Possible Issues with ICON suspension

So I originally had a spacer lift that resulted in squeaking oem shocks after 15k miles. Last December I decided to swap my stock suspension with an ICON stage 2 and TC arms. Everything was great up until two weeks ago when my rear started to squeak. Rear shocks and leafs are ICON. I can’t figure out where the heck the noise is coming from, but I did notice my leafs are all over the place. Is this normal? It’s only been two months with this setup

 

Do you know, were these put on so the sides of the leafs didn't line up, and tightened that way? If not, it looks like they're loose?

We're those spacer shim round things part of the pack or added? ("anti friction pads". Thanks, @YZTundy)

Usually its the anti friction pads, I would try to put grease on all the pads and see if that helps.

 

The round things I believe were part of the pack. I also think they’re loose, but I don’t know enough to say if that’s normal or not.

 

The shackle looks twisted on the right side frame mount. Almost as if the bushing is popped out too. Something isn’t lined up correctly on the leaf pack. Most likely it’s not seated properly on the axle. I suggest you take the entire leaf spring off and ensure that everything is lined up correctly when tightening back down.

 

After two months? I have not gone off roading with this setup yet, although we have had a lot of rain here lately.

 

Yeah, I'm just learning but this weekend watched a suspension install and saw the leafs kinda fanned out a bit when attached, then needed to be smacked from the side so each side lined up in a neat stack. Then tightened together.

It was SoCal supertrucks in San Bernardino. I do have an appointment Saturday for a re-torque on the suspension but I want to make sure I’m well educated by you guys on this stuff so I can bring it up.

It wouldn't be uncommon, the anti friction pad is made out of a hard plastic that is resting on the leafs that can cause a squeak. Not saying that the pads are bad or worn out might just need a little lube.

 

Here's a pic of my Icon RXT leafpack. (Ignore the Red Circles.) They do shift from side to side. As for the squeeking, mine start squeeking after every wheeling trip. I just blast water between the leafs and it goes away.

 

Lithium grease and have SoCal adjust the leaf pack so it's clamped straight. They will squeak from time to time but that's kinda part of it. Flex, dirt, water, salt, all contribute to this not to mention any other chemical on roads.

 

I washed it down over the weekend and the squeak is still there. Yours look straighter than mine. So you’re saying the shifting is normal?

 

Mine is like that too. Just one side though.

There was some squeaking on both sides. I pretty much sprayed down both sides with CRC dry moly lube and the squeak is gone. I also went on the trail this past weekend and still no squeak.

 

Right on. I ordered some of that for my control arms last week and it arrived Saturday. I paid 11 and it’s now $9

I recommend checking the ubolts. It's likely that they are a few pounds short of the torque spec. Which is why most shops offer a retorque after 100-500 miles because of the nature of the material.
To address the issue crack the ubolts loose a turn or 2 and tap the leafs back into alignment. Then torque the bolts to spec and be sure to check the torque multiple times in a cross pattern to insure that are all torques correctly and your issue should be resolved. Be sure to do one side at a time to avoid the axle housing rotating on you.

 

Is this something I'm going to run into on a constant basis, meaning are the leafs going to be moving to the sides? Or will the next adjustment and torque take care of the issue permanently? I didn't have this issue with the stock leafs. Thanks.

 

A retorque should fix the issue permanently.

 

Let me resurrect this old thread... My pack doesn't taper like this. My leaf that is shipped out of the pack was installed in the spot Icon recommended, but is a little shorter than the one under it, so it looks a bit staggered. Is this the correct way, or should they all get shorter as the go down? I called Icon tech support, they verified it was correct, just doesn't look right to me.

I've got the same issue after moving to the Add a Leaf for 750# load. Annoying after spending this kind of money for ICON 3.0 for the truck to sounds like a 1970's rusted-out Ford. Ans it is constant. I've tried T-9 and blowing out the areas with a power washer.

My RxT pack looks like that too. I installed it as is from stock config. Started squeaking this weekend now too. Was fine for the past 1,500 miles. Had a day in dusty roads then washed it now it squeaks. However that wasn’t an issue with my stock pack.

 

I think that’s just the nature of icons leaf springs. Probably not what you want to hear. I replaced mine with deaver u748 over a year ago and no squeaks. I did have an issue with popping but figured out that one of the rebound clips on the leaf spring was loose and flapping back and forth.

 

yea disappointing for sure. I thought I was upgrading my leaf pack ‍♂️
