285/65/20 On Stock Rims With No Lift?

Like the title says,I want a more aggressive tire that will fill in the wheel wells without a lift/level.I would also like to add spacers to the stock rims to improve the stance.Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice.

I don't have an 18 but I believe all Tundras 07+ are 5x150

 

if you try to use wheel spaces with a 34.5" tire and no lift, you are going to severely rub. you might be able to make that size tire work with no spacers, but you will be doing alot of trimming. you will have better luck with a 285/60/20 tire.

 

Thanks for the info.I want to avoid lifting so my thought was that maybe spacers would allow a 285/65/20 tire to clear.

 

I'm running 285/55r20 without a level or lift on a 2017 2wd. It's close, but zero rubbing at any time. 285/65 will definitely rub.

 

Wheel spacers make the turning clearance worse. Don't use spacers and stick to 285/60/20.

 

Thanks Netmonkey.I had a 285/34.5" tire on my previous truck (Duramax) and really liked the way they looked.I want to keep all the radar/safety features working properly which is why I am holding off on a lift.

 

i have heard of some lifted 2018 tundras having issues with the TSS feature, but i think most people just disable it? but i also know that there are guys lifting their 2018's with no issues. have a chat with the guys at toytec lifts (https://www.tundras.com/forums/toytec-lifts.24/). they might have a better insight into the issues and solutions. the tire size that you want is totally reasonable with a 2 inch lift.

 

Yes,it's looking like I will need a lift to fit the 285/65/20 tires with the wheel spacers.

 

Late reply. But I have a 3" leveling kit on front. Nothing on back . Running 295/65/R20 on Toyo A/T Xtreme's. No issues. No spacers needed .Stock platinum 20's. Only when I go full crank to the right and reverse, then it's a tiny rub..... So idk...

 

No worries Vlad.My truck goes to the dealership on Wednesday to have my Bilstein 5100s installed.I will be using the top setting which should give me approximately 2.25" of lift.As a compromise I think I will be going with a 275/65/20 tire which is about 34" tall.Also,I may ask the tire shop to try a 285/65/20 and see if there is any rubbing.They have a 30 day return policy so if they don't work then I can drop down to the 275/65/20s.

 

@plumber802 which tire size ended up working for you? I’m getting the bilsteins 5100 done next week on the front 2.5” nothing on the rear, currently have 285/55/20 but want to go to a taller tire...

 

I have a 2018 with a 3/2 lift and 295/60/20’s. All of my tss features work perfect.

 

I have 275/65/20's on my truck with Bilstein 5100's on the top setting with mine. I still had to do some trimming and hot gunning to get them to fit. I do not have spacers but you will definitely have rubbing.

 

@onetohunt after you did all of that did you still have rubbing? Also Do you have any pics where you did the trimming?

 

I still had a small amount in reverse only. I had to use the hot gun some more and finally got it taken care of. I don't have any pics at the present but will take some tomorrow in the daylight and post them up.

your welcome, one thing I failed to mention, I have these on 20x9 vision wheels with a +12 offset.

 

Can I see a pic of your truck? I am running a 3/1 RC leveling kit on a 2018 CM. Factory XP Wheels 20x9. Running the factory 275 55 20s until they wear out.

You have no rubbing?

Did you have to remove any of your mud flaps?

Stock TRD 20 inch wheels at + 60 offset. Had to bend the skid plate and remove front Mud flaps, but it still rubbed on the sway bar. So I got 1.25 spacers and that took care of the sway bar rub, but caused a front wheel well liner rub. So i had to heat gun the front wheel well liner a little and now its all good, no rubbing. I use my Radar cruise control every day and all the other Safety features work fine too

no problem.. i guess the takeaway from my rambling is,if you have the correct offset all you might have to do is remove front mud flaps and do some minor heat gun work. What is the offset of the TSS wheels?

stock UCA, but before I used the spacers the tires were Way too close for comfort

 

Right I think I've seen this picture before! I have the SPCs, wheel spacers, and bumper spacers so hopefully serious cutting can be avoided.

 

My stock TSS wheels are +50 offset. I reslly Don’t want to change my rims so to understand a lower number offset is better?

 

Yea, I posted before i got my spacers. It looks like you should be fine... I am thinking about putting in the bumper spacer after these tires wear out and maybe bump up a size.

 

Well, not necessarily better it depends on the look you are going for and the fit you need. Essentially the lower the number the further the tire will stick out(I think.. i am no expert). but the lower offsets could just bring different problems like more rubbing in the front bumper.
Just for an example, My Wheels are +60mm. I added a 1.25 inch(32MM) spacer that would bring them to about a +28MM.but that also pushed the wheel out and closer to the bumper when i turn..
If i am talking out of my ass someone can chime in and correct me.. but thats my understanding.
