TL;DR I wanted a V8 and have two giant dogs.

Longer version: I've been in love with the Tacoma since 2004 when I first saw the 4 door. Around 2011 I got a 2003 4 door Tacoma and that was my favorite truck, even growing up in a die-hard Ford family. About 6 years later (last year) I decided it was time for a new one and was dead set on a 2018 Tacoma... Until I drove my boyfriend's F150 for a couple days. After that it was bye bye Taco and hello V8. I wasn't about to get a Ford, since I know their reputation, so I test drove a Tundra. I fell in love immediately after hitting the road and bought the 3rd one I tested. I bought a crewmax because I have two Great Danes that we take everywhere we can, and they fit perfectly in the backseat.

Was already in a Tacoma. Wanted bigger truck for more room. Tacoma was starting to get cramped when adding GF and her son and dogs plus gear for anything. Now there is room for everything and then some.

I was in a 2016 Tacoma double cab and I loved the truck. The Tacoma in my opinion is far beyond (looks wise) any mid size truck. Esteically I fell in love which is why in my test drive I didn’t really examine the transmisson or engine nor did I think about the size of the backseat. I’m starting my family soon so I decided to make the move to a Crewmax for the future car seats. I also fell in love with the 5.7L V8 over the 3.5L V6 :burnrubber:

Also I’d like to add that I had my Tacoma for a year and added about 12k miles on it. I bought it for used for 30k sold it for 29k to the dealer. That’s how well these vehicles hold value.

    I've owned a 2006 Tacoma and a 1999 4runner. Both within the last 10 years.
    -Always felt cramped.
-Felt like my legs were out in front of me instead of underneath me, not a comfortable driving position for longer trips.
-Underpowered when you really need to carry some stuff, nevermind towing. Neither one was a good tow vehicle.

If I wanted to build another trail/overland vehicle, what my 4runner was built up to be, I would go with a Tacoma or a 4Runner. The smaller vehicle is just more fun offroad. But for family and truck stuff I will be in a Tundra or larger.

I am DC with 1 rear facing childseat right now, soon to be forward facing. I had a few used DC and CM local to me when I was shopping. The bed space was just more important to me.

Was shopping used Tacoma, really wasn't finding what I wanted in our budget. 2n Gen Tundra about same $$ (or cheaper) as Tacoma of same age. Started liking Tundra's "more truck for value" than Tacoma.

DC because that is what we found for great deal and decent mileage. Can't be real picky when buying used. Would have considered Crewmax if we had came across one.

Actually liking DC with longer bed, kind of prefered all along.

I've driven Toyotas since before the Tacoma/Tundra thing existed. I find it difficult to get into and out of the smaller truck now, so I got the Tundra. I went with the DC since its usually just me or one other person. The CC made no sense for me. I'd rather have a little bigger bed.

I wanted the room for a car seat. Even when it is no longer needed, we'll still have plenty of room to stretch out on road trips.

I had an 08 Taco that I bought new and put about 192k on it. I loved the Tacoma but it was time for a new truck. The 3rd gens kinda scared me with the new engine and trans. Read alot where guys said it was always "searching" for a gear. I live in a mountainous part of the country (WV country roads take me home) and half my commute is up and down on a 4 lane highway. Well I was still unsure about the Tundra. Loaded the family up to go look. Wife and 3 kids aged 13,10,&4. After we got in the crewmax there was no other option. So much room they didnt have sit on top of each other and they weren't even rubbing elbows. My wife has a Volvo XC90 and we have alot more room in the Tundra. Now I can tow or haul whatever and have power to spare. The only downside is off roading. I'm sure the Tundra will go but the Taco has alot more room to maneuver. But it did give me a reason to buy another ATV. No regrets on switching to a bigger more powerful truck.

Never had a personal Tacoma but put 40,000 some miles on a work Tacoma. When I changed my fleet over to Toyota, a Taco was not even an option. Unless you live in the city with small parking spots and garages I cant see any benefit to the smaller truck. The Tundras gas mileage isn't that far off a Taco and you get the extra room and capacity. Plus, I'll pass 10 Tacos for every Tundra I pass on the road.

