Bed Rust

Has anyone had issues with their bed rusting/bubbling? I have a 2006 and the rust is in line with the bed bracing.

 

Is it coming up from underneath?

 

Yep on my 08 .dealing with it now .

 

Mine isn’t that bad yet. But yes @bmf4069 its blistering up and flaking away the paint away. The way it looks it’s coming from around the bed support because they are spaced out like the bed support should be.

 

That was after grinding it down. This was before grinding on it .

 

I would take a look underneath at your frame. It may be coming from there.

Didn’t Toyota have a recall on their frames or was it only for Tacoma’s?

 

White paint is more severely effected. The metallic colors have more coats, plus a very nice primer base.

Get some Ospho to neutralize the rust. If its bad, cut it out and weld or flex adhesive a new piece in place.

 

Hate to tell you this but that is defiantly worse under the paint. you could try to save it but like my body guy said better off not to chance it .Cut it out and put new. He also said to remove the bed and put upside down and sand blast the hole underside then coat it. Then get line-x in the bed after. Mine is defiantly from the bed rails .Water gets in between And gets traped their.

 

I have actual rust holes in the bed of my 00. it happens.

 

@Mnorris1206 yeah I had a body shop look at it. He was going to cut the spots out and replace it then I planned on getting a spray on bed liner. I was hoping Toyota had a recall on that haha. It doesn’t help living in Illinois either.

 

Indiana is horrible for salt on the roads a lot of buddies wont even drive their trucks in the winter any more. Sad part is I dont mine much at all. And still have thos issue .But save your receipts is what I have been told they may someday have a recall and of they do they may give you a refund. Lol we will see how that goes .

 

Yeah that’s the bad thing is it’s my everyday vehicle lol. I will keep my receipts then and cross the fingers. I appreciate all the feedback fellas!
