You wouldn't do that on the head unit. You would have a gain/bass knob connected to your amp.

If the headunit has sub-preouts you would be able to control it wouldnt you? I could've sworn I did this with the headunit I had in my Camaro.

You can do it this way, but you are better off with using a remote bass knob connected to your amp

The HU does have a sub out and you can go into the settings to turn sub on/off and control the gain; however it’s better to use the bass knob for your sub amp.

Three things I’ve noticed so far with this HU.
    1) this is obvious with any aftermarket HU, you will lose turn by turn navigation at the steering wheel dash/screen
    2) locking and unlocking the truck no longer makes beeping noise. I have to do some research into why it’s no longer beeping. Anyone heard of this issue?
    3) music is paused when in reverse, this could be a good thing so you won’t be distracted.

Thanks I'd like to install a front camera too and use it when ever I want. Most of these after market HU have the ability too view cameras.

For # 3, I believe there is a setting that you can change. I remember reading that on the "android head unit" thread. try going into the settings and make sure the parking sound is on

I think you should read the android unit thread here, it's full of knowledge. Even though your radio is different then theirs, the operating system is almost the same.

Thanks, I will look into it but having the music pause might be a good thing for me. As for #2, not sure why locking and unlocking no longer beeps. Debating if that’s a good thing or not. Read that some people was looking to disable the beeping feature on this forum.

@916tundra You inspired me. I placed an order for everything on your HU spreadsheet and I added a Front View Camera to the Amazon shopping cart. Some of the parts from Allied Express show 25 days but you got yours very quickly. :fingerscrossed:

Which front camera did you get? Can you provide a link? I will install one too.
Installing the HU to the Metra trim kit was a bit tricky. I will post some photos and tips to make installation easier.

Here are some tips on how to install the HU to the Metra mounting kit.
    1) place only the face plate on top of the HU first.
    2) put on the screen and align with HU and install the two plastic pins. Move the face plate around to make room to insert the pins.

    3) Install the two thumb screws. You have to cut the plastic (I used wire snip) off the thumb screws in order for them to fit the face plate. The third photo shows the thumb screw before it was cut and I found out they both didn’t fit. Cut only the outside edge.

    4) Install side mounting plates per provided instruction.

There is an app called AVIN and I believe this is your front camera app. I don’t have a front camera so nothing is showing. As for the reverse camera, I’m not sure. I don’t think the Tesla HU has the reverse camera app since it needs the reverse signal. I have to do some research.

I guess we could get the FRAC harness to get the anytime view of the front and rear camera.

Not sure if this pertains, but years ago, to be able to watch dvds on my old double din pioneer dvd HU in 4Runner, I installed a relay on the green ground wire from HU which tricked it into thinking truck was in park and allowed me to play movies while in drive...

That's interesting. From what I have read "quickly" the tesla HU guys can toggle through the cameras with out a FRAC? There is conflicting info though. One of my pet peeves with the stock HU is that you cant connect a new phone to bluetooth with out stopping. Im hoping this new one will let you.

does that head unit act like a full android tablet with playstore access and everything or only the 8 or so apps that show? are there any USB slots or expansion slots?

Looks like it comes with 2 or 3 usb hook ups. @916tundra will have to answer the apps question. I'm fairly certain off the youtube review you can download apps.

Look into it, it was a 20 min mod and costed like $6 for the relay. The relay had 4 pins I believe, I jumped two of them together and connected the ground to another pin and that was it. It was the rage to do in the early 2000’s, tons of DIY videos then, should still be on YouTube somewhere

There are 3 included USB adapters/slots. I use one for the CarPlay adapter, planning to use another usb slot for SSD hard drive, the third will be used for accessory (tpms). This is basically an android device/tablet, you can download any apps you like from play store.

@jmevis I haven’t figured out how to keep the music playing while in reverse so even if we use a relay to have anytime front/rear camera showing, we would want the music to keep playing

Hi gang, I'm new to the forum and I'm loving it so far. I fairly recently purchased my Tundra and have been using this site a lot. I work for a company called Autotech located in Miami, Florida and they are the largest JL audio dealer in Florida. If you guys are interested in anything JL audio I spoke to the owner and they can provide a 15% off on most equipment and maybe even a little more on other parts. They can ship it directly to you guys, let me know if any one is interested. Happy to have found this community looking forward to sharing what I can with you guys.

    just a reminder gang

Thanks for directing me to your thread.

Does the carplay adapter / headunit keep your iPhone charged? I saw one review stating it's USB 2.0 and can't charge one guys iPhone fast enough.

I would be buying this to exclusively use CarPlay and have a giant screen for my reverse cam. So other than the carplay adapter, I don't need any other harnesses / adapters / GPS pucks / etc right?

Thanks for letting me pick your brain.

    Is this what you bought?
