What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

This is possible and what I thought originally, but the ‘over’ swing is both ways (on both arms). It would make sense if the over swing went only one way that the wiper arms were mis-installed by others. Seems like its over swinging both ways and maybe something loose. Hope its an easy fix!

Ordered a set of these as well. I may eventually get the rear ones.

Anyone think the rear set are worth it?

 

Not unless you plan on stomping some long distance landings. Only time I’ve ever hit the rear bump stops is when carrying over max load 1600lbs. in the bed and hitting just some regular bumps in the road at normal speeds.

 

Those front bump stops interest me and seem like a well designed improvement helper for our shocks for dampening frontal heavy suspension dips. Our OEM ones are hard as rocks right up on the frame.

Only thing is do the come into play on regular street driving? If not much, then the only benefit is for off-road abuse. Cost from memory is $100 each?

 

What lights did you install in your other rig? Do you have any close up pics?

 

I have to think they help any time you hit a big pot hole. They are $65 for the front set and wheeler gives a 5% forum discount. Their shipping is high though. Also, I'm sure those original bump stops are shot after nearly 2 decades.

 

Wow. $65 isn’t bad even if they rarely get used on potholes. I wish I could test these out on the street before buying them.

Yes. I sent them a message here on the forum and they said the ones for the Tacoma or newer Tundra are basically the same. You can order either and they will work.

 

Nah - 2003+ has a much better smile. Every time I look at the front of my 2003 it's smiling at me. Just a happy truck, makes me smile back.

 

I agree. I wish my truck had the newer bumper design. It looks better.

 

The front ones do add dampening on the street, maybe moreso if you aren't lifted. I think they were about $100 for a pair and you use one per side. To your point I think the rears won't do a lot unless a full progressive spring pack were used, the original leafs don't often compress enough to gain benefit from a softer bump stop.

 

yes. I have them installed. Not sure why they out 07+ instead of 00+

 

I did the rear just in case since I removed my overloads when I did the progressive AAL in hopes of extra flex out of the stock leaf packs.

 

These $100 ones are the same ones FirstgenVol is talking about? $65 a pair plus shipping?

With my front end Billy Jeans set at one notch up from stock height, will these bump stops need a spacer in your opinion? Looks like they sell a 1/4” and 3/8” spacer.

Putting on new headlights really makes the truck look new again. Plus, the better lighting at night is another bonus. Makes you feel good.

 

On my first test drive after all the things I did to truck, felt it drove and rode pretty good but still hoped for a bit better ride with the new taller Mich tires . My first instinct was , I need to check air pressure. Upon checking the pressure , they were all reading around 35 pounds, truck sticker says 29 on front and 32 on back so I brought them down to the correct pressure and then drove about 15 miles and definitely an improvement.

 

Looks like your wiper arm spring had come off and the arm had extended to far.

 

Oh - good catch, it does look too long.
Maybe someone was in the cowl to stop the clip leak & the reinstalled the arms on the wrong sides, maybe left arm & right arm are swapped. That would make sense, are they different lengths?

No spacer, it's pretty tight for space once the truck is on the ground. I had picked up 1/4" spacers and found I didn't need them, I don't think they would even fit.

I'm not sure about the $65 ones. Check my build thread and you'll see some installed pics and comparisons with stock.

 

Will do. I remember you had to jack up the front to let the lower control arms hang to fit the bumps in. I’ll check it later.

 

Your windshield has been replaced. The watermark is aftermarket.

Just FYI for everyone, since the first gen tundras are not listed as supported for these, I e-mailed Wheelers and this is what they said...

"People have used them on the first generation Tundra's.
They just don't have a warranty on them because of the way they mount.
They are a little angled once mounted.
People normally shave the bottom to help them become more straight up an down
for when it makes contact."

 

Do your guys have 2 bumps per side?
Mine does, on either side of the control arm. I use them alot

 

No bumstops = more suspension travel. Just delete them.
