What do you have mounted on your bed rails and or Diamondback Cover?

Now that I have a Diamondback cover and my bed is secure and pretty much watertight, I am interested in mounting some stuff to the bed rails and looking for ideas.
If you have stuff mounted to the Diamondback cover, please share those ideas too.
As always, this is worthless without pictures.

I am thinking a Fire Extinguisher with quick release mount to start.
Small Storage Bin for straps.
First Aid Kit?

 

First of all, what does "pretty much watertight" mean. Sounds like you hope it will be watertight but don't really know yet.

In any case, I would not mount anything in your bed that may get wet, like an FAK.

And I also want my fire extinguisher in the cab for ease of access. Last thing in need to do if I have a fire , is to take the time to open my bed and access the fire extinguisher.

Everything you mention can be stored under the rear seat. Secure, watertight and accessible.

 

I just keep the adjustable cleats on the bed rails so I can secure loads.

I got the DB crossbin, so anything I want to carry around goes in there.

 

To date I have only had one very small spot of water in the bed, but I think I caused that when I opened the front panel.
When I checked for water in the bed after other rain events (some were over 3" of rain), I opened the tailgate and found that the bed was bone dry.
I have not drove with it in the rain a lot though.

Your points about the fire extinguisher and other stuff are valid and I appreciate the information.

 

What size crossbin do you have? Any regrets getting the one you have?

 

I dislike my crossbin. Wast of a few hundred bucks. Can't fully use the bed length anymore and accessing the bin in any sort of usable way is nonexistent. To get into the middle portion is impossible without a step ladder or taking the diamondback off and walking into your bed

 

This is exactly what I was thinking as well. While the concept is a good idea, the usability of a deep bin is not. I think totes or storage bins would be a better idea.

 

Back to your original request..
I installed a Hi lift and traction boards on the rails at the front of the bed. Then on the sides there are 2 gallon rotopax in front of dual swing cases. Everything has custom mounts that I built to specifically hold each item. If you want those pics I can get those too.

 

No regrets-really happy with it. I got the 8" deep unit.
I can have the cover and bin off the truck in about :10, and it is infrequent I need all the room in the bed.

 

What mount is that for your jack? Please post pictures of the custom mounts when you get time?

why not just remove the existing bracket and slot a t-nut through? You’d need a little longer bolt I suppose but would accomplish the same thing.

or mount the track to the rails using a couple t-slot nuts and bolts.

 

That may be a good option.

 

Unless you 8' tall that appears to be taken from a 4' step ladder? Do you keep it in the bed as well or just "climb" up yhe side of your truck when accessing it.

 

I am easily able to access my cross bin by standing on the tire or the step rails. I can reach the middle and lean over fine. But I am 6’2”….shorter people may have a problem reaching

I can nearly reach the center of the bin standing at the side of the bed. The items that would typically go in the center well of the bin are big enough to grab- tire chains, back pack, rifle, bright red Costco bag...
I wouldn't put anything small in there.

 

Re rails. These work well for tie downs.

Yes the middle is hard to reach but it’s great for stuff you don’t access much (backpack), and I just stand on wheel (I’m 5-10”) and step bar (nerf bar? Where that name come from?). Also I purchased bins from HD that slide under it perfectly.

 

I’ve found some E Track adapters on Amazon that allow me to add bins to the rails. I could have installed T nuts directly to the bins, but this way allows me to remove them quickly and easily if needed. About $86 total for all 4 bins and all the adapters, as well as 8 E Track rings. I did have to cut a little off the backing but to allow to fit in the vertical position.
