Elevation matters to the MAF. Good luck and hope it works!

    Well....

On my second attempt to start it at the house today....crank crank crank crank. Took three tries yet again.

I ordered a new MAF from Napa and will pick up this week, will let you know.

Man I hate throwing parts at stuff without a clear answer. But I have gotten lucky many times in the past from gut feelings.

Unless I missed it, did you answer whether or not you are flex fuel?

Sorry about that. Not Flex fuel.

New MAF like $90, if it works it's great. If it doesn't....well I have a new MAF and next stop will be dealership (dread). It's still got some warranty I believe.

Maybe someone had asked this before... when it does finally start after the cranking issue, does the engine initially run any different that when the problem does not occur? Is there any hesitation or rough idle?

@Snowboard Tundra I'm having the same issue with my 2015 with 85k. It has happened inconsistently but almost exclusively in Cold Weather. Has happened in Mississippi and Maryland over the last 12 months. When it misses, it has never failed to eventually start, but it takes on average 3-4 attempts. i haven't found a solution yet. Following to find out what to try next. Mine is an FFV though. I have seen it mentioned above about the TSB being put out for a fix similar to these issues but i haven't seen anyone report back confirming that resolved it.

Just wanted to provide an update. Prior to making appointment with dealership I wanted to try one final thing. I ran 2 bottles of fuel injector cleaner through the truck....since that time (about 2 weeks ago) I have had no issues starting the truck. At the house, in the high country it fires the first time every time and even in the extreme cold we have had recently.

Not sure how this $20 fix will last but it seems to be going great so far.

Wonder if something weird like injectors being stuck and leaking out when parked.

Do you think there’s a possibility that that stuff could contaminate the oil? Whenever I’ve ran any fuel system treatment I tried to run it near the end of the oil life cycle so that I would be putting in fresh oil soon. I only did this because I was slightly paranoid it would break down my oil somehow someway.

No mostly just hearsay. But I’ve never heard anything bad about seafoam. It was put into my head from a buddy who over thinks everything but he’s pretty mechanically inclined. I was using Lucas fuel system cleaner injector cleaner stuff. Just something he threw out there.

It depends on if its being used in your gas vs oil.

For gas its not an issue since you're going to burn it up. For oil use it will remain in the system.

I believe seafoam states to use it for about 2 weeks for oil applications. Other than that i dont remember there being any other application that mentions any restrictions.

Optima batts are actually AGM, not gell.
    Just to clarifying.

Has anyone found a definitive solution to this? Happened to me for the first time today in high elevation.

After watching the video...when your truck finally started after a long crank, I noticed it was running very rich and idle rough for a couple a second. This is a sign of bad leaky injectors. They are flooding your engine and that is why you are having problem starting. Need to replace INJECTORS.

The OP found a definitive solution to his problem. See post #43 above. Easy and low cost solution if your problem is caused by the same fault as the OPs.

I know its an old post, but this also sounds similar to the 'fuel pump recall' symptoms.

Love it when someone tells you what you need to do, (not the solution) long after you found the solution and reported the fix. And thanks to the OP for not leaving everyone hanging how he fixed it.
