I spent the evening pulling half my dash apart chasing a squeak/rattle that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side dash, behind the upper glove box. After a roll or two of Tessa tape, some strategically placed sound deadener, and hours of tapping and pulling and prying on plastics and dash parts, I backed the truck out of the shop for a test drive; I didn't even make it to the end of the driveway before I heard it squeaking away. Ugh.

The squeak was basically anomalous in the winter time for a while, then it became intermittent for a few months, then more consistent. Now it will will squeak sometimes just sitting at a light, and pretty much constantly with bumps as I drive down the road. Driving me crazy as the truck has been basically squeak and rattle free since I bought it.

After chasing everything I could think of in the dash - pulled the blower motor, pulled the radio, pulled both glove boxes, etc - I popped the hood to jiggle things around and found the windshield wiper cowling to rattle on the passenger side when I tapped on it. Hmm... After some fiddling, it appears that all of the clips that hold the cowling to the sheet metal are broken. I suspect the windshield repair place must of had the new guy working when they replaced my windshield a while back and just ripped the cowling up. Else, they somehow all broke off over the years..? I don't recall ever needing to access that are or removing the cowling.

Either way, I need to deal with it. Any ideas for somehow repairing these clips? Maybe try sandwiching what's left with an outer clip, kind of like many of the Toyota dash and trim parts? I'm good at breaking door clips so I'm used to replacing those, but I'm not sure what to do with these. I may just use double sided tape and try to tack it all back down along that strip of sheet metal. Not a great pick, but you can see they are all broken. If you look closely, you can also see some of the metal is deformed where the tabs are supposed to insert and lock, most likely from somebody prying or pinching them. Thanks in advance.

I am curious: were you able to get it repaired, and did it fix the problem? I have a dash rattle I haven't started to really dive into yet to locate the source.

I ended up using some 3M double sided tape to attach it. The cowl piece is $400 and I didn’t feel like forking out for it when I when I wasn’t sure that was the problem. The double sided tape seemed to fix the cowl rubbing, but the noise persisted.

As it turned out, I had a broken airbox mount on the fender that was causing all the issue. I could hear it through the HVAC inlet so it sounded like it was in the dash. See this thread:

Thanks, I will take a look. I know my airbox is loose. I have a metal that ripped one of the bolts out of the fender when I went over a jump.
