So I got a authentic 5 gallon Wavian fuel jug a couple month ago. I've used it 2 times and there was one thing I noticed this morning.

The old fuel had a tent of red to it. Do yall think it's safe to reuse the fuel jug? I'm not sure what red tinted fuel has in it that could damage the fuel injection system or the combustion chamber.

I'm thinking about using a plastic military fuel jug.

fuel does discolor when it gets old, reddish amber. If there is any doubt I would toss it, or maybe try and use it in the lawnmower or similar.

I cant tell if that jug is metal. If so, look inside, could be some corrosion/rust which would tint the fuel. Any sign of rust or corrosion in that jug- time to toss it. Not worth the potential problems trying to save a few bucks on 5 gallons of fuel.

    Does it smell like varnish?
Run it through a coffee filter, should be fine.

I'll take a look on the inside of it but there is some rust on the outside. I haven't checked the smell but the fuel hopefully turned red because it was old. I'll keep yall posted, give me about an hour.

Doesn't take long for ethanol-laced gasoline to turn color like that. Just a few months. But it's okay to use as long as there's no phase separation, i.e., water in the fuel. I use all non-ethanol gas in my boat and all my gas-powered machines. I don't bother with vehicles, since they go through a tank in a week or two.

So there are no leaks but it does look like the paint on the inside might have been eaten by the fuel.

I bought this new. I'll probably just use it and it will be fine. Thanks for yalls input!
