As much fun as this is watching the banter, does anyone have anything to add to this thread titled:

Why no new posts in the engine failures thread?

I would like to get back to the discussion if that is possible. Does the lack of posts about V35 engine failures indicate that Toyota has fixed the problem quietly and all the new trucks are in the clear?

My best friend bought his wife a Ford Expedition, new in 2002 I think. Gas motor. He was constantly telling me stories about her forgetting to check oil or coolant. More than once it overheated and died on the road. They would top it off, fire it up, and keep running it. Old Blue. Has like 350k miles on it. I think it’s part cockroach.

not true again - that just means they will pay for the repairs to keep them running. Do a research study on “cost of ownership” of vehicles and report back. You might be shocked at what you’re going to find out…..

Could it be that failures have dropped significantly back to baseline due to an effective solution to the problem has been instituted? That is a distinct possiblity in my opinion.

Let's hope that is the case. It does seem that the quantity of failures has slowed. It looks like the 2024 will end being a more reliable year, I am still waiting to hear what Toyota plans on doing with the recalled engines and I hope it is a good solution.

it will most definitely be a GREAT solution. Aside from the fact that they had to perform the recall I. The first place of course….

I am hoping that a long block replacement will be assured for the affected units, and the remedial measures that seem to be delivering results already will make such replacements less of an issue as time goes on.

If you are attempting an insult on the 5.7 owners, you still have a few more Tundra engines to go before you alienate everyone here.

@Ramaswamy how about the new turbo 4 banger in the new taco? That’s got to give you lot’s to talk about!

I am sure tacomaworld.com would like to go round and round on that engine.

Anybody here know if the 103K miles failure from a few days ago has been confirmed as main bearing/s?

What difference does it make? It was a catastrophic engine failure and the truck was a "shipper" on a rollback.

    Oh, ok.
I thought we were discussing a specific type of engine failure that precipitated a recall. So I figured knowing if the highest failure to date was related would be relevant. My bad.

Lot of stuff can happen in 103k miles. Deferred maintenance. Abuse. DIY maintenance beyond owners skill. Or something else. At that mileage it is not automatically the recall problem. May be but not guaranteed

I don’t believe it was ever confirmed what the issue was yet. Who knows at this point. That’s a problem with post like that, the majority don’t bother following up and we never know but everyone just assumes. Could be main bearing and it also couldn’t. I think the real issue now is main bearing failure is a known issue and any time someone post that is where the conversation goes.

Recall stated Toyota promised resolution for recalled vehicles by “Late July” so should we expect to know more in next 2 weeks?

Toyota stated it was left over metal debris from production not removed causing the issue and not the main bearing by itself. Assuming they are telling the truth that’s the cause, not the bearing failing in an otherwise healthy engine.

If their story changes that would be interesting.