Actually it was a very tough choice for me. My kids are adults now and on their own so I don't need a backseat and the Tacoma would fit in my garage (both at work and home) which would have been really nice. I really like the Gen2.5 Tacoma's a lot so it was a close call but I wanted a truck to haul stuff so bed size was important to me. From that perspective, I could have made do with an Access Cab Tacoma but I'm a bigger guy and have driven V8's most of my life so the Tundra was just a better overall fit for me. Once I took a Tundra out on the hwy and opened it up, I knew I had to buy the Tundra.

Being more concerned with bed space rather than backseat room, I got the DC Tundra

I don't like Lite Beer so why a lite truck?
also I didn't fit in a tacoma, back to that beer thing.

Seriously, always had full size trucks after driving that B2000 back in the day. I got 15 years out of a GMC, felt I should have gotten more so I went Toyota.

A Tacoma sized pickup would have served my needs very well. I did not care for the reports of the 3.5L V-6 (power band up high in the rev range). If they would have offered the 4.6L (310hp), that is what would be in my garage right now. I had a 2006 V-8 Tundra from new and sold it to my daughter at 225,000 miles. Since the Taco didn't have the V-8, I got the 5.7L Tundra. More truck than I need in a practical sense but I forget about that when I light the afterburners in my unladen Tundra. Whoopee!

I actually really like the looks of old and new Tacoma’s. I like full-size vehicles but mid size would fit my needs at the moment. In the future I hope to have a travel trailer. So I would need this as a tow vehicle. But when I was at the dealer I was looking at Tacoma’s as well as the tundra’s. For one, if it’s going to be a V6 and a heavy Tacoma...it needs to be somewhat powerful. The Tacoma I was looking at did not feel powerful. Then when I saw the price tag on the tundra was not much more than that, I knew my decision had to be the full-size truck. In my opinion you get way more for your money.

At the time (2017) I was shopping for a used 2015 Tacoma cause I didn't like the new Tacoma body style. The prices were very high for those and realized I could get a new one for around the same money even though I dint like the body style that much.

At the same time my father in law was shopping for a full size. I went with him to test drive the Tundra and after that the Tacoma purchase was history.

Power, interior room, and reliable drivetrain sold me on the Tundra.

That new Tacoma is a real slow dog.

Can't fit all the road trip stuff, two Labs and my wife in the Tundra without the box on top. No way I could fit it in a Tacoma.

I only drive full size trucks with v8s because:

I need to tow a trailer at times
I have two kids, one still in a booster

I got a 99' tacoma as my first truck. a few years later I bought new 12' and drove it for 6 years. If it wouldn't of been a prerunner I probably would of kept it a bit longer. I ended up getting the 18' crewmax because I wanted a bigger truck. Size, towing, power.

Went to look at a 2014 Tundra, my wife called and asked how things were going I told her good, but was going to look at the Tacoma. She said she doesn't want to see a small truck, so didn't even bother looking and got the tundra definently glad I didn't.

    2017 blazing blue crewmax
Leveled, ceramic tint all around, 2018 led headlight/fog light conversion
I moved into the Tundra CM from a Cadillac SRX, so coming from a SUV.
    Reasons for me:
Keeping up with Jones’s - ridiculous but true to a point- i traded in my caddy and wife has Lexus- Tacoma to me is just an alternative for someone that can’t get into a Tundra. I compare Tacoma to a ford ranger...
Tundra Crewmax has tons of interior room with seat folded up (could fit my Trek Fuel EX bike in back seat)
I test drove a Tacoma and 4Runner and felt seriously cramped and uncomfortable in drivers seat- was too low. I have back issues and sitting in the tundra is much more comfortable.
So do i tow anything? Nope. Do I often put stuff in bed of truck? Less than once a month unless its a couple bikes.
    Do I enjoy it? Yep.

I chose a Tundra first because I'm 6'6" and second we want to get a travel trailer. And I went with the crewmax because I have 2 kids.
