried to give me a damn heart attack again. This is first false alarm since the recall late last year (only about 1k miles since then). She’s at the dealer now, we’ll see. I have a theory, I think Tundras see dead people and I’m afraid no software update can fix that. There could be an upside I haven’t figured out yet....

 

I want the whole system turned the F off by default until I manually turn it on. Is there any way to do this via any of the options programming tools?

 

I sincerely doubt it, these systems are the wave of the future. Toyota will figure it out. If you really crave driving freedom I have a minty ‘87 Volvo 740 with a manual transmission and no ABS, 78k miles. The classiest way to say f-u to the man.

 

I’ve had this happen a few times to me as well. I did have the recall and got it fixed. Since then no issues. We will see.

 

Did you have the most recent recall? Sealing the radar thingy and another software update?

The PCS didn't work for me. I was in the inside lane of a 3 lane service road going through a light on a yellow and an idiot turns in front of me at the intersection and crosses all the way over 3 lanes at probably 20-25 mph, hears my horn and hits his freaking brakes. I had to jump a curb and avoid two signs before I went around him instead of through him. I stopped my truck in front of him to give him some "pointers".. but the little millenial turd took off as soon as I got out of the truck. I couldn't have missed him by more than 6 ft. No warning or extra braking. I take some blame for accelerating through a yellow light... but I do not trust the PCS at all.

I also got a false braking warning from a car in a turn lane adjacent to the lane I was driving in. Whole dash display lit up red and there was no problem.

 

I just purchased a 2019 limited and it has TSS. The PCS and Lane departure came turned off by default from the dealer. I can turn it on but I have not yet.

 

Never applied brakes on me either but it blares out with a beep, beep, beeep, beeeeep! hmm, i didn't think it had auto brake.

 

I dont think it auto brakes.

I think it just tells you that you are going to have a shitty day if you dont.

ETA: Toyota says it does.
Hope I never have to try it.

It's blared at me a few times, 1 when traveling on a curved road and i thinks i'm going to hit a parked car on the curve road going 35-40mph, 2, when it was foggy and the sensor somehow got enough moisture on it to think it's blocked, neither time did it try to brake. If it brakes, hopefully someone behind me doesn't rear end me due to this..

 

It yelled at me a couple times approaching another car at a stop sign. I guess I wasn't slowing down fast enough.
Not a fan of this in my truck but if I bitch about the tech people will call me old

Let me tell you it will scare the shit out of you. It happened in my highlander on a 50mph road. Some lady decided to turn left at the last second. So I turned to the right lane to avoid hitting her. As I was about to pass the system kicked in and brought me to a screeching halt. even as I was trying to gun it because I knew traffic was barreling down on me. The guy behind them locked them up. I think he crapped his pants. I must of dropped enough swear words to expand my daughters vocabulary for a while.

 

Daytime. Highway 95. Radar cruise control active and working. Cruise set at 79 MPH. Car in right lane swerved in front of me Cole Trickle style. My brakes applied themselves decelerating vehicle as well as a blinking red maybe orange message in center console saying BRAKE. So my truck did apply braking power a millisecond before I did. No screeching rubber but it definitely started stopping the truck for me. In this instance I feel it worked properly. I have a stock 2019 CM SR5. It will soon have 6112/5160 when backorder 2019magedon ends.

 

I know how those systems work, I've experienced it on our 2019 Subaru Ascent with eyesight in stop and go traffic drama lol. I just haven't on the tundra.

 

What part of Ohio (assuming based on your location)? I live outside Cincy so want to see if it's a dealer by me.

 

You might want to check the sensitivity setting, it has 3 or 4 settings and will stay where it’s set.

 

So my question is, what are the Toyota approved modifications regarding lift and tire sizes?

Are they any lift or tire purchased thru a Toyota dealer? Installed by only a Toyota dealer?
If that's the case then open up sales for the fox pro suspension, at a reasonable price, including installation, make your customers want to spend more money with you.

 

Interesting, I have been told 2 things regarding the grill removal for the 18 and up tundras.

1- no need to have anything re calibrated,

2- per the dealership any time the grill comes off it has to be recalibrated..

I give up lol

 

Yeah, sorry. Not close to you. Akron area. Bought my truck from a dealer in Akron and I wasn’t too happy with the circumstances of the purchase. When it came time for warranty work, I went to the more local dealer to me. They have been nothing shy of awesome!

 

Update on this. Two weeks ago I was denied due to truck being leveled and larger tires. Went in today for trailer brake controller TSB, same dealer. Service advisor said now they can do it but customer has to sign some liability disclaimer paperwork absolving them of any issues related to the PCS post recall if the truck has been lifted or grille altered, etc. I'm on the fence of having them perform the recall because I'm really not having frequent issues with the PCS and I'm concerned there is some risk that if they perform the recall calibration portion, it could make things worse than they already are...and after signing this paperwork there would possibly be no recourse.

 

I spoke to a Toyota mechanic who jumped ship to another brand, he said he would leave the grill plugged and just move to the side a little and tie it off while he changed out the head lights, or go ahead and disconnect but it should not need to be re calibrated. If it does let him know he can do it for me LOL....
