ESP Truck underseat storage

Yes, I cut the my husky liner and turned out great, see last two pix. I used a general purpose kitchen shears (scissors).

 

No matter what I decide this is gonna be me after I make a move, lol!

 

A couple of tips that might be helpful-

I used a kitchen bread knife to cut the styrofoam. The larger serrations produced less shredded mess I think, and helped me make straighter cuts.

If you want three wells and only need to secure small items, you can add a pistol safe. I used the cable to secure the safe to my seat frame (closest well in picture):

 

That's a good idea Panicman. Ideally, ESP would make one of these with 1 locking lid and two open wells, nice compromise.

 

Too bad ESP doesn't sell on eBay, I want to use eBay bucks or eBay discounts, but o well.

 

Or through credit card points system!

 

I cut my mats, but did not cut out the holes; I just cut a big X in it from corner to corner. That way the box push it down into the hole and it keeps the mat secure. I was also concerned about those end pieces pulling out and flapping around loosely.

 

Mine don't flap around.

 

I got mine during holiday discount and combined it with my credit card cash back to justify the cost, lol.

 

That's perfect, I need to look into maybe converting points to a gift card or something like that. The less pain I feel fixing this issue for Toyota the better.

 

I like my ESP. Only thing that sucks is that the brace where the footings fit into broke when I had to take my seats out. It’s not that noticeable. Should’ve held up better than that though.

 

I installed the plastic three bin ESP last month. First mod to a 7 day old truck. Spent a lot of time with a yellow crayon marking things before cutting. Once I made the cuts, I kept getting more and more surprised at how much freaking room is available under the carpet. Toyota just screwed the pooch under and behind the rear seat in the CM. ESP left a LOT of meat on the bone with the plastic storage. All three of the bins could be 2 or 3 inches wider and close to 10 inches longer (front to back). Could come close to doubling the volume of each bin.

I don't remember the measurements I did, but I do remember looking at the length front to back that was available and grabbed an AR pistol with a 11.5" barrel and laid it down, muzzle toward the bed, and briefly thought about abandoning the ESP and cutting a custom hole in the foam for the AR and just having a carpet flap over it. Not unappy with the plastic ESP in any way, but could have been soooo much better.

 

I think you give us all a good warning- when I have to remove my seats, the underseat storage comes out first!

 

I would use Toyota storage for DC. ESP for CM.

 

I just installed the ESP open plastic storage try in my 2019 CM as well. I'm happy with the extra storage space but am a little disappointed with the installation process considering the price of the tray.

After cutting out the template I did a test fit with the underside of the tray and the cutouts were not at all the same size as the three bins. I had to close in the backside of cutouts quite a bit. The alignment references aren't great either as the bolts on the seat brackets might not be centered.

I would advise placing the template very carefully with consideration to the overall space not just the seat bracket bolts. Make sure to test fit the template on the tray and as others have mentioned cut the holes undersized.

 

Probably a very dumb question but if you have the 38 gallon gas tank can you still install this storage box? What I am asking is part of the tank up under the seat or is foam under under the carpet like your pictures show?

 

I've got hte 38 gallon tank and no issues. You're good to go. Foam and carpet are on the top side of the metal, gas tank is under the metal floor.

 

And beware that there is a top and a bottom to the template. The two outer bins are not the same.

 

Did you cut into those Hunsky Liners???

 

Yes. They were only a day old. Scary to do, but it worked out good. I did not cut out holes; just big "X"s at each bin and folded it down into the holes. See post#68

 

Can you please share a pic of the final install?

 

Just to clarify based on my experience- under the carpet there is a large expanse of gray styrofoam. It seems to be one solid piece. When you cut through the foam and remove the pieces, you’ll see the metal floor covered in a sound deadening material. There are no wires, bolt heads, etc... in the places you have to cut to install the storage insert. I have the 38 gallon tank and it did not prevent the installation.

 

The ESP bin looks deeper than I originally thought. Thanks to all for posting pics!

 

I think it is just over 4" deep; 4-1/4" if I remember correctly. The ESP bins is probably one of the most useful mods on my truck - I really like it.

 

JUST AN UPDATE FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING

Just purchased the $200 plastic unit directly from the ESP website and the coupon code TNDRASDTCM is still "alive & well". Cost came the $179.99 with free shipping and no tax at least for Arizona. Thanks to whomever posted the coupon code years ago.
