Which cheap front camera did you get? The Natika that @jmevis bought?

Thinking about getting the 720p 210 degree field of view version. I want to mount it inside the cab facing the rear seats so I can keep an eye on the kids during long road trips.

 

Looks nice. My only concern is reality

Can’t figure out steering wheel controls

 

That looks awesome! I'm excited to get back from vacation as everything has arrived at my office. I also think I got an extra head unit from Dasaita through AliExpress. I had cancelled the order and they sent it out anyways....

 

It is awesome, compared to the ancient tech that was in here especially.

Makes the JBL system really pump now, bass comes through nice and firm.

Finally figured out steering wheel controls. On to installing rear camera !!

 

Just confirming we cannot change the front blue LEDs right?

 

Correct... Blue only.

Did your headunit automatically switch to rear camera when you put it in reverse?

The only way to see mine is to go to FCAM and select rear camera

 

Yes it’s automatic because I’m using factory rear camera. You have to figure out the reverse trigger wire from the harness for your setup. Sorry I don’t know which wire that is.

 

@minter66 the user manual should indicate which wire is for the reverse, but that’s for the other harness that came with the HU, not the canbus harness, but I’m assuming it should be the same color. Maybe use a voltage meter to test out that wire when you put it in reverse

Do i splice this into #2 on the canbus harness ?

 

@minter66 is the capped off wire from the canbus harness? Can you test that wire to see if there is voltage when it is in reverse. If there is voltage, I think that will be your rear view power cable.

I’m not 100% sure but just my recommendation.

 

@minter66 or it could be that you need to splice a reverse cable from factory harness to that capped off wire so that HU knows when it’s in reverse.

 

That's clean with a cape on. Super clean.

 

Well that was ridiculous. Had to pull passenger side kick panel to tap into blue wire of bottom most white plug, run small wire to orange reverse cont wire and now it works.

It’s cheap, but all I care about is not smashing my toolbox or cabinets when I have to put the truck in the garage. I literally have 2 inches to spare bumper to garage door

@916tundra @jmevis @minter66 What do I do with the wire that looks like I need to ground it (off the canbus)?

 

Do you have a picture? I didn’t have/see a ground wire on my canbus, but being a 2007, it most likely is different than yours

 

This is the one in question, but everything seems to be working without having to ground it.


Also, which one of these is the GPS antenna? The white one routes somewhere underneath the dash and the black one is part of the original harness. I took an educated guess and picked the black one.

EDIT: I think it is the white one since the head unit is not picking up my location. Will have to switch it to the other one later this week.

 

Way different than mine.

My gps was a threaded brass connector and I had no ground.

Maybe one of the 2014+ guys can help

 

Thanks @minter66 . This thing is sick! Like you guys have said, this thing looks like it was made for the Tundra. Makes the OEM speakers louder. The sound is by no means great, but sounds a lot better and will stave off buying a new system until I can get it done proper.

I did get an extra one. I still have to figure out what to do with it. They keep telling me to change the shipping address with DHL, but it is already delivered. I'm not shipping on my dime. I also had no idea that they shipped it when I cancelled. They didn't send any sort of shipping notification.

If I do sell it, it won't be for $150.

And hope they don't try to do a charge on you for the extra unit. Don't know how AliExpress works on that kind of thing.

 

Also, have you guys had stability issues with the "Carplay"?

It launches fine but when I go into Pandora, the timer is counting up like it is playing, but I don't hear anything. I'll have to force close the app in android and then re-open, then it starts playing.

Also, after reversing ( and my rear cam comes on) when I put it into drive, I get a bunch of errors on the screen...sometimes the carplay app crashes, sometimes it doesn't.

 

I've only used it for about an hour last night and it was doing Android Auto just fine for me. I was messing with it a bunch and making sure the backup camera worked and Pandora (through Android Auto) worked fine. I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the skin...

I had also planned on wrapping the silver trim pieces, but now I don't have to since it matches the head unit.
