    Two steps forward...1 step back.

Decided self isolation would make a good opportunity to work on the Tundra. Took rear door apart and fixed the broken child safety lock and the door lock actuator. Figured it would be a good time to go ahead and wash the outside.

Going smooth until I went to pop my wiper blade up to wash the glass underneath and the whole blade slid off and the bracket slammed back down into my window putting a huge crack in it...

Is there anything I need to be cautious of when having someone replace it? Luckily I’m in FL so it’s free with insurance just have to pay to replace the strip of tint up top. Can someone like safelite knock this out for me or should I take to a body shop?

Most body shops don’t do glass, they have a glass guy. I would call a few places, price varies allot

I've used Safelite here here in FL and had no issues. They did great. And it did not cost me a dime.

No offense but Safelite glass is as cheap as you can get. I’ve had a few installed and all chipped, cracked and broke easy. If you have an option, call around and find out what glass manufacturers a shop is using.

Sorry you have to go through this pal.

The windshields today are expensive given the sensors integrated in them. It can easily cost a 1k.

I would call your insurance and pay the usual 500 bucks deductible. Reason being is that, it’s half the price of paying the whole thing yourself, it’s warrantied work and it should not count against your driver record because it’s not a collision. It’s comprehensive damage.

It happened to another car of mine a couple of months ago. And it was better and more efficient to go through insurance.

    Just an idea

I feel your pain. My experience with all my Toyota windows is that when they break the factory seal to replace it will never be airtight again. My FJ took a factory piece, make sure they use factory pieces if yours needs it, and tell them you’re bringing it back until it’s airtight. This was my last replacement...it rained glass I tell ya..the blood on the hood was the 18” rat dinner the owl was carrying as he flew through the windshield.
