Stakehole Ham Radio Antenna Mount?

What's everyone using? I see a few on Amazon (Firestick stuff) but they look pretty flimsy and aren't well reviewed. Suggestions?

 

I used a Breedlove stake pocket mount on my last truck and it worked great. I can't use it this time, since I have a bed rack.

One concern that I should have mentioned in my first post is I'm running the OEM tri fold tonneau cover, and want to keep doing so. Looks to me like the Breedlove plate would probably interfere. Agree?





If so, I wonder if they'd grind down one of the two longer sides so the cover would clear. Hmm...

 

Bed covers always seem to screw up all of the cool things that people want to do . I've never used one or paid much attention to them, so I can't talk to any potential interference.

It holds this beefy boy well enough.

 

at one point I had the same firestik mount in all four stake holes....

 

These come ready to accept a 3/8x24 CB Antenna Stud.
On the passenger's side I drilled it out to accept an NMO mount. The two that were previously up by the cab were both drilled to accept UHF antenna mounts.

 

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up with a Breedlove #917, no modification required. Super high quality piece and the envy of all the hams at the local Ham Radio Outlet. Fits with just a hair of clearance for the weatherstripping of the cover, and with a hair of overhang on the outboard side due to the curve of the fender. Works for me!

In retrospect I should have grabbed the #918 (with SO-239 connection) rather than the ring terminal version (917). Easy enough to handle with an SO-239 to ring adapter (or by making my own) but would have been even easier just to screw the cable directly on.

 

Can you use a magnetic mount for ham? I have a Wilson for my CB. Would eliminate any holes..

 

You bet. Just do your research. Some mag mounts are better suited (from a transmit/receive perspective) than others. I chose not to so I didn't have a cable visible. I prefer a cleaner look.

 

I’m curious on where y’all run the wires out of the truck and to the bed. More or less out of the truck lol. Thanks for future pics and info.

 

There is a rubber plug under the driver seat. Cut a slit or hole in it and it works well for running the antenna wire to the bed. I probably have a picture on here somewhere.

 

Oh snap!! Never even knew about this said hole, only knew about the firewall ones!

 

Most of my Coax is between the roof and headliner (5 antennas drilled through the roof.)

The coax for the two antennas at the tail of the bed, both go through a grommet behind the drivers seat (just ahead of the gas tank.) (about lined up with the lever for the E-Brake)
