I am collecting parts for my mid-travel setup. David Ekstrom, owner of Ekstrom Design, makes several pretty quality things for our trucks. He goes by Coachbuilder on other forums and maybe we will have him here one day. Im just a happy customer and passing the info to you guys.

Instead of blocks or an add-a-leaf, you can get pretty nice shackles. A lot of you probably know what shackles are, but if you don't, they are the part that goes in between your rear leaf springs and frame. I bought his +3's, which actually give between 1.5 and 1.75 inches of rear lift. Also I picked up polyurethane bushings and half inch strut shims. He sends you a carrier bearing drop kit with the shackles too. The shackles and poly bushings get rid of our trucks bead bounce and solidifies the rear end ride quality.

I plan on doing 3.5 inches of lift for the front and decided to use half inch shims with coilovers. I didn't want to have to crank the coilovers up all the way and loose ride quality. Anyway, here are some pics. Some beefy shackles!

Beefy is right holly crap! Shackles are a better option than blocks imo and are cheaper than a new leaf pack. If you dont mind how much do they run?

The shackles, bushings and carrier bearing drop was 250 and the shims were 15 per shim. Shackles alone were 195. Shipping was included and shims and shackles were powder coated.

Yeah I looked at all the options for rear lift and this was the best I've found. If I'm going to change the factory suspension, I felt like I wanted something solid.

Sounds like we are trying to accomplish about the same thing as far as lift goes. will look into these when its time for sure. My other thought was to go with the 3 leaf progressive pack from ICON.

I looked at that too. I almost went with the icon pack, but decided if I ever get a wild hair to lift with the zone 5 inch, I would already have shackles and could just add the icon pack for a full 3 inches in the rear. After reading about bed bounce and the improved ride with the bushings I figured I'd do this. Plus I wanted a less body roll without a sway bar. I like the icon pack though. It's the only other way I would go.

I have priced out a set of these with David. Great guy, runs them himself and has tons of information about set-ups for our trucks. I will definately be going this way when I do a lift!

Yeah I left him a message and 5 minutes later he called and spent about a half hour talking about the shackles and the best ways to go with lifting the truck. Good guy

I sure will. It may be a bit though. I've been going back and forth on different coilovers. It is looking like a set of kings will be what I go with, but I'm just going to wait a bit longer for Sean to find out what's going on over at toytec.

Shackles are the best way to go in my opinion. No chance of axle wrap and these with poly bushings are supposed to almost eliminate bed bounce. I haven't done the install yet because I'm debating between coilovers.

Hi guys, I just visited this post and wanted to add a couple things and get some feedback. First, I just installed my Stage 2 Icon kit. I have the front sitting at about 2.5" that puts me maybe at a .5" rake. LOVE THE RIDE. However, I put on the 6 speed wheels for better offset etc to fit a bigger tire and I put on 315/70/17 BFG KO2's. I had to eliminate the front wheel liner and the splash guard and still have some rubbing going on. I really didn't want to remove anything because now I have exposed fog lights etc underneath, but that is what we did. I regret that. Now, I am thinking of raising the front another .5" to .75" in front and add a 1" shackle in rear to keep my rake relative to its current stance. What are your suggestions with my particular setup? Which shackle? Also, I really want to add my wheel liner back on too. Please help.....

You have a few options, We build a front bumper shim kit that will slide the bumper forward .50".. this will take everything with it, plastic fender liners, fog light covers ect. I'll post a pic of the kit installed.
You can use a few of our coilover shims to increase ride height by .50" per shim. you're able to use up to 2 shims per side and normally use 2 shims on the driver side and 1 on the passenger to level the truck out side to side correcting the tundra lean. This will also allow you to keep the preload on the coilovers the same on each side. When shimming Id def recommend using our front bump stop extension kit as well.
In the rear our +2" Coachbuilder shackles provide 1.25" of total lift and will set the truck up to look very close to live but will measure just a touch higher in the rear.

    * Adding the shims up front will not increase preload keeping your ride quality the same.
Our Rear shackles and poly bushings will greatly improve ride quality and the functionality in the rear suspension. Hope this helps.

We have forum pricing setup and will gladly pass it on, If you have any other questions or would like to get parts headed your way feel free to contact me direct. David 801-635-4872

These are 1/2" bumper spacers. You don't even notice the difference and it made room for my tires. They do not rub at all. Easy install. Two guys ~20-30min for the bumper shims. I did +3 shackles for towing.

    THANKS DAVID!!!

the bumper spacers, if you use those, is there no trimming on the front to run 35" tires ?
    if lifted up front 2.5"-3".

Minor plastic rework and lose both mud/splash guards, no CMC. My tires are 34.4" and I have no rubbing whatsoever. I can take some pics of the plastic if you want. All this does depend on tire size/width, and wheel off set and width too. And definitely 3" minimum lift for 35's.

Can you post pics of your plastic rework. Any trimming or just pushed in?

This is the only shot I currently have. I'll take some more when I get a chance... Nor'easter coming tomorrow. As far as I know, the bumper side black plastic was trimmed and pushed forward... very clean, and just the mud flap on the cab side was removed.

Very interested to know how you like the shackles considering the load you tow. I am still processing all options to remove my 1" block and go with a better option.
What made you go with the shackles in the rear?
Did you conisder an AAL or the Icon Pack?

I pull a boat and a 28' toyhauler. Toyhauler weighs around 8k full. I'm looking for the best rear suspension option for regular towing.
