Why buy a Pro and immediately upgrade suspension?

God bless America and you guys can do whatever the hell you want, but....

Why am I seeing so many guys buy Pro’s and immediately ditch the suspension for something else?? Seems like a massive waste of money to me!

Aren’t you better off paying $10k less for a Limited and then buying everything you want for it?

Am I missing something other than having ‘TRD Pro’ stamped to the bed?

I personally didn’t know any better as I expected the Pro suspension was good enough and then I was introduced to this forum. As my needs changed, I learned and continue to learn from people who push their vehicles that you can customize to your liking.

In my case, I was able to sell my pro suspension for a good price and upgraded to Kings and spent a few hundred more.

I admit that the stamped PRO is cool. :smokertransformer:

Honestly, I don’t see many people buying a Pro and changing out the suspension. They may add an additional kit to get more lift but that’s still designed using the Pro equipped shocks. Are you confusing a TRD Off Road or TRD Sport with the TRD Pro?

    Nope. I’m definitely not confused.

Tons of guys on here have upgraded their pro suspension. I see posts relatively regularly where a guy will say “Just picked up my Pro... new suspension should arrive next week!” Etc....

Again - they can do whatever they want and most of their trucks look awesome! I just don’t understand the logic.

The majority of buyers have no clue what they’re buying. I wanted a Pro. But didn’t want a stripped down truck. So I opted for a loaded Sport and saved $10k lol. All that went back to modding right out the gate.

I bought a base 2019 SR DC and turned it into a Pro - at a fraction of the cost. My “Poor Mans TRD Pro” I call it. I don’t have the stamped “TRD Pro” on the bed however....:monocle:

Hmmm... Gave me an idea. Maybe time to search salvage yards for TRD Pro stamped rear fenders.

I don't understand it either but I'm thankful for those that do sell their suspension, wheels or any other Pro parts. I bought all the parts to make my SR5 a Pro except for the stamped bed for a fraction of the price.

It's a good thing for those of us that are looking to upgrade.

No you are not missing anything. Toyota is the master of appearance packages for lots of money, the PRO is just one of them. People put a lot of emphasis on appearance and Toyota has made millions off that fact.

My wife and I had this conversation... She asked me when we get a Tundra, are you going to lift it. I told her, if we get a SR5, Limited or Platinum I will most likely get it lifted, but if we get a TRD Pro then no. On the Pro the whole reason to get it is the suspension on it. We don't plan on doing any suspension changes. I wish the inside didn't have the chrome stuff in it though.... AJT has helped me with some of that.

I personally wouldn’t do it, only because I would have to remove the bedsides with the Pro stamp for glass fenders. And also because Pros don’t come in the best color... Silver. But I really don’t see anything wrong with it. By the time you sell your Pro suspension and wheels, and not have to waste time and money color matching bumpers and badges and the ugly grilles on all the other trims, you really didn’t pay that much more.

My guess is people want the color matched bumpers, blacked out emblems, bed stamp and resale of the pro but have lots of money to burn and like to upgrade their trucks? I’m not changing my suspension until it wears out.

I guess people just have too much money and they don’t know what to do with it. But that’s why there’s people like me, picking up the scraps from deeper pockets individuals. I was able to get and awesome deal on a full suspension and wheels from a 19 pro with 50 miles on the odometer.

    Pro suspension, sways
Many think the PRO is the top of the line trim because it is the "PRO". Then they realize the spent 20% more on an SR5/Limited with the stamp. This enrages them to the point of jacking all the PRO stuff off to spite the truck, and overcompensate for their inadequacies.

I drove a PRO and loved the suspension and that was it. Everything else was marketing fluff. So I bought a Platinum and had the PRO suspension put on before I took delivery.
Everything under warranty and it's a fully loaded DD that drives like a PRO. Only other people can see the stamp while you're driving so the PRO is purely a Vanity issue with "have to have it, so I can say, yes it's a PRO... See the bedstamp over there..."

9-10 people think mine is a PRO anyway, I don't have to correct them because it really doesn't matter what anyone does with the money they waste!. To each his own.
I like that this has it's own thread, it has never made sense to me.

I think that is probably the best trim that Toyota doesn’t offer... a platinum pro. Lol

I don't see why you all hate on the Pro. I didn't buy it for the stamp, I bought it because it's a badass truck and I got a great deal. No plans on changing the suspension, I'll just add to it to customize the way I want. Didn't have to buy a dual exhaust, black it out, get rid of chrome bumpers, buy black rims like I did my 2017 SR5. If people have the money then they shouldn't be patronized for spending it. I don't mock ya'll for buying a $40k truck and spending $10k to turn it into my $50k truck. More power to you. That's the beauty of our country, do what the &%@* you want, but by mocking those that do something different you are either liberal, jealous or just a whiny person that's never happy unless all agree with you. Now let me go proudly drive my Pro around the block just because I can....

I'd love a Pro for the color match grill, bumpers etc. All the visuals make it a sharp looking truck..It has a nice suspension stock. The wheels to me don't have enough offset an the stock tires are a joke for claiming off-road prowess..A great truck an it's simply out of my price range. No hate though. I suppose we can look at it as if someone removed the suspension it's a great opportunity for another member to upgrade using the takeoffs.. It reminds me of when I was younger I desperately wanted a WRX STi.. My justification over the more economical / affordable WRX was that it already had the better gear an so I wouldn't have to mod it.. Well that lasted all of a few months.. So I don't doubt alot of guys buy a PRO thinking it's already upgraded then find that they get the mod itch, just like the rest of us..

They do it so that guys like me can buy it from them at a lower cost! I get to have an SR5 TRD off road with Pro suspension. It may not look like a pro because of the aesthetics like bed stamp, color matching and interior. But it’s still the same truck, and now just as capable. it all works out in the end. Someone who can afford the extra, passes the goods down to the Tundra brothers with a lower cost. Also thanks for the pro headlight hand me downs. They look great!
