The new sensor ( sensor # 4 ) and calibration done by the regional Toyota rep. lasted only 5 weeks, here we go again with "BRAKE WARNING" and PCS not working, called Toyota started the buy back, hopefully they will buy it back, this is my 11th Toyota in the house and maybe the last one !!!!!

Man, I really feel for you guys having these issues. Mine will occasionally go offline during inclement weather, but that's apparently normal. Once in a blue moon I get a "BRAKE!" alert, but that's so rare that I am not concerned. It's a bummer Toyota hasn't been able to iron this out. They have it on almost every other vehicle model, I'm not sure what the problem with the Tundras are. Unless the other models are having the same issues.....

PCS off light has come on/off approx 5-7 times, 3 times this past Sat alone. Message shows to clean sensor, goes away upon turning truck on/off, and on it's own. First time I noticed it, pulled over and checked information display where pcs said on but off indicator was on to right. My buddies 2018 also has same issue... Randomly will get BRAKE light flash & super loud beeps scaring heck out of me with no cars near.

Have dealt with dlrs in the past and from reading here will get no where with them other then can't duplicate or some bs explanation. Really wish there was a way to deactivate the tss/pcs

Got the Take it to the Dealer rap today. Dealer said the front sensor was not communicating so they are replacing it. Truck has 7k miles and an 18.

I've had intermittent weather related TSS messages where the cruise wouldn't work whenever on the highway and it was a wet day.

Just did mine this morning. After reading all of this and having the same problem.. I figured the only way to get Toyota off their asses is to file with NHTSA

Anyone else having an issue with their 2018 Toyota Tundra breaking on its own? I just bought my truck end of last year but hadn’t driven it much until now. My tundra only has 3000 miles on it and just in the last 3 weeks it appears the truck thinks I’m getting into a collision and the screen starts flashing break and beeps and the truck automatically applies the breaks. When this occurs I am not using the radar ready cruise control. My truck was just washed so it’s not due to dirty sensors. This issue happens while I’m driving down the road and no one is in front of me and it also happened while driving into a parking garage. Truck has already been to dealer twice with no error codes and dealer claims nothing wrong with truck. Anyone else have this issue?

    Welcome from NY.

There are several posts about this, just do a search.

I think it was the water near the sensor after being washed.

Where are you from? The water could have been frozen if you are in a cold climate.

Thanks for your reply. The truck has only been washed 3 times since I bought it so that’s not it. I live in south Texas. I never drove it much before because I was working from home so it never got dirty.

Go to the Toyota website and put in your VIN# , it will tell you of any recalls/updates.

Yup the system failed in mine. Did false warnings for a few months, then the screen on the dash said the collision system malfunctioned and to go to the dealer. Just got the sensor replaced by the dealer today.

My 2018 limited crew max started doing this a week a go, and has been ongoing daily. Pictures and documenting - here I go. This sucks! I did open the hood last night and look down at the sensor behind the emblem (assuming that it) and it looked like they tried to put a drip loop of sorts on the wiring harness attached to the sensor. Unfortunately the loop is at the same height as the sensor and the loop is so tight it looks like it could kink the individual wires in the harness. I would think that if the cable attached/approached the sensor from below and if they put some silicon sealant around and covering the connection it could help the problem. Otherwise - off I go on this expanding wild goose chase.

So i have been dealing with the same problem for a while now had the sensor replaced twice this time around they said they finally have a fix it turns out that condensation is getting into the sensor housing and causing the collision sensor in the grill to malfunction.. toyota now has a kit to seal it and will replace at no cost. That sensor not only controls the safety system but the cruise control as well Expect a recall notice soon!! I hope this helps

I had my first issue with this problem this past weekend. While in cruise on the interstate in a light rain the cruise control kicked off and wouldn't re-engage. Very frustrating as the truck has less than 1k miles on it.

Called my dealer and found out that there is a service campaign that just was activated. Here are the details:

So I would suggest looking up your vin or calling your dealer to see if you are affected by this.

I’m sure by now you all know that any of us running a larger tire than stock or a lift are SOL!! No recall and no fix for us!!
Called corporate numerous times and they refuse to budge.

I have to concede that the Manual does say not to use the PCS with tires larger than stock or a lift. Who the hell would have thought a company would put a system in a truck that many people choose to modify rendering the safety system unsafe according to Toyota?

I did get them to admit that the capability to do the recall including calibration does exist on a truck above stock height. It can absolutely be done but they advised the dealers not to do it. So it’s not that they can’t, they just won’t because Corporate put all of the responsibility on the dealer. If you can find a dealer willing to do it good luck!

I don’t see winning this argument with them on the recall because of what the manual states. So my next course of action is to try and get the system deactivated permanently. It’s usually off for days at a time so it’s easy to forget to turn the damn thing off. If I forget and the system starts to work it could throw out an unexpected brake warning on me and cause an accident. I now have a safety system on my brand new 19 Tundra thats part of a recall and I can’t get it fixed unless I have my truck dismantled. The least they can do is deactivate it. It’s more unsafe to leave it as is. It’s not required by any laws to be on the truck so it really shouldn’t be an issue especially since it should be shut off whenever it’s being a truck...like having it loaded or towing. It’s a very flawed system and has no business being on the trucks. It’s actually made them less safe IMO.

I agree! Would rather have it disabled so it doesn’t cause an accident. Plus the annoying loss of the center of the dash when it goes out. It is strange that they would rather not fix it and let a malfunctioning system go untouched. Seems like a bigger lawsuit for the later rather than fixing it.

I have a 19 trd sport. I've had this same problem since 300 miles.(now 3000). System goes down after washing, during rain, or driving into the sun. Toyota dealer blamed my 2"leveling kit. Said that they should not have performed tsb repair on sensors because of it, but did anyways. My hero. Now I have have some piece of foam on the sonar sensor behind my grill, as well as the light on my dash.

    Thread Revival!

My truck is at it again... typically its only been the psc sensor "visit dealer" issue, but this time ive lost cruise control entirely, pcs, and lda warnings on my dash..

This makes the 4th time ive gone in for these sensor issues and its quite annoying. You'd think they would have this sorted out by now

is there a way they can disable the system completely? something to consider once the warranty runs out.

Just to share my experience and hopefully fix with you guys.... I put a leveling lift in the front of my Tundra when I first bought the truck and never had any issues with the PCS sensor. 5k miles later I take it in for the complimentary maintenance and they performed the recall on it as well. After I took it home that day is when I started getting the PCS unavailable alert so after a few weeks of that I bring it back to the same dealership for them to fix it. They said they were unable to fix the issue because it was due to my lift... which made no sense to me since it was working fine before they messed with it. Anyway I was going to be moving to a new state in a couple of weeks so I said screw it I’ll just take it to a dealership down in Florida when I move. I take it to the dealership in Florida and they laughed when I told them the last place blamed it on the lift, they took a look at it and saw that the last place performed the wrong recall on the sensor. Apparently there are 3 levels for the recall. On the recall paper it says Recall B was performed and Recall A was needed. Also they had to order me a new sensor in order to put the correct recall on it. I’ve only driven the truck 10 miles but so far no issues with the PCS light coming on.

Soooo if any of you are having the same issues, you might want to ask your dealership which recall or update they performed.

Here’s a copy of the paper they gave me.
