Second Best 1/2 Ton Truck...

I had an F-150 so not ford. The rest are a toss up. Probably equally bad but I'd pick dodge purely on looks.

 

This is a tough one. I test drove all of them (except Nissan) before buying my Tundra and they all felt equally inferior. I guess my vote would go to Chevy by default since I drove their junk for years.

 

Looks like the F-150 is second best. Point proven to my buddy who was saying his GMC is the best truck.

 

I just hate the Chevy engines. Not a fan of the aluminum body for that reason but there's always trade offs. Would rather have a decent engine.

 

Chevy 6.0L doesn't exactly suck. I've been in Chebbie with the 6L. Hauled ass.

 

No trade offs. Stick with Toyota USA made by well paid happy non union workers.

 

But does Ferd offer a long bed (8') extended cab F150 ?

 

Everyone saying "gmc - the Denali version" doesn't get it. The Denali version of any gmc is like if your wife's ugly friend shaved her cock holster and put on some lip stick. It's the same fucking thing. I JUST came from a 2015 GMC Sierra Z-71, with the 5.3l. It took threatening to take GMC to lemon law court over the pile of shit truck to get a $3500 trade assist offer to only buy another fuckin gmc. Trucks are trash, company is fucking trash, they shouldn't even be considered under any circumstance. The 5.3l can't even lick the jock of the 3.5l in the Tacoma, it's bad...

We aren't talking about 25 or 3500s though. Strictly half tons.

My truck shook at any speed over 68mph. The steering wheel didn't shake, but the seats and everything else in the truck shook. I had it back at the dealership 4 times, they balanced the tires, replaced the tires AND wheels, replaced the driveshaft, and replaced the ring gear. Nothing worked. Truck still shook at 68+. And it's tough because gmc either doesn't know how to fix it, or does and doesn't want to pay to fix it. The drivetrain is no different for 2016 and people are also reporting they shake like hell too. A $45k truck should not shake.

Other than that i had the AC compressor shit the bed, truck would "skip" when going from 4cyl to 8cyl mode, 4wd felt like it was binding non stop if you had it on. Their info link or whatever you call it is a huge piece of shit and doesn't have actual navigation. Just dumb stuff that you would think would be good in an expensive truck. Mine had 3.08 gears, which is fucked to even think about putting in a truck; it was a dog. It rode like shit. It was just a huge pile of shit, me and a buddy bought almost identical trucks around the same time and he still has his. He drove my tundra and was immediately impressed after doing nothing but shit on it when I bought it...

 

So what you are basically sayin is that a Chevy/GMC sucks? heh..heh. I don't care much for any of the big three. I did like the Denali interior.

 

Years ago, near Van Nuys Kommiefornia, Every year at Woodley Park they have Mopar Madness in March. Not long after the Viper came out, there was a 2wd Dodge with the Viper motor swapped in. I liked it.

 

I agree... this is from a guy who was a Ford F-150 guy ( last Ford was a 2005) for my whole life. My 2014 TRD beats the competition hands down... just sayin...

Yeah, GM just makes huge piles of shit. Never driven one of their bigger trucks, but I would assume it's no different - I'd buy a Dodge if I had to buy a new 1 ton.

 

I used to think Chevy but after the horror stories I've scene I'd just get a Tacoma if not a Tundra.

 

The Duramax is a great engine, and the Allison is awesome. I drove one at my last job, and I was never left wanting for power even when pulling 20k+ lbs. The only problem we had with a few of the 2011's was they threw DEF codes fairly often, my 2012 never had any of those problems.

The 6.0L in the 3/4 tons is a pretty good motor as well, we run them as shop trucks at my current job. As far as I know they don't have cylinder deactivation but I could be wrong.

 

Honestly, I would probably feel the best about the GMC 3/4 or 1 tons just from seeing all the issues my buddies had from their Fords. I can't totally fault Ford, because they never left them stock but it was still concerning to see them have MAJOR issues and breakdowns at least every 3 months.

My dad has the sierra Denali 6.2. It the only thing I have ever been in that compares to my Tundra in interior and hp/torque. To each their own...my dad still thinks my truck is made in Japan.

 

Your not kidding about the shake, I currently drive a rclb 2014 Silverado and it doesn't shake. I am looking to upgrade to a larger cab so naturally looked at a double cab chevy, went to test drive and it shook like crazy at 65mph. So now here I am shopping for a Tundra.

Aside from that my Silverado has been great, my mpg are awesome loaded and unloaded and the truck has done what I have asked of it so far. I have had it in for 2 recalls since ownership, my driver seat ripped at like 8kmiles and gm replaced under warranty and my last service a week ago I had a squeak that turned out to be loose trans mount. The gm dealer has been great and never questioned any of my concerns or warranty work request. I will be going to a different dealer then I bought my taco from for the tundra purchase as they were awful when you mention a concern "characteristic of the truck" I swear I ever hear that again...lol. All makes and models have issues, its just a fact of life, Toyota is better but not golden, my taco had AIR valve failure at 53k and no help from Toyota. I will say though my Tacoma at 66k is as tight as the day I bought it where my Silverado at 24k my wife tells me "drives old."

 

No Tundra? Having owned all of them, I'd rather overload a Tacoma than drive one of the 'Big 3s' 1/2 tons again... Or if hauling/towing real heavy loads I guess I'd go with another 6 speed manual CTD. Been driving mine for over 13 years- still use it for work- and it's been an OK truck. Have spent money here and there that pissed me off, batteries/alternators/front ends/FASS fuel systems, etc, but overall it's been decent...

My Dodge gas pot trucks were garbage, even the 318 Dakota had issues. My F-150 was one electrical nightmare after another, heaven forbid it rain out! My old GMCs were OK- 305s and 350s- I'd own another old GM, but my Dad's 2013 burns oil like it thinks it's a 2-stroke, and yet, 'it's in spec'... Not for this kid! Nope, Tundra or nothing, thanks.
