Good luck! I'm sure that it will turn out nicely as long as you don't rush it

Very pleased with the way it came out. Color match is spot-on. Going to give the clear coat sometime to harden before I install . Maybe a day or two . Next on the list is the door handles. And then I think I will have the confidence to do the Bulge and bumper caps.

Very nice! Looks a lot better than some of the other color-match attempts I've seen.

I got the paint from here.

    http://www.automotivetouchup.com

Here is a screenshot of my order. I actually ordered one more clear coat because once you pop the can it is only good for the day. And I think I ordered one more of the Cement This should be enough to do my mirror caps , door handles, bumper caps, Grill surround and bulge. I added up what it would take to purchase the pieces prefinished from Sparks and Toyota and we were over $2,000 because Cement is a surcharge.

For that cost, could a shop have done it for less? Before I had my shop, I was getting bumpers sprayed for $100... Either way, nice work man.

Thanks man. The paint I bought is enough to do mirror caps, door handles, Grill surround, bulge and bumper caps. I did get quotes to paint everything and it was between $1,200 to $1,600 at different shops. I figure $200 in paint and supplies and my own labor to save over $1,000 is worth it IMO. Plus with me doing it myself I get to pay direct attention to detail.

After I get off work and get some time to write up the process I will post it to my original post. Thanks for the interest I believe it is well worth it. That is if you'd like to get rid of your Chrome for a reasonable price.

Stock for now, but have TRD Rear Sway bar for it.
I understand the whole process. I just want to know what you used to sand your chrome caps with. 400 grit knock down to scuff up or what. I have a platinum edition and am looking to do the same thing. I plastidipped my mirrors black for now, but want to color match. Also bought black door handles to color match and the grill,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,omg. Lol. Thanks.

    LOOKS GREAT BY THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks man. I tried 320 first but didn't seem to be coarse enough for me. So I went with 120 for a nice deep scuff and then I worked it up to 800. Just make sure you get a nice dull finish on the whole cap . Then I laid my primer down three coats wet sanding with a thousand in between each coat. Pay special attention to the edges of the Caps because there is a slight micro rise along the edge that would not allow the Sandpaper to scuff along the edge. Also I sanded everything by hand.

Looks great! So I also color matched my mirror backs and panted my handles black...yes way cheaper than buying the color matched pieces. Used paint from touch up direct and it was a great match with my quicksand. For what its worth I did a lot of research and it seemed many folks had problems with paint holding up over the chrome and that more than not paint shops would not paint over the chrome. Not trying to scare you and hopefully it holds up. However...if you decide to de chrome the pieces and start with the stripped plastic peroxide and muriatic acid at 2:1 is your friend. dump it in a rubber maid container or 5 gallon bucket, drink a 6 pack, come back 3 hours later, pull them out wash them with water...done. Wear rubber gloves, the ones under the sink for cleaning, if you would like to keep your skin. I plan on doing the bulge and surround too, just need to figure an appropriate shaped container to strip them in. Bumper ends are a different story, either need to take to a chrome plater and have them stripped or sand/media blasted off.

Thanks man and thanks for the advice. I was going to use the method you suggested with the muriatic acid but didn't want to deal with waste disposal. I think I knocked down the chrome enough and with the adhesion promoter for plastic it was a really good base to start with. But of course time will tell but I am confident it will hold up. And yea for the bumper ends I have a sand blaster to knock them down with.

Mirror caps are installed. And it looks just as good as I hoped it would. Door handles are next. But now I have a conundrum. Guy on my Facebook group Florida Tundra Crew also did his mirror caps color matched this weekend but he did his door handles black instead of color match. I really like the way it looks. The last picture is his in desert sand.

Either will look good, especially against Cement. I bought black ones to paint Barcelona Red, but just installed them black for now and really like the look. If you have to paint or are going to paint, do them in cement to match, can always do black over them later, or buy black ones. I lucked out and found a set on eBay cheap.

@Napvid How are these mirrors holding up now that it's been a couple of years?

I tried color matching the front grill and bulge with their paint, and it didn't match at all. Somehow yours looks pretty damn amazing though!
