I got you. We also have them on the shelf here at Hotshot Offroad

6112 has a new banded piston for more consistent valving - New "super spacers" which are just essentially a new/more robust internal spacer design - The black labelling for a branding change - Body now has a clear coat on it.

5160 has the same new clearcoat and decal treatment as the 6112s plus - there’s now a billet clamp that affixes the reservoir to the shock body. Some have been shipping with frame mounts for some applications now. The endcap design has changed and fittings have changed. Design change is intended to increase long-term durability against leaking.

They alluded to some valving changes, but didn't expand on them. Having been around them all I don't notice anything.

Has anyone got pics sitting on 285/70/r18? Been searching trying to see what it looks. Just got a 2017 crew cab in quicksand.

@AKMI I somehow looked rt past your post…that’s exactly what I was wanting to see. What clip did you run your 6112’s on?
Since those tires (285/70/r16) are 10lbs. lighter a piece than the 295/70/16 that most seem to be running I was wondering if you noticed much difference from your stock setup? Acceleration, mpg?

I'm running 285/70/18 on my truck. Clips at #3 (1.9"). So far I have used 3/4 of a tank. Getting 13.5 mpg. I can tell the gas pedal is little bit sluggish. But at the end of the day she's a truck not a race car. I don't mind it at all. If you want to hit it hard put her in tow mode. I will say the suspension is amazing.

@therealjonwick what all is entailed in the tune? I went on their site but just says they’ve been acquired by yotaworkz.

Ah I didn’t know that. Must be a recent development. I started when I had my Tacoma. The tune revolutionized that engine. Doesn’t do as much for the tundra. Did improve throttle lag. Has 3 settings for throttle. It also beefs up the tow mode. Better mapping. Also is octane learning so you can run 87+ and it will work it out. Also opens up for more add-ons down the road. I’ll have to reach out to Dave on Tacoma world and see what’s up with the buyout.

@memario1214 Any help appreciated! Also, these are thoughts in my head now on paper. :bananadead:

I have 38k on my current set of tires and looking to upgrade in stages as I buy new rubber. I was thinking of adding the lift now and buying the wheels/tire setup when time comes due. Based on what I gathered from this thread below, am I on the right path?

Needs: DD and I look to tow a TT (~5-6k lbs.) in the next year or so for family vacations, that info should be helpful. Also not looking to level, rake is ok because of future towing.

    Current:
    -Stock suspension
    -20" OE wheels :(
-KO2 275/65/20. Larger(taller) than stock but too skinny for my liking so I was gearing toward 285 being a DD.

    Suspension kit desired:
-Order now to pair with current wheels/tires (step 1 in a sense)
    -6112/5160, 1.9", assembled.
    https://hotshotoffroad.com/collecti...kits/products/6112-5160-lift-kit-07-21-tundra
-Coachbuilder Strut (x1) .50" of lift to FL tire.
    https://shop-coachbuilder.myshopify...ilder-strut-coilover-shim-provides-50-of-lift

-Coachbuilder +2 Shackle. is this needed? (some rake is ok, towing in the future)
    https://shop-coachbuilder.myshopify...ilder-2-shackles-provides-1-25-of-actual-lift
-Edit: or do I consider the RAS system (or both), @RobertD had the suggestion.

    Wheel/Tire desired:
-Order when KO2 rubber is worn out (step 2)
    -SCS Ray 10 18x9 +25mm 5x150
    https://www.stealthcustomseries.com/collections/toyota/products/ray10?variant=26571894083
-Wildpeak A/T4W, size is where I am stuck. Not looking to do any modifications, have an RCI Skid (no rub) there.
-Considering: 285/75/18 or 295/70/18, due to E rating (towing). I wish the 285/70/18 was E rated, I would likely go with that.

How heavy is the TT? If you aren't off roading a lot, you might be fine with 5100 in the rear. Have you considered adding the RAS to the rear as well?

Thanks for the quick reply and very patient, so feel free to message when you can and enjoy your trip!
I was considering that being an option as well, almost included it in my post. I would venture to say no more than ~5-6k lbs., maybe lighter depending on brand/need, haven't done a great deal of research yet but nothing over the top.

Will most likely have to modify with both those tire sizes. Maybe less with adjustable control arms. Remove mud-flaps, some trimming. If you want to do minimal modifications go 285/70/18. But 295 do look perfect. Some have had to do BMC.

Maybe plausible with the +25 wheel? However, I am completely open to suggestions with what I'm looking to achieve (which is nothing crazy).

    BMC, neverrary.

Edit: unless guided differently, probably what I'll end up with based on what I've been reading: 295/70/18.

Alright here we go. Not as much for me to have to chatter through though as I look at it in depth!

Purchasing the suspension before the rubber is likely the correct order of events, and the most typical. That said, at a fundamental level a lift will not make fitting a tire any easier. Sure, when in a straight line or when the suspension is not flexed a lift can allow for more clearance. However, when compressed, that pesky tire is the same size when it's tucked up in that wheel well. The LCA and it's interaction with the body is unchanged with a coilover setup.

As far as the rear lift goes you'll just have to be realistic with your use. If you are only towing a handful of times per year, and pretty much all of the rest of the time you are empty or lightly loaded then a CB shackle will do you just fine. Sure, you don't get any additional support when you're towing, but you'll be able to enjoy the articulation benefits that come with a free moving leaf pack. If you do plan to tow/haul a decent amount of times then we're big fans of the RAS kit. When installed, it'll give you .75-1" of additional ride height. When you are unloaded you'll largely not know it is there, and when you do tow then the kit kicks into gear and supports your leaf pack directly. The downside to these kits is that they do act as a bit of a limit strap in that you'll lose a little bit of your maximum downtravel in the rear. Is that the end of the world? For primarily a pavement pounder I don't see that as a problem, but we all have our desired outcomes in terms of utility vs performance.

As for tire size, I can tell you this - I personally have a 295/70/18 on a +25 wheel. I love the look, and think it's about perfect for the Tundy. That said, I can confidently say that in order for me to achieve full articulation and no contact in all scenarios both forward and reverse I had to cut back the cab mount. Your only potential workaround would be to purchase a UCA that has adjustment at the UCA itself (think SPC, Icon billet, etc). That way your alignment tech could push your cams as far forward as possible to clear that area, and then the alignment would be dialed in at the UCA. I can't confirm even this is the way, but you'd need to do SOMETHING there. My $.02 is to cut back that cab mount so that you can clear your new meats and be able to tell everyone how badass you are because you cut the frame on your 2021 truck! Seriously though do what you want.

Regardless of the path you go we can help out. We also have coachbuilder stuff on the shelf. It's on my list of things to add to the site this week!

The vibration is most likely coming from the carrier bearing. A CB drop is an easy and quick fix for that.
