My kid is 7. Tried starter competitive swimming last year. They let under 8s race only semi-seriously for the experience and strength building. My son Walked off the block crying several times last year, overcome by anxiety in front of the crowd. We thought he’d never want to do it again.

Seemed to conquer his fear this year so now we’re back in the mix. Hands down Worst sport for parents out of all of them in my opinion.

“Greetings. The meet goes from 9-1230. Warmups at 830. Your child is in race 8, the 3rd heat of race 29 and the last heat of race 51. Oh and pretty please we need volunteer timers to stay on their feet the entire 3 hours running from one end of the pool to the other timing races in 101 degree heat.”

Lol! Welcome to the club brother! Been there done that…started same age as your kids in club swimming fast forward to now and both of my kids swim varsity now. Sophomore boy and senior girl so two different seasons not to mention the other two sports they do…..my senior daughter has gone to states for swimming but will not be doing it in college, way too much work and she wants to have fun in college…..My son is a natural swimmer and has been dominating since he was 8 yrs old. However, his sport is football and only swims to keep in shape for football these days and it drives his swim coaches crazy.all of his buddies in swimming graduated this year so I don’t think he is even going to swim this fall. All I can say is to embrace it and support him. He may grow up to love it and succeed or he might go in a different direction. As much as I hated those days of timing in a hot humid pool for hours I can say I honestly miss it. Don’t miss the two hour rides in the middle of winter though!,,
