Hello all. My 2021 only has 4000 miles on it. Circumstances were such that I never had to drive it in the rain till about 6 month back, and the wipers bounced all over the windshield, even in a good steady rain. I cleaned them off and did a super cleaning of the windshield and no improvement. I said what the hell and bought a pair of higher end Bosch (I can't believe how much wipers cost. What could their cost to produce it be...can't be too much), in the newer flat style like Toyota originally put on it, and no improvement, or at least only a tad better. Not much rain since then on the truck. Fast forward to yesterday. Light rain + wipers = big bouncin going on. Geez! Temps in the 30s so I figured the rubber (synthetic variety?) was extra stiff anyway. I am contemplating getting some low end conventional style Tricos..or perhaps their "NeoForm or other models which claim "Memory Curve Steel® for uniform pressure and greater performance"

Have any of you had to wrestle with this? Does the Tundra windshield have some kind of unique profile/angle/shape that poses problems to wipers? Input very much appreciated.

I haven't had any issues with mine. They are almost two years old now and I see just a little streaking. Not enough to replace them though.

I've never had a better wiper than OEM. Used Bosch tricos rainX Michelins on older vehicles. Never lasted this long, never were as smooth as the OEMs. (sightlines or something like that). My first pair on my 2014 (I bought CPO in 2016) I had for 2-3 years. Wipers never lasted me more than half a year before.

I rainX my windshield every time a wash and use the additive in the when I refill the wiper fluid. Not sure what's going on with your windshield OP, maybe a good degreaser cleaning, then orbital buff some rainX on there and give it another rip.

Mine has always done this also.

Make a shit ton noise no matter how much rain I'm getting. Starts bouncing toward the top end of the swipe.

I tried RainX etc no change.

I agree - I am somewhat of a windshield wiper connoisseur. I have tried almost all Rain X, Trico and Bosch versions on various cars. The OEM ones have been the best for my Tundra. I just was in a bind (wiper snapped when I was cleaning off ice) and went and got a set of the trico ice versions thinking with the winter weather it may help. THEY SUCK!!!! I am going to order a set of the OEM ones and be done with it. I have learned my lesson through a lot of trial and error.......and the cost of some of these are outrageous. I was embarrassed to spend $65 on a pair and swore to myself I would never do it again.

Wiper blades and gillette fusion razor blades (I am bald and shave my head twice a week at least) are literally the bane of my financial existence.....hahaha

I've had my truck about 4 months and experienced the same thing initially. Didn't get much rain for the first few months of ownership. However, it's been raining lots lately and mine seem to have gotten better. I was contemplating the same thing after getting alot of bouncy function at first. Seems to be better now though.

OEM work fine on my 2020 CM. And I agree- what's with the price of wipers nowadays??

While the OEM replacements (not Sightlines) seem to work the best of the lot, they still all suck, I believe, due to the beam design rather than the old style where you could replace the rubber "inserts". The old style seemed to exert more consistent pressure across the blade than the beam style we're stuck with now. Our '04 Sienna wipers *still* work better than my '18 Tundra's ever have. And it irks me that I have to pay $20 per blade for replacements when I get all 3 inserts for my Sienna for half that.

The parts guy at my local dealership, price matched OEM blades for $21.98. Expensive but best blades that last the longest for my use. I change them every 18 months.

I have tried several wipers on my Tundra and for whatever reason, Tundras, or mine, is picky about what wipers function well. I have tried at least 5 different ones and the ones that have worked best for me are Bosch Icon. Is the only wiper I will install going forward.

This exact thread was brought up awhile back and someone said they had great luck with these from Amazon so I gave them a try. They are dead quiet and work fantastic. Not slipstream pretty if that's what you after but work great.
    Valeo 22OE - passenger
    Valeo 26OE - drivers
I've also had great luck with OEM but no winter where I live. Also, avoid the Michelin's from Costco like the plague, cheap but insanely bad from noise to streaking.

Mine were a bit jumpy when new but pumping out all the factory blue juice and replacing with RainX -20 or 30 cured it. I also use my washers often while it's raining. Maybe I like playing with squirt guns and garden hoses but it also helps remove and oils splashed up from the road.

The factory wipers on my 2020 started skipping after about 18 months. Replaced them with these and they have been much better. They look very similar to the factory stuff and cheap enough that I don't care if they only last a year or two.

The newer trucks leave the factory with beam wipers. Not sure which year they switched.

In my experience with 2 Tacomas and now Tundra the OEMs are best. I tried to get refills from the dealer. They said I had to buy a pack of 8. I said stick it. I was able to just get 2 for the Tacomas.

Mine have been weird since I got it - not quite sure how to describe... it's seemed sticky and not smooth. Not overly so, but just noticeable. Like it's been parked under a tree and got a little sap on it. Dealer supposedly applied something to the windshield for some kind of anti-chip protection/warranty. Not sure if that's part of the problem or not.

Anyway, it's gradually been getting better. Right now, the DS blade is really pissing me off. Both are gliding fairly smooth now, but the DS has decided to start streaking on the downstroke. About 2" of smear right across my field of vision. PS is perfect (naturally) both directions. DS is perfect on the upswing, then has to **** everything up on the return. :annoyed:

I spoke with the body shop manager of a dealer that recently fixed a FACTORY dents and paint problem (that's another story. Suffice it to say I miss Toyotas being manufactured in Japan!). He is sharp and said (despite what the regular care service writer told me to the contrary) the culprit may be the arm and the tension. Hopefully I will get that to him in short order.

I swear I have said this on every “brand new” vehicle have bought. I’m not an engineer or even close. But my thinking is they all blow and the reason the factory ones seem so great is the glass is new, after a few years there is a lot of “pitting” even if you can’t feel it. I’ve only had to replace one windshield but it kinda verified my “thinking”.

It has been my experience on any vehicle, no matter what the blade used, is that if the windshield glass itself isn't WAX FREE, bug gut free, etc the wipers are NOT gonna do a good job.

Bouncing the blade is because of a sticky/waxy glass surface, IMHO -

Change that and you should be good to go.

    YMMV

I too have given the death grip to my steering wheel and cussed and muttered despicable things under my breath because of this frustration. Shoot some dry lube into the hinge and make sure everything is free. Possibly find a stiffer spring for the arm.
