lol, you're for sure the winner of the wind noise award of tundras.com

did you eve try that extra piece of trim that the TRD John guy slide into the window channel for grins? it was like 15 bucks on Amazon, Im curious if that would stop it for you.

Guys, so what I did is actually pretty helpful in terms of reducing wind noise.

So if you have to drive long distance, you can do this in a pinch. It looks ugly but window still rolls up down and if you find black color painters tape then this will blend in much better

Here is the Whistling Mirror Fix.

As a reminder - my wind noise does not appear to be the "Common" wind noise. My door seals and window seals look really good. I don't feel / hear / see any cold air getting through the window. There is no air getting around the door.

My driver mirror SQUEALS over 45mph. It's horrible. I taped all the seams on the mirror, and the noise is 100% gone. It took approx 6 months of slowly removing and replacing tape to find the smallest section. This 3" piece of black electrical tape solves the problem completely.

What is your build date, Jeff? I have a similar, soft, high-pitched whistle or squeal at over 65 MPH (and not all the time) from that area in my brand-new 2024 Platinum, and it's not regular wind noise. I'm hunting it with painter's tape and decided to try first the seam in your photo. On one test drive, seems to have worked but that's not enough to be sure. (Although when I had it detailed right after, they removed the tape without me knowing, and when I drove home, the whistle was back.)

Thank you so much! I just slapped a piece of clear packing tape right where you showed and for the first time in 1.5 years my truck is dead quiet on the freeway. No whistling or wind noise at all. I never would have thought the noise was coming from this strange spot underneath. THANK YOU

I’ve been having a similar issue with the noise coming around both front driver and passenger doors. Had the dealer look it while it was there for the 5k service. The service advisor said this isn’t the first time she’s received this complaint. They can’t do anything because there’s no TSB. Was advised to send a message to Toyota to complain…

this is my first time buying a new vehicle in my life and first time having them do stuff under warranty. Is this experience the norm?

ya, it kinda is to some degree, speaking very generally. Newer vehicles are very complex and things happen unfortunately.

that said, toyota is the best at standing behind things and fixing them, perfect? no, but consistently better than the others.

this was a ground up new platform , not a single bolt was shared, so things can happen.

that said, mines been pretty good overall, even my older tundras weren't perfect, and I have had 5 and multiple of each gen

UPDATE: I put black electrical tape on the same seam that Jeff shows in the photo several days ago. Driving around town, of course, I didn't hear it. And today, after a five-hour drive at 78 MPH, I never heard the whistle, despite winds in various directions. I think this must be the solution. Cautiously optimistic.

Will they be able to get you a 100% fix? Probably not.

But it's complete bs, they can at least diagnose and try to replace some seals etc and not just blow you off. Go to another dealer.

You can help them by taping up all seams with paper tape and removing it slowly and figuring out where air leak is coming from. Read this long thread from the beginning

    I purchased my 2023 SR5 in December 2022. I think build date was 10/22

Oh man - I am so glad I could help. When this whole fiasco started - I kept finding Forums that pointed toward window seals and door seals. It was wildly frustrating. I own a repair shop (Powersports, not Auto), so I'm pretty good at diagnostics. It was a long-long-long process.

Contact me if you have any suggestions to improve that 3" strip of tape.

We're bringing ours in for recalls and wind noise next week, so I can update here when its done. Ours has wind noise from both front windows. It sounds like they are just slightly open, so definitely not whistling. It's gotten worse over the year, so it makes me think its the rubber seal slowly degrading. We'll see.

Keep us updated please. Windows slightly open is a perfect way to explain what I have and it's been getting worse just like yours. Will be going in for 5K service in a month or so. Thanks.

Interesting that mine, with build date of 2/24, would have apparently exactly the same issue with same exact solution (so far). Black electrical tape over that seam under the driver's side mirror has stopped the whistling entirely, at any speed.

I've got a build date of 8/22, had same issue with mirror whistling on the highway for about 3k miles in the beginning, then it just stopped by itself.

My hypothesis is that maybe some light dust or dirt got into the gap and whistling stopped on its own.

As far as mirror whistling is concerned, that was it. But window seals have been whistling for the next 5k miles and replaced 4 times by the dealer to eventually get it about 70% quiet

I tried adding the fancier model door seal trim piece at the front of each door. Didn’t make much of a difference. After seeing the post about adding electrical tape to the mirror, I used some clear exterior silicone and covered the gap and wiped off the excess so you can’t see it. The mirror will still break away with an impact and loose the sealing of the silicone. But the noise is about 90% gone. I think the windshield area of this model will always make some noise naturally with a cross breeze but is acceptable now for a newer vehicle.

Update: I took my dealers’ advice and reached out to Toyota corporate via Facebook. They spoke with the dealer and have assigned a case manager. I was told the dealer will reach out to take a look at the truck again (maybe with someone higher up in the food chain?)

update: dropped the truck off today, noise was confirmed. We took out a 2023 sr5 on the same route, was found to have worse sound. Sooo apparently it’s normal.

as an aside, a high pitch whine at 70+mph was noticed at the rear of the truck and diagnosed as a faulty left rear wheel bearing

Lol... It's not normal. Just two defective trucks with wind noise.

    Go to another dealership

I went to look up TRD Jon on youtube thinking this was the issue he dealt with and got fixed with redesigned seals but that was a window RATTLE.

I just test drove a 2023 that had a very bad wind noise coming from behind my head at about 65-70. It was very noticeable without the radio on, so apparently it's still an issue...

My driver door had a squeak like rubbing a styrofoam cooler by the top of the window when I hit bumps. I took it to the dealer, and the seal was replaced. They did a bad job putting in the new seal that not only was the squeak there, now there's wind noise. They replaced a second time, but still nothing. I adjusted the door catch as much as I could, which helped a little. I'm going to try TRD Jon's remedy with the extra weather seal until Toyota has a remedy.
