What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

After looking at those pics I'm definitely taking mine apart by end of April. When I turn my air on high I can hear twigs and leaves bouncing around, bet mine looks just like that.

 

@Professional Hand Model when you say more volume, how so? Mine sucks. It almost all comes out of the drivers center vent, barely any out of the other 3.
Also, where is that located? Pass side floorboard?

 

Its considered the ‘resistor, blower’ per specs as I wondered exactly what it was myself and found out after research. Cost $21. Mine was a little corroded so I wire brushed it and then put some dielectric grease on what looks to be a fusable link. After that I sprayed some silicone on the rest. Looked fairly new when finished. I’m sure the corrosion was creating some resistance in itself.

 

Passenger side under glove box. Remove the glove box and you’ll have open access to most duct work. You might have a disconnect somewhere. On the drivers side foot well, I lubed up the control cables a plastic sliding parts just because. There is some duct work over there and depending on your situation, you may need to remove the apron under the steering wheel.

Smoother sounding volume and not as noisy. Maybe 10% better? The blockage in the coils looked like 30% blockage. The air was being forced to other areas of the coil making more effort and noise.

 

Do your dry work first. You’ll need a stiff wire hanger to carefully break up the lower stuff. Vacuum and then spray your water hose in the same hole as the vacuum is pictured. The blower hole you’ll use as a spy hole to see where you are aiming.

 

Let me know how this goes. I just ordered a set of Katanas off of Amazon (supposedly identical to the Supernova V4s and manufactured in the same factory for 1/3rd the cost) but if they don't work out I'm going to start looking at all options. Hate the stock headlight output on this and my wife's 2016 4Runner (why it doesn't have HIDs from the factory is beyond me).

 

Half way done.
One box/ 9sheets was enough to do Both front doors. Outer and inner door skin's. Both sides of the floors .
I also did the inner kick panel and the plastic parts.
Also did a little behind the speedo.
My second box will be here in about an hour.
I'll do the rear doors and back part of the cab today.

 

Fixed the plastic scuff plates while I had every thing apart.

 

one side apart. ran out of time tonight... plan on getting the driver side all buttoned up (sans valve cover. they're not back yet) tomorrow and starting on the passenger side... man toyota made these cam seals a bitch. now i remember why i dont like doing them at work

 

That looks fun! But a weird, torturous kind of fun.

 

its not as bad as what im doing to my tacoma! lol... that ones been 3 years of torture.. mostly financially.

 

Drove back home from Mexico and averaged a respectable 18.6 mpg. If I keep it 70 or less that seems to be about as good as it will get. I noticed on my trip that if I stay 65 or less I can get 19.

Checked out a kind of museum while I was down there and saw some pretty cool antiques.

Pretty sure this is the oldest water heater I've seen.

Me too. I filled up yesterday. Went 280.2 miles and filled with 24 gallons for a whopping 11.675 mpg. I dont tow, no lift, stock size tires, no mods. And I'm 60% hwy.

 

Good to know I’m not the only 1st gen getting beans for mileage. I’ve finally worked my way up to 13 mostly highway.

Does anyone else think we need a daily discussion or "ask a question" thread so we don't clog this one up?

I know I'm bad about asking questions in this thread and steering it off course. Let me know if you think we should leave it as is or have a separate sticky for things that don't involve work we've done with/to our trucks.

Maybe? When I got here last year it was pretty slow, so I started clogging things up with stupid questions as it seems things are more responsive in this area. Spring is here and more goons, like us, are getting on board here. A Daily Discussion Area might be nice.

 

Yeah and I don't mean to direct that towards anyone in particular. You're actually posting pictures of the work you're doing. I just thought a separate thread to ask questions might be helpful. I'll see if a few more agree. I'm good with it either way.

Wait, so how did you fix it? It looks like you cut off the protruding plastic piece on the scuff plate... What did you add to insert into the clips??
Am I looking at it wrong?

 

Hit 63k thousand this weekend. Going to start swapping out fluids and probably do the Timing Belt and associated parts this summer. 13 years may be pushing it a little...



Please ignore the part where I took the picture driving 60mph...

 

Most of the tabs were broken on the scuff plates. So put the white nylon clips into the hole of the truck.
So now the screws that hold on the plates go through the plate and into the nylon clips in the truck.

No more loose plates, cheaper then buying new scuff plates.

 

aahhhh, got it. I need to do that as well...
