Oh you just pop the little square trip piece on top of the steering column and push down on the white plastic, shift away. But in previous Toyotas you could shift as long as the key was “on”
    Edit: Prett sure anyway...

So far this Tundra has been pretty predictable, like my last one. However, my '94 pre-Tacoma had something that really made me feel dumb. I loved the truck, except the center console was a tiny little box. Yea it towered between the seats, behind the gear selector and 4wd shifter, looking like a lot of space. But when opened, there was this little box with no room for anything larger than a couple of paperback books. Why would they bother to make this big plastic box with a tiny space on top. Well, about 3 years later, I dropped my keys on the floor by my feet and I could almost reach them, so I grabbed the front of that box, down low to pull myself down lower and low and behold, I happened to grab a hidden latch down lower at the front of the box and it opened to a big second compartment below the little box. Oh I am an idiot...

This is super handy to know. When I'm out camping, I always seem to need to charge my phone at the camp-site and I don't want to turn the truck on just to charge my phone.

Just tried this on my 2019 and BAM, all of sudden talk radio is actually audible at 20 out of 60 on my non-JBL Etune plus. I heard a significant increase in Rush Limbaugh on the interstate this afternoon adjusting from MID to HI.

I don't think this is accurate. If you look at follow up post I think they guy determined that another device was charging the circuit, kinda like a battery pack.
I know on my '18, you turn the key off, all those ports are dead.

Crazy my second gen ports stay live for a few hours before disengaging, on my 3rd gen I miss it, they all go dead instantly the key is removed

On my gen2 I installed a switch in the dash that goes to my ebrake switch so I can flip it and drive with parking lights off

I've seen a post about how to rewire some stuff to get an always live port. I'm not to the point I want to cut wires on my '18. I can live without it.

Exactly. There has to be something else plugged in to draw power from. It wont draw power from the truck battery.
