    Many on the way.
The 1958 Edition at $56k is the only version I would consider.

Totally agree that the Land Cruiser needed something else over the 4runner. But if Toyota did put the TTV6 in there, what would entice someone to buy it over the GX550 and or the other way around? I do think the Land Cruiser looks better than the new 4runner though. If I didn’t need a truck I’d buy a GX550 over the Land Cruiser or 4runner. That much money and I’m getting Lexus for sure

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
The GX550 will still be more luxury oriented, a properly equipped Land Cruiser might cannibalize GX sales but probably not as many as you think given the real differences in interior quality.

For those of us with no Lexus dealer within 300 miles, and a local Toyota dealer within 50 miles it would be a nice option to get a Land Cruiser that had the good bits on it instead of what is on offer.

As it stands right now my choices are a 1/2 baked 3rd Gen Tundra for too much money, a Land Cruiser that I’m not thrilled with, a 1/2 baked Sequoia, or driving 300-500 miles to find a GX550 and a similar drive anytime it needs work. I will be keeping my 2nd Gen Tundra so I don’t have to buy a truck.

Not super happy with my choices of vehicles that I can buy and service locally.

I’m waiting for IIHS but are the circle headlights worse than the rectangle headlights?

I think I ruffled feathers on fb. I’m going to flip my blue FE and probably buy the LC trim + premium option. It gives everything the FE has except the mudflaps and basket and has the better (to me) looking headlights. It’s also $67k. Pretty sure the FE at $76k is Toyota building in ADM to the msrp

I will predict that the rectangular headlights with 3 projector beams in each housing will likely outperform the single projector base model “round” variant.

Having 3 different lenses allows one or more of them to be optimized for different pattern and throw.

The First Edition is a strait up money grab to rip off stupids that have to have the new shiny object. Human raccoons are easily baited.

But why the buttoned fabric strap? I mean - of course that will hold up to mud and boulders for people that actually use the things…

Because Toyota needed to add something to a mudflap to make it special.

So they could charge idiots an extra $10K for it.

Very true, I do feel they missed the mark on the Land Cruiser big time and given the price it really isn’t much more affordable in the grand scheme of things. Plus I feel the sequoia is too big for most people and extremely expensive too. But the Land Cruiser with the V6 probably would have been pushing sequoia price given the cost of these vehicles now. Maybe with enough feedback Toyota will offer the V6 in the Land Cruiser, but I doubt that will happen. But I have been happy with my 3rd Gen for the couple months I’ve had it. It’s a huge jump from my Tacoma.

How is the Land Cruiser with a V35A-FTS/10 speed and E-KDSS going to be pushing the price of a Sequoia when the GX550 exists with exactly the same equipment, for basically the same price or within $1.5-$2K of the Land Cruiser with options?

A GX550 Overtrail costs LESS than a Land Cruiser first edition, and only a bit more than a Land Cruiser with the premium option package that will actually get built.

This new Land Cruiser is freaking lame.

Yet it makes no more power than a Tacoma hybrid.

    So why require premium fuel?

Lame. The Land Cruiser is a swing and a miss from what I can see. Lame Cruiser.

I will try to reserve further judgement until I can lay eyes on a new Land Cruiser. For some reason the Toyota site lists dimensions for leg room and head room that don’t make any sense at all.

The fact I can buy and service one within an hour drive forces me to potentially consider one of these instead of a GX550.

I am still not thrilled with how the LC is packaged though. If the Land Cruiser trim could be optioned without the sun roof, with HUD, with JBL, and skip all the other premium package bullshit, it would probably be $64K and that would be a lot more attractive. If a guy could option real tires out of the box that would be good too, maybe some Falken AT4W’s or Toyo Open Country AT’s.

It’s probably “required” the same way premium was “required” for the LX570. You get +2 HP and TQ (383/403) on the exact same engine and tune the LC200 uses but the LC200 takes 87 for the usual 381HP/401TQ.

I just replied to Toyota USA on Facebook and their latest post with evidence of the dimensions being wrong...let's see how long it takes to correct...

The GX 550 2 Row Dimensions seem more correct after sitting in one and test driving one...

Watching a few first drive videos and almost every tester has noted the new Land Cruiser is slow to accelerate, while the GX550 gets with the program. Maybe with the exception of Ben Hardy, but I’m pretty sure that guy has zero testosterone and simply never accelerates hard in anything because it could risk messing up his hipster clothes and stupid looking glasses.

I wonder what gives? The only measured 0-60 I’ve seen for the LC was almost 7.9 seconds, while the GX is consistently putting down times in the 6.2-6.5 second range. They’re not that far apart on power at least on paper. The LC is going to be slug if those numbers are really consistent with that. Passing on two lane highways where I spend a lot of time will be a suck fest, and that is a deal breaker.

Is 7.9 really that bad for a big suv, it wasn’t long ago that was pretty fast and everyone survived

    I guess expectations have changed

A modern SUV that will cost $60K+ has higher expectations.

7.9 is fucking glacial, particularly when, for not a lot more money, you can get the same truck with a better interior, more equipment, and an engine and transmission combo that get with the program.

I will continue to reserve judgement until I see some instrumented testing. Either Toyota or Lexus are not telling the truth about power figures on the LC and GX if the early informal testing results are in fact accurate.

I guess one upside of the T24A-FTS in the new Land Cruiser is that unlike the V35A-FTS I haven’t found multitudes of reports about failed bearings trashing entire engines. So there’s that.

Plus in the long run it is probably way easier to service.

The T24A-FTS is made in the same two factories, TN & AL, as the V35A-FTS (Type '21)...time and time alone with tell the true story...

And having looked at the service manual for it, it really isn't much better than the V35A-FTS (Type '21) in regards to service...one less turbo and the associated plumbing, but the rest is just as complex...sans maybe plug changes...

I was just looking at the amount of space to work and get to things. The spark plugs on the T24A-FTS should be quite easy, and I think the maintenance guide calls for them to get changed at 80K.

Another plus is the waste gate on the turbo of the T24A-FTS is vacuum controlled, so probably more durable.
