Wipers Thread. Which ones are you using? Do they all suck??

HI guys,

I have searched high and low and tried a million different wipers and they all either leave streaks, residue, or do not wipe cleanly.

Any reccomendations.? What are you using?

OEM are good. So are Bosch Icon.

 

OEM are good, note- there are two types, one is good and other not so much. I dont know which is which but someone will chime in.

Best I have found (and ive used a bunch) other than the good OME units are bosch icon, and Im running those currently.

OEM for me, despite the price.

One thing I can recommend that really does help is Rain-X and Rain-X wiper fluid. It really makes a big difference!

 

While on this subject, if you park your truck in the sun for long time periods, pipe insulation works well to preserve the blades.

 

I usually buy Valeos every 2 years.

But after the truck sat on the dealer's lot for 8 months I bought these in July.
They work OK, chatters a little if it isn't wet enough.
I'll go back to Valeo for my next next purchase.

On other vehicles - I’ve been pretty loyal to using Bosch - best all around I’ve found.

No idea who makes the OE for Toyota - but would look at those first f I needed a replacement. Like most OE stuff - it’s sometimes hit and miss - for example batteries and tires I’m not a fan of with my Tundra - but wipers have been good.

 

I've had really bad luck with that orange stuff leaving a film on my paint.

 

The OEM wipers I got when I bought my truck last December (dealer said they were new when I bought the truck) were great for a few months but they are shot to hell now. I bought some cheapos on Amazon. I'll let you know how they are.

Got 4 years out of my stock wipers. Went with them again. A little pricey but worth it. Not the Toyota sightline wipers either.

These are the good OEM ones:

Left: 85222-0C030
Right: 85212-0C030

Quick and easy install. Have survived winter and no issues.

 

OEM. Great for 2 to 3 years.

 

OEM are good, but only the original numbers 85222-0C030 and 85212-0C030. The Sightline replacements being called OEM by some dealers (85212-YZZ1Q-TM and 85212-YZZ1P-TM) are crap!

 

Michelin Guardian, costco special $7.99 ea. so far so good.

Another vote for OEM. They all tend to last longer if you wipe them clean occasionally.

Rain X is your friend. Clean the windshield properly, apply rainX. I use the additive to my washer fluid, not the orange RainX fluid. a long ago internet rumor suggested the orange stuff corroded some lines or gummed up pumps or something I didnt want to fool with so I dont use it. Haven't read that there is that issue with the additive, so I've used that with no problems. Yes, I realize that isn't logical, but it's worked for me.

 

between my pervious Tacoma and this Tundy i've been through most of them none of the gimmicky aftermarket ones seem to stand above the others. OEM ftw.

 

I started with OEM and one of them ripped on a Sunday. Can't remember if I got Bosch or Rain-X but they've worked well for past year. I just ordered a set of Valeo's from the Rock along with some parts for my Suburban. They seem to get good reviews on this forum so I'll give them a try. Winter wx is not the issue here, it's sun/heat damage.

 

Toyota OEM is my goto wiper setup. Although for the coming winter I will be installing these, ( Heated Wiper Blades | Everblades Windshield Wipers ), my suppliers who deliver to our facility swears by these for snow and icy conditions.

 

I coat my windshield with Aquapel a few times a year. So long as your wipers don't get gummed up with residue from not applying it correctly, your wipers do little work (coatings are 90% prep, 10% application - as usual.) I have the original OEM wipers on my truck and it's hitting 3 years old soon. The wipers are still 100% as new and that's through Canadian winters.

I'll be putting OEM wipers on when they wear out though. They've been no issues so far - even notwithstanding the coatings.

 

OEM blades and I wipe the blades with 303 a few times a year so they do not dry out.

 

^ This. They are not the best longevity wise down here in Texas but I swap them out every 6 to 9 months at that price.

Valeo 26OE and 23OE (Ultimate Beam) have been the best I used so far. Bought from Rockauto.com for reasonable price. The factory wipers were done in less than a year.

 

Hell… I missed this party.

I am in Oregon, so the wipers MUST perform on one of the wettest places in the planet. Also, we’ve been getting temps up to 115 the last few years in the summer.

We get serious ice in winter.

I have been astounded at the factory blades, which I just had to pull off and replace today, at 74,000 miles of heavy use.

2 weeks ago I noticed a line that the wiper was cutting across the glass, so I cleaned the blade with alcohol. That line widened to a stripe, and when I looked again, I could see the rubber blade had a split in it. I got the Bosch Icons.

I‘d really like to get another OEM set. Do they hold up as well as the factory originals do? I was pretty amazed.

 

I use the Rain-x latitude (midgrade for Rain-x): https://www.rainx.com/product/rain-x-latitude/ I then use the rainx solution additive (like if the dealer refills your fluid) in the wiper fluid and/or rainx wiper fluid itself, which both have water repellent qualities in them. Wipers are a wear item and should be replaced every year in my opinion, I replace mine as soon as it stops freezing each year as that is generally what kills them when used with frost. Like the Oregonian post above we live in continuous rain/mist, ideally if you have enough rain-x solution on the window you don't even use the wipers at highway speeds. ->not sponsored by rain-x lol, just works well.
