My last vacation, towing my camper, I discovered my Tundra's maps didn't have some newer routes. According to my manual, I can order a new mapping chip from Toyota, which kinda irritates me! They charge big bucks for their trucks and they won't even give you free updates??

Anyway, does anyone know of a third-party outfit, or, better yet, some handy hint that will give me the upgraded maps for free?

If I couldn't use Android Auto or CarPlay on my head unit, I would use Google Maps or Waze on my phone screen before I ever use the Toyota navigation system. It is complete shit, like all manufacturers native navigation systems, regardless of whether it is up to date or not.

    YMMV

Thanks for the reply, but that link doesn't update maps; just corrects some malfunctions with the infotainment system.

It states that Navigation GPS SD card from Amazon is only good for Tundras thru the year 2018.

I appreciate the post. However there are mixed reviews, several reporting damage to their head unit. So it's significantly more of a risk than just returning it back to Amazon.

I have to disagree with the post that the nav system is worthless. Although it won't re-route around congestion like the phone will, I think it's dependable 98 percent of the time. Also Google Maps and Wayze gets pretty squirrely when cell signal gets weak.

I found one for the wife's Pilot a while back on Ebay for pretty cheap.... Dude updated to the latest, and sold his previous update one generation back. Maybe that approach would be better than paying full price :notsure:

Native navigation has no traffic data, no road conditions, no stalled vehicles, no re-routing to avoid congestion/road work and no speed trap warnings.

I live in the mountains and so lose cell coverage frequently. Waze and Google maps always work with GPS even if they don't have traffic data etc. without cell coverage.

The Ama_zon vendor told me the new SD card will be out in about a weeks time. It should go to at least end of '22.
If I get it I can confirm. The problem with the Ama_zon cards are that once inserted they write your trucks deck info on and are locked to that deck. People return them to Ama_zon. Ama_zon sends them out again and they don't work in another vehicle. This happened to me. The vendor was good refunded my purchase and told me the new version is due out soon. $30 for the card.

yes and its free. I do also use Android Auto on my phone.
The issue I find with the Toyota factory GPS outside of inferior graphics/info compared to Android Auto is that the time to arrive estimates are off on the greater side. So if Android Auto says One hour ETA - Toyota Nav for the same route will say 1.15 for example.
The time of arrival ends up being close to Android Auto time.
Anyone found a way to fix that ?
