I recently purchased a 2021 Tundra SR5 with the 18 inch steel wheels

I want to purchase a set of oem alloy wheels off a 2018 tundra

Will the Tpms on the 2018 wheels work with my 21?

I've read that no they won't. Something about the sensors at different angles in steel wheels vs alloys.

I replaced all my tpms sensors on my 21 when I got new wheels. Got them from TPMS.com for a fraction of the ridiculous amount Toyota wanted. They self programmed to vehicle and have been working just fine.

    One year ago..
Toyota, 4 tmps sensors and fitting kits = $416.72
    TPMS.com, same order = $159.88 (OEM)

I'm essentially buying a complete oem 2018 alloy wheel with tpms from 2018, I guess what I'm asking is will my 21 tundra see or be able to synce with the 2018 tpms sensor

My truck currently has 21 oem steal wheels

I am/was tracking. From everything I've read, no it will not. I think there is an additional digit of code number plus the different angle between the 2 sensors makes your truck not recognize them. I went from 2019 base wheels (not steel) to 2021 TRD off-road alloys. They had to move my 2019 sensors to the 2021 TRD wheel.

My sensors from my 19 would not work with my 21, so I'm sure the 18 won't either.

My understanding in ‘17 and older, ‘18 & ‘19, and then ‘20 & ‘21 were the three different TPMS iterations for 2nd (and 2.5 gen) Tundras. I may be off my rocker though…

I do know that my new (still not yet installed) sensors for my 2018 have 7-digit codes. That is also what Techstream shows for my OEM ones. Earlier years were 8-digit.

Here are my 5 new ones. 315mhz.

I’d get the wheels you want and get on tpms.com for the sensors as @Rockwell recommended.

You don't need to look for 20-21 wheels. Just buy a new set of tpms sensors. No the 2018 tpms sensors will not work in your 2021. Toyota went to a different tpms configuration (frequency). Tundras have always used two different sensor angles which are different between steel wheels and aluminum wheels but this has nothing to do with if they will be able to read on the 2021.

I feel bad for poor OP on this one. We’re telling him information that we’re not backing up with data. I’d thought that ‘18 and ‘21 sensors were not interchangeable, but Sparks’ website with OEM parts makes it look like they may be if he doesn’t have a smart key 2021.

Weren’t the ‘17 and older sensors 425mhz, and they went to 315mhz in 2018? What frequency change happened after that? Or is it possible that the sensors for smart key trucks have an addressable signal from each sensor that is not compatible with regular keyed trucks?

It’d be cool if we could f go eat some real part numbers for what he’s trying to accomplish and help a brutha out.

Good information. I'm not sure what year and model that the tpms changed frequency. If I were the OP I won't be overly concerned about purchasing the 2018 wheels. If the tpms sensors fail to work its nit that expensive to buy another set of sensor. If they work, bonus.
