    Still breaking everything in so I haven’t really utilized the LSD yet. As far the the 4:88s I am running 34 inch tall tires, and have noticed better mpg, power, shifting characteristics, hold gears better. Are trucks have super tall 5th and 6th gear so gears helped a lot definitely worth the price

    Great to hear. I've got 34's as well, and I'm having 4.88's installed in 2 weeks. Can't justify the LSD for my uses though

    Yeah I was in the fence with the LSD too. I got a really good deal on it so it was hard to say no.

    I have them installed on my 17 Crewmax 4x4, front and rear differential. I love them. My truck is lifted 4” and I am running 35” tires on 20” wheels. I also have aftermarket front bumper with winch. In the bed of my truck, I have air compressor, swinging toolbox, and various tools and equipment. So, I am carrying a whole lot of heavy weight. My truck used to labor heavily before I installed the 4.88 gears, but now, it runs like a Bentley. I am getting better mileage and my truck doesn’t run as hot either.

    I take it off-road every once in a while and the truck runs in beast mode!! I have no problems whatsoever maneuvering any terrain now. The transmission shifts smoothly and the truck runs as fast as stock, or even much faster in my opinion. I also have the 38 gallon gas tank, and now am getting every single mile possible from the tank. Mileage has improved tremendously. I strongly recommend the Nitro Gearing for any modified tundra.

    Yeah I shopped around alittle prices were around 700-1100. Lots of competition up here.

    Educate me, fellas. I am looking to go up in tire size from what I have already, no more than 35’s. 4.88 gears have been on my mind for a while. I have a guy that is willing to take the job if I get a pre-assembled 3rd member. Tell me what this means!

    I’m trying to stay away from 4wheelparts and any shops that will charge me out the a$$ :thumbsup:

    I don’t know if you can even buy pre-assembled tundra 3rd members. If you could It wouldn’t be cost effective. Your still going to have to pull the front diff and rebuild and gear it. I would find a differential shop and go there.

    Honestly I need to fund the install of the gears as a priority. The LSD was a whim purchase that I’ll likely never need with my uses. I NEED the gears though as I tow in the summer and being on 37’s, will make that difficult

    Vendors have an incentive to sell gear kits, so take what they say with a grain of salt.

    A gearing/RPM calculator comes in handy for tire size/gearing conversations:

    Tundra with stock gearing (4.30), stock tire size (~32's), and stock engine will turn ~1865 RPM's @ 70mph...that's your rough baseline.

    Tundra with stock gearing, 34's, and stock engine will turn ~1755 RPM's @ 70mph....about 100RPM's less than with 32's, which is noticeable but nothing drastic.

    Putting 4.88's on a Tundra w/ 34's would yield ~1992 RPM's....so certainly much better acceleration and torque delivery, but your mpg's will definitely suffer a bit.

    As was noted earlier, 4.88's probably make the most sense for anything between 35's and 40's. Below 35's, stock gearing should work just fine; the Tundra is actually considered over-geared compared to most other 1/2 tons. If you're running +1 or +2 tire size and you're worried about torque converter lockup, especially on hills or during tows, just put the transmission into manual mode and select the appropriate gear.

    Re-gearing will not increase your mpg's; it will, however, soften the mpg hit you'll take when moving to much bigger tires.

    Gear calculators aren’t that accurate. Your transmission ratio plays a big factor too. Tundras have tall 5th and 6th gears. I have 34s and 488s and my mpg went up in town and highway

    Was there a noticable improvement in the way the truck drives / accelerates? I have 34's and I'm having 4.88's installed next week. The decrease in performance has been very noticeable to me since the new tires were mounted.
