Just a little...I will say this...

The JBL sounds MUCH better if you use a source that is uncompressed...like a FLAC file...really wakes the system up...CarPlay (at least wirelessly) doesn't have near the sound quality of anything wired or full bit-rate...

so you noticed a touch as well?

and I mainly use Apple Lossless for a source simply for the convenience, but what you describe is always the case, even with my high quality aftermarket system in my last truck, source is most important thing.

Ill have to give a FLAC file a try for grins, never really messed around with that so far

It was immediately noticeable on CarPlay Lossless...

Sorry if it's already been answered but I know what you could be doing wrong. If you simply copy and pasted the .zip file it ain't gonna work, either decompress the file and copy the .json and readme and other stuff and paste it to a formatted USB (FAT32). There is nothing wrong with your USB drive the fact that your truck is warning you means that it recognizes the data lanes but simply cant decompress the .zip folder to read the files that grant you the update. Hope that helps.

ok, I guess Im not losing my mind, I was riding around after the update and I was thinking, ok, something is a bit different with the front crossover position.

it takes a good experinced ear and high quality source to tell, but it was apparent to me, the fronts were not trying to hit 20hz, lol

The front mids/woofers still play low, but not as low as they use to try...

I'm having issues as well, after installing 2050..
.....system reboots frequently. Screen goes dead, after 5+ seconds it restarts as if you just turned the truck on.
.....I didn't subscribe to anything when my trial period ended, so when I start the truck IF it loads AA, more times than not it stays on the navigation subscription screen.
.....occasionally when starting up it will not load AA, have to turn truck off and restart.

Talked to service yesterday and there's no way to un-install 2050.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the "Entry" and "Premium" units? Is it based off JBL or just 8 vs 14in screens?

    Entry - Non-JBL or Entry = 8"
    Premium - JBL or Premium = 14"

At least that is my assumption...I have yet to see any documentation that calls out what each means...

The 8" doesn't come with JBL, as far as I remember, so it might be 8" v. 14"...

Has anyone with the 8” received an update beyond 1040?
Curious if they are available and if they actually improve CarPlay connectivity. 2 out of 5 times i have to reboot the head unit or restart the truck to get it to connect.

Well, after writing this post, this morning had an OTA Update to 2050. CarPlay definitely connects faster.

Dealer updated my head unit, and now im getting errors when trying to connect toyota remote services, wont let me connect to the app at all. Accidentally hit the software update tab and it spammed that their was errors updating until it threw a PCS warning light on my dash and i had to reset the unit with the volume knob. A full reset through the screen did nothing. Looks like a trip back to the dealer is in order….(after 10 days in for a diff) :annoyed:

Thank you for answering. I went to the vehicle and got the info from the truck. Then went to the update website. It downloaded the update on the USB. When I plugged it into the truck that’s when the problem started. In my infinite wisdom, I reformatted the USB thinking I could redownload the update. Only to see your vehicle has the latest version.

Since I did the update about 2 weeks ago my unit has been resetting randomly while driving. Radio has been shutting off and on. And Apple CarPlay has not been letting me go into it after reconnecting. Anyone else seeing this issue?

I use CarPlay with Google maps in satellite view almost 100% of the time while driving. Since updating to 2050, I've notice that certain areas with poor cell service will no longer display the Google Maps views like they did before. I've also experienced occasional radio cutoffs since updating. That never happened before.

So far, I haven't noticed any positive improvements with 2050, only new minor glitches.

Ive noticed for sure now that Ive driven more, at least using lossless Apple source, they tweaked the crossover for the fronts, its at least 80hz I bet now, maybe before it wasnt crossed over and they were relying on the natural roll off of the mid driver or something or it was at like 40-60, but it is in fact different

I've noticed much more "thumping bass" from the front door speakers with the upgrade for sure.

Nope. I still have to manually mute the radio before I select the incoming text.
