My red 22 tundra is horrid for sun glare at certain hours of the day. It’s so bad that even with tinted front windshield and sunglasses on I still feel the need to hold my hand up to block the beam from the bends of the hood.

So, decided to have this matte black wrap installed and cut-in the body lines of the hood where the glare is most prominent. Figured I’d share in case anyone was experiencing same thing and looking for a fix without covering the entire hood as I’ve never personally liked the hood fully wrapped.

Also, here’s a pic of what the hood looks like inside.

Looks good. That cowl area is what really blinds me in my celestial silver.

That looks really great. I drive East in the AM and West in the PM...right into the sun everyday during my daily drives. I will say that it's like the Toyota Engineers purposefully designed the hood to catch the sun! hahaha

I'm assuming you had a shop do this for you? I wonder if they made a template cut file or if they hand cut it? They could make bank off selling the cut file.

Yes, shop here in Pelham Alabama did it. $250. No cut file as it was hand cut in on the hood from the full wrap material they have on rolls.

Toyota should know better after all these years building cars.
I have bad interior sun glare from the chrome parts or trims near the shifter. I have to cover it with a cap or something.
I need to wrap or paint them one of these days and charge stupid Toyota for time and $. But I'm being nice since they are busy working on fixing the cam tower seep ... for the past decade.

That looks really good. I could see that being done just for the looks alone! I happened to catch the sun while driving West earlier this week; it was terrible!! I've never experienced glare from a hood like that before. I have the metallic grey so I don't think it would look near as good as on red :(

Doesn't matter how simple, at face value, this would look like a first grade art project if I tried lmao!

This may be a very easy job for someone to diy. I paid 250 and took the guys (3 different hands touched it) about 35 minutes start to finish. I had the truck right in front of me as I watched and waited. They used a special knife to cut it and did an excellent job.

As for me to do it myself, it would likely take me 2 tries so I just let the pros handle it.

Good call. If the price is good then the pros are the way to go. If alot can be saved, even with a redo then DIY it is.

Tks for sharing this. I too have suffered the morning sun glare off the valleys in the hood! I think this is the perfect fix.

Might be cool instead to use a matte clear film instead of a completely different color. That way it won't glare but also won't stick out and look like fangs on your hood.

Someone on here did their whole army green hood in a green matte due to glare. Probably film but not sure. I believe it was posted on the Army Green thread.

    That's a great idea @DexterL. I'll consider that too.
Wonder if anyone has done that and how it turned out?

This is probably the way to go instead of body color, especially since the shops will be more likely to have this stuff in stock.

The glare for me was terrible. Thought of a different approach than wrapping the hood. I had the local tint shop add a strip to the bottom of the window. Went with the dark (05) limo tint. I made it just high enough to cover the glare. It looks a bit funky from the outside, but on the inside is all business. I'm 6 3", had to make the tint strip a bit tall, 6 inches. For most folks you can get away with a few inches shorter. The black area on the lower part of the window makes it appear huge. It was inexpensive and easy to remove. And it works.IOpTnFbMPdtpVTqP-Hhks3ZS75AGwo_p_SUqACQZ_6bae83baf0c24ae7cbdb16d4fddd8ec2c939f3ae.jpgPSzvi6DxTWsqz9tFebjKToD5ZaArKkaFUSMsRfRc_d1328f9686dba4585a559c5a6f45b86c7b143ef5.jpg
