“Raccoons love fresh fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, marshmallows, bacon, cat food, fish, birdseed, and canned tuna. What food do raccoons like the most? Raccoons have a sweet tooth and are attracted to sugary foods like marshmallows, but they also love savory snacks like bacon, cat food, and fish”

Whatever you do, don't use the powdered fly killer mixed with coke to kill coons. The local feed mill couldn't sell the fly killer until the local DNR officer placed a warning sign stating it's illegal to poison coons with fly killer mixed with sweet soft drinks right above the fly killer powder. Now they sell it!

Peanut butter or a can of tuna, works great in live traps.

I use marshmallows. You need to block access to the bait from outside the trap or they’ll get it without going in the trap. I used landscape blocks since they were convenient. Put a couple marshmallows leading to the trap, one at the entrance and a couple in the bait area.

They are only allowed to be released on the property where they are caught on in my state. They must be recycled into buzzard breakfast.

We used peanut butter and dog food. Works great, just make sure you anchor the trap and put the food is towards the back where they can't reach through the sides to grab it. Also a trick I learned from a neighbor, if there are skunks in the area as well. Tie a good length of rope in case you need to drag it off somewhere to take care of business. Anchor the rope as well, raccoons will pull it all in the trap. What are they getting into? They were straight tearing our bird feeders to peices...not no more

We had a raccoon problem at our last house with the dog food (it was outside in a large sealed metal bin). We removed the temptation and the problem went away.

Technically it's illegal to relocate wildlife but I've been known to take squirls, coons, possums, and a couple woodchucks off my property to their new home a couple miles and across the river to a conservation area

A well made hamburger and quality fries will get me almost any time. Make it a sure thing by adding a glass of good bourbon.

I was kinda thinking a well-done steak and poutine would work. Glad I asked.

Steak works, but not well done. Make it medium -rare.

Poutine will make me stuff a stray alley cat in the trap. Filthy stuff, a sacrilegious quebecois desecration of French fries.

It was all cute and shit till one got on the boat and took a dump

I think they are coming from the marina on the other side of our peninsula. Buncha semi abandoned pontoon boats appear to provide ample living quarters

I was using catfish food. Caught 2

    now using marshmallows.

I am dealing with a James Bond coon. As he has alluded the trap twice

come to find out the previous coon sabotaged the trap by bending the trigger plate

I’m going full Rambo now. The coon that alludes is in the one that gets on the boat

trap now has a hair trigger!

Not at lake till Friday. Will catch the sob that night

The coon eluding you is Marcus. He's a clever one but an arrogant little shit about it. He like popcorn, caramel and those multi-colored marshmallows mixed together.

Let me know if you get him. If you do, give him a boot in the tail and tell him I say he's a no good possum.

Those live traps fit into a 55 gallon drum filled with water. We trap skunks with smelly fish bait. Stinky wet cat food works good too. After the skunk is inside the trap, it gets covered with a canvas tarp & dropped into the barrel of water to drown them. Keep the tarp on top so you don’t get sprayed. More humane than shooting them. It will work for raccoons too. People forget raccoons & skunks carry rabies. Don’t need that kind of vermin around pets or kids.

How do you figure drowning is more humane? Genuine question on the thought process behind it.

I used to do home health nursing. One guy would trap squirrels and release them across the river in another town. Another guy in that town would catch them and release them across the river in the first town mentioned

I ponder this as well. A well placed bullet is damn near instant. It's not really enjoyable either way, the quicker the better. Depends on the area as well, can't exactly shot a gun in a neighborhood without Karen raising an alarm

You ever shoot something that lived? It’s ghastly to have to watch it crying & wiggle & then have to shoot it again. & with skunks drowning helps controlled the odor. Yes a well placed bullet does wonders but if the damn thing moves right when you shoot it could be a miss. Drowning is a sure thing.

Yes, I have. It sucks, but it makes me careful. There's a chance that shooting could be painful, but I figure drowning will certainly be painful, and prolonged.

Not judging. Just stating my view on it.
