Okay fellas I need a couple pointers here. I’ve got an 05 sequoia that I bought a viper keyless entry for. Before I get too far let me explain my situation. Vehicle came with OEM keyless entry. I bought keys and remotes from Amazon, I could never get thing into program mode to program extra fobs or keys. Since I’ve only had one key for this thing ever I bit the bullet and took it to the dealership and asked for one programmed key and one fob. Well they were able to get me a programmed key but told me the ecu for the system was messed up and it cost to diagnose the issue and then the price of replacing ecu etc. All I heard was $$$$$. So on that matter I really just want to remotely lock/unlock doors. Don’t care about alarm remote start. I bought a basic viper keyless entry kit with alarm. Not that I care to use it.

Now to the meat of the topic. The kit come with its own wiring diagram. I have found the wiring diagrams for the ECU on the forums but I’m lost as hell with them. So basically I’m asking for pointers on wiring this kit up. I can solder and splice wires no problem just finding the right ones.

also do I have to unplug the OE keyless ECU for the Viper kit to wire in?

I used to work at a shop that installed aftermarket alarms. I don't recommend installing an alarm just because you can't get the truck in programming mode for the key. Get the OEM system to work. You don't want the headaches that eventually come down the road. Aftermarket alarm/remote start systems aren't built to the same quality these days.

Do you want to tell us what cab type you've got? Some indicate the key programming process is different for DC's, but you haven't bothered to put your cab type info in your profile, in the "Vehicle One-Line Description" found here: https://www.tundras.com/account/personal-details

That said, you should have the RS3200 system. The dealership is probably full of shit and wanted you to buy key fobs.

Instead of getting rash, tell us your cab type and which instructions you used to enter programming mode, please.

The system also only holds 4 key fobs. As a good practice, you should always tell it to wipe all key fobs before attempting to add more.

Also, tell us the FCC ID on the back of the key fobs you bought so we can confirm it's correct for a later-model 1st gen.

PS - generic factory programming instructions for the RS3200 OEM system in the later model trucks is here, 100% correct for late-model 1st Gen access and regular cab, and some double cab, but be aware: The timing is freaking crucial on the steps outlined. I never get it the first time. I always need to try 3,4,5 sometimes half a dozen times to get the timing right.

The instructions to program some Double Cab truck key fobs is here (or see video in post #7), taken directly from the Toyota Factory Service Manual, courtesy of @speedtre, which also takes multiple tries to get the steps perfectly timed. I know some people with Double Cab have used my instructions as well. But all the key fob places online, and most of the sellers give you the access/regular cab instructions.

You can also use Techstream to program. But that's another chapter...

Thanks shifty for the answers. I appreciate the advice. I’m always for if I can have something work factory that’s the path I’ll go. I guess I’ll return the viper kit. It came from Amazon should be simple enough. Now I do have my cab stated on my vehicle. I am currently working on an 05 sequoia which all the research I have done should be the same programming as the double cab. Correct me if I’m wrong. Now as far as which method did I try. I have spent hours trying different methods relentlessly no luck. Trying to get a key or fob to program. Yes I am aware that I have chipped key as well. Now something I found strange is the dealership was able to get me a spare key by not an extra fob. Do they not have to go through the same ecu for programming. And again I do appreciate the info you have provided.

Also if the dealership would have sold me fobs that worked I would have bought them. When I bought the truck it came with only 1 key. Finally after years of owning it I finally wanted to get extra keys and fobs. The fobs I bought have fcc ID 2aovx-t1

i might've been having a senior moment last night and skipped over the Sequoia part. If so, my bad.

I would try both sets of instructions I linked up (or for DC/Sequoia see video on next post), but just know: Nobody ever seems to get it right the first time. 2-3 attempts before success is normal.

Dealership would be using Techstream to program your fob. Process would be similar to this, their attached pics show the process, it's not super-well-put-together but it shows the point: https://priuschat.com/threads/techstream-key-fob-programming-–-step-by-step-with-pics.215529/

Looking up the parts diagrams for your DOUBLE CAB 1st gen (if 2WD here, or if 4WD here though a VIN would provide me with more accurate results) it would appear Toyota's p/n for your vehicle's key fob is different from the Access Cab and Regular Cab model, yours is 897420C030 which runs me about $95 locally if I buy throough the Toyota Parts website (though one local dealership wants $121 for local pickup?!)

If I take that number and plug into fleaBay to find used but Genuine OEM transmitters, I ran across this which is for your vehicle, same part number. And clearly, the FCC ID from the OEM part (HYQ12BBX) doesn't match what you just gave me. Maybe the dealership wouldn't program or failed to program because you actually have the wrong key fob, which is making them think your keyless system is not working?

Oh - and this video supposedly covers the Factory Service Manual version of how to program keyfobs on Sequoia, even with immobilizer chips, in case moving pictures are better than words for you (they are for me)
