Update on the Magnuson SC and the Dyno. They did a couple light pulls today on the Dyno and it’s not getting enough fuel. I know Magnuson said flex fuel tundras do not need to have different injectors or a fuel pump but the motor needs more fuel to run at the proper air fuel ratio. They said they don’t know how Magnuson can run a SC with the current injectors and fuel pump. I would rather have it done right and be happy then rush to get my tundra back. I guess my tundra will be at the shop a little longer. I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

That claim has stuck with me ever since I read it. It just didn't seem right, but I figured there were other factors that I wasn't seeing. Glad to know it's getting answered correctly though. REALLY interested to see what the final tally is going to be to do this upgrade. Thanks for keeping us updated!

I’m not a big fan of the flex fuel vehicles to begin with but the Gulf State region is mostly all flex fuel tundras.

I did talk to Whipple about the Tundra SC which is in development right now. It won’t be released for six months or more. No idea what they will do for their setup yet. They did say it’s a bigger performance SC over the Magnuson. I like how Whipple allows you to order different colors or have the SC polished at an upcharge cost though.

Wonder if peripheral drivetrain components start having to get upgraded as well w/that one.

Good question. I’m not sure though. They don’t have a lot of info on it yet since it’s still being tested.

I spoke with Pro Speed the other day about getting my Magnuson SC tuned properly. The stock OEM injectors have to small of a nozzle and the current fuel to air ratio is to lean. I was told there are only two after market injectors on the market for the tundra and neither are the optimal setup. Pro Speed is working with an injector company to get the proper injectors with the proper fittings to fit my tundra. My fuel tank will be getting a high flow fuel pump installed that will be capable of keeping up with the proper air fuel ratios needed. I have the option for the methanol kit as well. Not sure if I want or need to go that route just yet. The methanol injection kit is like having extra insurance to maintain a cooler running temp. The tank for the methanol would go in my bed if I decided to go that route. I can’t say I’ve heard of anyone doing that setup with a SC. I’m very excited to see what my truck does on the Dyno! The waiting game is always hard to do!

I researched this before buying the Magnuson. The OEM TRD SC was developed with great consideration of the peripheral components. Thus, it claimed a modest 505hp, and basically nothing downstream was going to break. Magnuson bumped bit to 550hp and has maintained success in not blowing up the DT. As far as failures... It seems that when people changed the pulley to stretch the hp up to 600, the most common Supercharged failure point is the tranny. NO THANKS! So, after a long consideration, I was confident going with something tried and true (Magnuson) and not try to "get anything more out of it" so as to not risk the peripherals.

2nd most common failure was the OEM shear pin in the rear diff. Go Auburn or ARB for that fix but again only if going for 600+hp. Stay under 575hp and the rest of the DT will be pushed, but not broken.... I hope ...:fingerscrossed:

Thanks for the info! My intent is not to push my hp numbers but to make sure the engine isn’t running to lean like it currently is. I already upgraded my gears to 4.88 and the Auburn LSD. I should be around 600 hp but I’ll know for sure soon.

My Tundra is finally done with the new injectors, bigger fuel pump and tuning!!! I’ll find out tomorrow what kind of numbers it did on the Dyno. They said it’s impressive but the waiting is the hardest part.

I honestly don’t know. Pro Speed had to order bigger injectors with a custom fitting and a larger fuel pump that had to have a bracket made for it is all I know. This is what they do best so I let them have at it. I believe this is the first flex fuel tundra to have larger injectors and fuel pump. At least that I’ve know of. I’ll ask when I go pick up my truck what they used.

Should be on the parts list invoice they give to you when it's all said and done. I wouldn't settle for generic entries on this one since it's not a "plug and play" sort of setup. When something goes wrong you'll want to know exactly what the parts are and who made them so they can be replaced and/or swapped out to another manufacturer (if possible).
