Max tire size with OME 2.5” lift

I’ve got an OME 2.5” lift on order and it’s finally being shipped (they’ve been on BO). I’m also replacing the tires and wheels. For wheels I have matte black 17” TRD’s coming. What’s the tallest size tires that will fit without rubbing or hitting my wheel wells? I’m hoping for 285 70 R17 or maybe even 295 70 R17. My truck is a white 06 double cab.

285 should be fine. I think you may have a slight rub with 295's based on what others have reported. @because_v8 didn't you have to trim with 295's? Your Toytech coilovers should have a similar lift as the OME.

I have Cooper AT3 285/75r16 on my stock wheels and they just BARELY fit. In fact on some hard offroading I have rubbed the inner frame section a couple times (you can see clean shiny spots on the frame) but it is probably the size of my pinky nail and its not hard enough to even hear it. I would definitely not go any larger than that. I believe the 285/75r16 is about 33x11.50 approximately if I remember correctly.

great, those black trd wheels are awesome. The specs on those wheels are 17x7. In my opinion Max tire size you can run on that rim would be a 285. 295 would be pushing it due to rim only being 7 inches wide. Nice truck btw

 

Those are 13mm offset right? Are you going to run spacers?

 

+4mm on those TRD wheels.

I don’t know anything about offset or spacers. I thought if they were Toyota 6 lug truck wheels they would bolt on and work fine.

So it looks like those trd wheels are right around 4.25 backspacing. You should not have any trouble running a 285/70/17 on your tundra with that ome lift curious, what brand of tires are you looking at?

I keep looking online and these dealerships I dont trust. I would like to purchase a first gen tundra 4x4 with low miles for its year, minimal rust and runs great. Upgrades are a plus. Distance doesnt matter. If you have something, please hit me up

 

You should not need spacers, generally on first gen tundras any wheel with backspacing between 4-4.5 is ideal when running 285 or larger tires.

 

Good luck with your search, they are great trucks. Be very careful if looking at any trucks where they use salt.

 

Those wheels are for Tacoma’s/4runners

Tundras have 5x150 lugs, Tacoma’s have 6 lugs

The tallest will likely be a 255/80r17...that is a full 33+ inch tire. 285/70/17 will be 32+ inches. Also, that 255 is a perfect size for a 7 inch rims...285 on a 7 inch rims can be done, but pinches the tire a bit. Some folks don't like the skinny tire look, but I do...ymmv. Traction wise 255 is better.

I don’t mind a tall skinny tire but that size...255 80 R17 limits my tire options. I don’t see where Michelin even offers that size.

Those should be perfect for our 1st gen trucks. I think my stocks are 10mm. I wish they came 7.5". I think i like these better than the FJ used ones I was looking at.

 

A very reputable company called FN was reading your mind They make their own trd style wheel for all the popular 6 lug Toyota’s. The specs on the wheels are slightly different because they know people want to run a 285 or larger tire. Here is a link I found from the 4runner folks.

If you’re considering a tall skinny type, the 255/75/17 is a nice compromise size. It’s a 32 inch diameter tire.

Tires, wheels and lift is done.
Problemas- The suspension performance has improved but the OME 2.5” lift is too tall for me. I don’t like it, it’s a no go.
I had Bilstein 5100 on the front set at 1.3”, rear was stock. I thought the OME 2.5” would give me 1” more height in front. That’d be perfect. Nope, it raised my truck level with 3.5” in the front. I’m not sure how much the OME leaf raised my rear but i think its at least 2.5”.
I’m starting over. I have the old Bilstein’s from the front and have considered reinstalling them but I would need rear shocks (the stock shock were shot) and the whole point of these upgrades is to improve ride and suspension performance.
I’m now considering bitting the bullet and replacing the OME lift with Icons coilovers and rear shocks from Toytec. Setting the fronts to 2” but what do I do with the rear? I know the Icon rears shocks are adjustable also but I’m not going to get any lift out of the shock, right!? It’s the added OME leaf raising my rear, right!?
I don’t want my truck to be level, I like a bit of rake. Optimally I’d like my tundra to have 2” lift in the front and maybe 1.5” lift in the back, over stock.
Also, in another thread they were recommending oem upper ball joints. Is that something I should also be considering?
Anybody interested in a used OME 2.5” lift?

FYI- I’m almost 58 years old and I love my old school tundra. It fits my lifestyle. I’ve had it for 8 years and am planning on at least another 8.

What tires and wheels did you go with? Are you wheels from FN? What size are they? I have they same truck. An 05 DC Limited 4x4. Bought it new. Keeping it.
